buildsjets··on Job application asked for my SAT scores
You cannot use the SAT as a metric to compare different cohorts. SAT scoring has been revised many times over the years. When I took it the highest possible score was 1600. From 2004 through 2016 the highest score was 2400. Now it is back to 1600 again. Plus, both the content and the format of the exam has changed many times over the years. At times, there was no essay requirement, at times the essay was required, and at times it was optional. Hence, each year the examination produces a different distribution/histogram of scores even if you normalize the 1600 vs 2400 difference.

No, Big Chicken == Shaquille O'Neal in the US. His picture is right there on the official Big Chicken Dot Com website and everything.

The best dog treat is always the treat the OTHER dog is eating.

Sometimes, it just happens. People explode. Natural causes.
buildsjets··on Did my old job only exist because of fraud?
Absolutely not. Honor does not pay the mortgage. Whistleblowers have no real protection, despite laws saying they should. If you blow that whistle, you will be retaliated against, guaranteed.

buildsjets··on How we made hit video game Prince of Persia
Prince of Persia was great, but since it came out in 1989 and my family got our Apple //e in 1986, I spent a lot more hours playing the author’s previous rotoscoped platformer from a few years earlier, Karateka.

buildsjets··on Vinyl succumbs to Loudness War: more than just collateral damage (2025)
I keep 3 pressings of Led Zep II out so I can demonstrate the difference to people who don’t believe that there is one. A first-week Robert Ludwig mastered version, a second-week pressing of the Ahmet Ertegun disaster, and 1977 remaster that really sounds just as good as the 1969 RL mix and is a lot cheaper. $20 for a VG+ copy compared to $1300. I am not insane so I did not spend $1300 on a used vinyl record, I found mine for $2 at Goodwill.

Explain. The wiki you linked to specifically states that it is descended from Tibetan script, which is in turn descended from Proto-Sinaitic script.

If you expect a book title to be descriptive, you will be very surprised to learn that Moby Dick is a story about a whale. Or the insatiable ego. Or something else.

Donald Trump has aided and abbeted the rape of children, is actively preventing child rapists from being prosecuted, and has set up a multi-billion dollar legal defense fund to protect his criminal associates.

And what offends you is that someone made a joke to point that out? Pathetic. You should be offended by the criminals, not the clowns.

That is probably why you can see some low scrubby undergrowth in the Google Earth view, but nothing that needs to put down deep roots has yet returned.

Everyone keeps saying that Sprint was a nuke. That is true. However, it also scored some kinetic kills during testing at Kwajalein.

I'm pretty sure that improvements in sensing, computation, actuation, and conventional warhead design over the past 50 years could have produced a reliable hit-to-kill Sprint. And in fact, some research was done on such a vehicle, the McDonnell-Douglas HEDI.

As noted in the Wiki, even with a megawatt class laser, you would need the aircraft to be operating inside the borders of Iran for it to be effective, and we do not have air superiority in Iran to be able to do that with a big slow 747. And to be operationally effective, we would need a fleet of twenty of them.

Reminds me of the Gamma Forest at Brookhaven National Labs. From 1961 thru 1978 they irradiated a section of the pine barrens forest with a cesium-137 source just to see what would happen. It sterilized the soil and hardly anything grows there, almost 50 years later.

I don't think you have an accurate and full understanding of the issues plaguing some areas of American city centers. I can't even recall the last time I saw a person who was drunk in public causing a serious issue after leaving a downtown bar. It just doesn't happen. Besides, you don't need to go to the city center to get drunk, we sell full proof booze in the supermarkets here.

People go to the city center to buy their fentanyl and their P-2P supermeth, shoot up, and zombify the city streets. I see that on a daily basis. If you are not familiar with this phenomenon, go to YouTube and search for Kensington, Philadelphia. Most American cities have similar areas, For example Pike/Pine in Seattle, Tenderloin in SFO, and Skid Row in LA, but the scope of the situation is of a different magnitude in Philly.

buildsjets··on Internet Sleuths Reconstruct Audio of Ups Plane Crash, NTSB Takes Down Dockets
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the independent federal agency that carries out investigations into serious airplane crashes, has blocked access to a public docket system after it discovered that internet sleuths have been attempting to reconstruct the cockpit voice audio from the fatal crash of a UPS aircraft at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport last November.

NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Hommendy described the developments as “deeply troubling” and implored social media companies to remove posts that contained the reconstructed cockpit voice recorder audio.
