budoso··on Show HN: Jev Plays Pokémon Red
I also tried to create a “Jev plays Pokémon” but with minimal additional context outside a move history and what is available in memory from the emulator, so no pathfinder, predetermined game path, etc. I can safely say that this experiment failed however, and Jev was not able to even get to Professor Oak’s lab to get a starter.

Props to OP for getting a working version, but it does not seem that this model is capable enough to play Pokémon at this point in time.

FYI You can get stop this by enabling low power mode.
budoso··on Google Hits 50% IPv6
To be fair if Google stopped supporting it that’d be a pretty good incentive for the ISPs to get in line.
budoso··on Incident Report: May 19, 2026 – GCP Account Suspension
Crazy considering this was their primary argument against the App Store's revenue share model. Not that they're wrong, but you'd think they would at least be consistent.
budoso··on AI Self-preferencing in Algorithmic Hiring: Empirical Evidence and Insights
If that were the case they would select the ones generated by other models at a similar rate to the ones they generated themselves.
budoso··on Composer 2
To be fair these frontier models have been seriously increasing their pricing as of late. Opus 4.6 requests regularly cost over $5 now, with average requests costing ~$1-2. If Composer is benchmarking better than Opus and costs $0.08 per request that's a win for everyone.

I know people like to hate Composer but competition is a benefit to all of us, and I don't doubt Composer will take it's own chunk of the consumer market.

budoso··on Generative AI as Seniority-Biased Technological Change
I wonder how these findings would hold up if the analysis could control for the widespread corporate strategy of replacing domestic junior roles with dedicated offshore teams?

budoso··on Finland to vote against the EU mass surveillance and encryption ban directive
There is still an imbalance of power here. The average person doesn't have the means to parse through the mountains of data produced by the entire world, but states and corporations do.

And even if they did, the average person have even less power to do anything about it.

budoso··on Nomnoml
Personally I think posting to Github is the offering part, posting the tool to HN is definitely an invitation for opinions.

budoso··on Show HN: Flappy Bird and Wordle
One trick is you don't have to use correct words. So once you find a yellow letter you can just repeat it for the next word to get it's location in the word, like 'AAAAA'. Try this for a few attempts and you'll get it (assuming you've played flappy bird a little already)
budoso··on Ugly Gerry – Gerrymandering font
I think it’s two things: 1. What you said, politicians have little incentive to give up power on gerrymandering. 2. The American political system is designed to be adversarial, and adding an “independent” agency with that much power ~feels~ like it invites distrust and corruption.
budoso··on MacBook Pro featuring M2 Pro and M2 Max
I know its not what you meant, but “are you getting A/B tested or something?” is a pretty great software world roast.
budoso··on Epochalypse
I’d guess that it’s because it’s a signed int? So the value can be negative. Probably depends on the library implementation though.
budoso··on Instagram ads Facebook won't show you (2021)
I’d tend to agree. Except for the fact that to create good targeted ads it takes tracking my every click and move. And that this can be sold to parties that I’ve never interacted with nor (actively) consented to having my information.
budoso··on Outdated vs. Complete: In defense of apps that don’t need updates
Agreed but this definitely isn’t in the interest of library maintainers. If they did so it’d mean they are acknowledging all the currently open issues and deciding to do nothing, which would sometimes cause backlash.
budoso··on Prose.sh – A blog platform for hackers
I could see this being really useful in conjunction with iOS shortcuts’ “Run Script Over SSH” and “Get Contents of URL” actions.
budoso··on The state finally letting teens sleep in
The issue with kids is theres often a lot of real problems with how they actually get to school. In the US kids will often wait anywhere from 5-20 minutes for the bus, sometimes in 0° F (-17.8° C) weather. Not to mention that waking up before the sunrise has its own issues with decreasing mood.

budoso··on The Yale Manual for Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy of Depression
Huh, didn't know that active placebos existed. (I'm not in the medical field) Would you go more in depth on this? What would they use as a placebo, if not psilocybin? Couldn't an active placebo affect the patients and skew the results/measured effectiveness of the main drug being studied?
budoso··on Sleep duration is associated with brain structure and cognitive performance
I have this strange experience where I only remember my dreams if I am woken up from sleep unnaturally. When it happens it feels as if my mind knows that in the future I'll be woken up by something. Obviously this isn't how the brain chemistry works, but I can't help but feel this way when it happens.
