bulka··on PureOS 10 is Released for all Librem Products
I for one love to get the news blasts about Librem 5 USA shipping while waiting for my Librem 5.
bulka··on The Plague of the Poor
I know someone who died 2 days after getting lunch.
bulka··on Apple and Disney among companies backing groups against US climate bill
Fact: bears eat beets. Bears, beets, "Battlestar Galactica."

bulka··on American parents are sending their kids to 'Russian math' (2017)
Anecdotal, but still: What you have described might have been the case in a handful of top schools, mostly at metropolitan areas. The key difference for the "rest of us" was a high school theacher who would pick top 1-2 pupils after couple of lessons and teach at their pace for the rest of the year. This is my case and the story that was confirmed by dozens of people in my university.
bulka··on Mining firm Rio Tinto sorry for destroying Aboriginal caves (2020)
We are, you know, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15HTd4Um1m4
bulka··on Viewpoints Research Institute concluded its operations at the beginning of 2018
I don't think the physical colocation is the key here.
bulka··on Viewpoints Research Institute concluded its operations at the beginning of 2018
I am pretty sure I saw the demo running in my browser for this, the link was at the end of one of the talks I think. Will post here if I find it
bulka··on Bongo Cat
The last time I checked, we didn't have a whole lot of songs that feature a cat playing the cowbell and therefore I would be doing myself a disservice, and every member of the HN if I didn't perform the hell out of this.
bulka··on Monospace: A JavaScript demo in 1021 bytes, winner of the demo competition
I, for one, liked the "firefox version" of the demo. No way to close, mute or go back. And after a minute someone starts talking to you. Pretty cool.
bulka··on OpenDeck: 1,200 startup slide decks by category – Team, Market, Funding
https://opendeck.app/ I would guess
bulka··on Your Phone Is Your Castle
Sigh. Double checking my email: still the same. Order placed: January 16, 2019. Shipping ETA: mid-to-late November 2020. Off topic, I know, but ghrghghr....
bulka··on Modeling a Wealth Tax
> I'm highly skeptical of the claim that such tax would discourage startup founders.

Discourage starting a company at all? Probably not, but the article does not suggest that. Do you think it might influence where they start it? Looks reasonable to me, at least qualitatively.

bulka··on Symbian Won
"Everyone else did it better" - by some very loose definition of "better" maybe. Author is agreeing that Symbian failed for good reasons at the very end of a very short blog post.
bulka··on Finally, I Closed My LinkedIn
"Finally, after I cofounded a company, I closed my LinkedIn account". It does seem that author never tried to use LinekdIn other than as an online copy of the CV. In my expirience it can be an ok job board replacement for example.
bulka··on Finally, I Closed My LinkedIn
It is a personal account and an unusual move I guess. Try to reverse what you consider to be the cause and the effect here. The argument does not seem to be LinkedIn is usedless in all possible cases, but it has no value for the author that they cannot get otherwise.
bulka··on Finally, I Closed My LinkedIn
I think this is what author is saysing exactly. If you use it passively then there is no value (add?) and then the question is why to have a profile at all? Did not look like a rant to me.
bulka··on Stanford Class on Deep Multi-Task and Meta-Learning
A pretty interesting podcast from Quanta Magazine suggests that it might not be a simple matter of training set size: https://www.quantamagazine.org/where-we-see-shapes-ai-sees-t...
bulka··on Stanford Class on Deep Multi-Task and Meta-Learning
> Simply based on a single learning instance.

Did not get this part. I have limited sample of two kids, but I would say it takes at least a year before humans understand "cupness"

bulka··on Wunderlist to Transition to Microsoft Todo
I was starting to like Microsoft, with Github and all.
bulka··on The Eternal Mainframe (2013)
I get overall sentiment, it is thought provoking. At the same time, one of our clients has on-prem AS/400 with only half of CPUs enabled by IBM. Same client moved payloads between two cloud providers and one on-prem option in last 18 months. Same same, but different.
bulka··on I’ve Picked My Job over My Kids
It is hard to say from the article what kind of relationship author realy has with her kids. She seems to feel guilty, focusing on low moments. For some people the amount of time spent with family counts, others factor in the "intensity" as well.

Her comment about playing the advantage by choosing early date is a bit worring.

bulka··on Deadly stupidity during Aeroflot flight 1492 emergency evacuation
FWIW the first reaction across all russian language sources was exactly the same as on this thread. From what I understand (based on later reporting and comments by two survivors) there were no delays due to people grabbing bags or anything else. The maim issue seem to have been the rear escape door not working. It might be a good idea to wait for official results of the investigation before calling for all sort of action.
bulka··on A New Largest-Known Prime Number
How would you measure amount of work you want to reward with a coin? In both DNS and torrent examples one can influence a supply of work to be done rather easily
