React, react native, node, go, erlang, lockpicking. I prefer bicycles to cars. Live in the EU. Sometimes I miss the older, simpler, HTML days.

bulgr0z··on I Have Decided to Stop Supporting My Family's Non-Linux Devices
It does for the time being, but conflating "android" and AOSP just because of the linux kernel is a bit of a stretch, to me it feels like saying macos is "fine because Darwin is open source"
bulgr0z··on I Have Decided to Stop Supporting My Family's Non-Linux Devices
Posturing about windows bad linux good and admitting to using an android phone for convenience feels like peak nerd gatekeeping.

Europe's socialism (for example) is very different from the Chinese one and does not suppress its citizen's private property rights. The generalization you made about socialism is not accurate outside China.
bulgr0z··on New Wormable Android Malware Spreads by Creating Auto-Replies in WhatsApp
I dont think the number of taps changes anything for the target user of this app; the "free netflix" promise would have my mom calling me to help her follow the screenshot instructions and scam herself.
bulgr0z··on New Wormable Android Malware Spreads by Creating Auto-Replies in WhatsApp
It's been a long time since I have had a look at Android permissions; is there any legitimate usecase for the "BIND_NOTIFICATION_LISTENER_SERVICE" permission used in the app ? It also feels very wrong that a non-system app would be able to interract with the inline reply field of the notification, is this ability tied to the permission itself ?

In any case, this obviously targets the less savvy users and it would probably be better labelled as "phishing" rather than "wormable".

bulgr0z··on Steam's login method is kinda interesting
Don't know if op was indeed talking about ING, but their app was, for a time, very wrong on Android as they seemed to have rewritten it on a Cordova/Phonegap stack which subsequently tanked their rating on the play store. Looks like they have released a new native version since then - at least on the french store.
bulgr0z··on Common mistakes writing React components with hooks
> The first one just feels like a premature optimization

It is in a browser context, but less with React Native which relies way more on refs. It also never hurts (imho) to explain why refs exist and why/where to use them as they can easily be abused (and often are) by devs trying to replicate OOP patterns in React.

bulgr0z··on The end of the Arab world’s oil age is nigh
> No Arab oil producer, save tiny Qatar, can balance its books at the current price, around $40 (see chart).

This is pretty much an open secret for anyone following the price of oil, but how can Aramco still brag about producing for less than $10 [1] a barrel while the kingdom is openly hurting from the current prices ?

bulgr0z··on Discret 11, the French TV encryption of the 80s
> Meuh Meuh TV

That's it ! Thank you so much for the rabbit hole of memories i'm about to go in

bulgr0z··on Discret 11, the French TV encryption of the 80s
This brings back so many memories, in the late nineties my dad brought a PCI TV Tuner card for the family computer and ditched our real TV in order to avoid paying the French TV Tax ("redevance").

It also allowed us to pirate Canal+, decrypting the video stream with a program called Moo TV (if I remember correctly). The audio stream required another program.

It was all a bit janky, frames were frequently dropped, and sometimes you had to tweak a few parameters to get a proper audio stream but the fact that it was (mostly) working was simply amazing to my brother and I.

Good times :)
