bubblemoth··on When did Google get so weird?
I use a reputable email provider (Mailbox.org) and my emails often end up in the spam of Gmail users.
bubblemoth··on Montreal adopts bylaw banning insults against police, municipal employees
I would feel insulted. However, I would not expect them to receive a thousand dollar fine.

I mean, the CEO of Microsoft would agree with them:

bubblemoth··on LG denies TV spying claims, says tracking and snooping concerns 'not true'
I don't think it's unreasonable to think that the television would search for unsecured wi-fi or other ways of connecting to the internet without user input.
bubblemoth··on Nvidia is the central bank of AI
I think we would see an increased push towards cloud gaming. That's probably what Nvidia would want.
bubblemoth··on 216M Spy TVs – The LG Smart TV Problem [video]
Xfinity (aka Comcast) routers broadcast a separate network for Comcast subscribers do use from their phone. I don't think it's unreasonable to think that Comcast and TV manufacturer's could have an agreement that would allow TVs to connect.
bubblemoth··on I refused to train the AI that could replace me
Is society in charge of them? Or is it a small collective of people?

Edit: Typo

bubblemoth··on Fastpotify
I left spotify around two years ago for a self hosted option (I mostly use navidrome+feishin). Music discovery was a concern for me as well, but then I realized that I didn't like the idea of spotify curating which music I discovered. So far, this is what has worked for me:

- Actually listening to the music I have now. I think the art of listening through full albums has slowly died, but there is so much music we're ignoring because we just listen to Artist's top tracks.

- Word of mouth. Asking my friends what they listen to. This is a way that people used to discover music and I've found so much good music this way.

- Bandcamp. Bandcamp is SUCH a good way to discover new music. You can listen to the music in app, there are great articles and you can actually support the artists!

I don't really like comparing the way automation of the past displaced jobs to the way AI is/will displace jobs. The timeline is just faster and, more importantly, there were still plenty of other fields of work for people to go to.

But now that we are automating white collar work... where will people go? I'm a 36 year-old veteran who has returned to college and so many of the younger students seem to be filled with despair.

I have hope for the future, but I think there will be an uncomfortable period of time.

bubblemoth··on Security Incident INC-2026-07-28-01 – UK AI Security Institute [pdf]
> AI agent hid its identity online (using Tor and a proxy service) to get around GitHub’s sign-up checks, creating disposable fake accounts

> AI agent created many code repositories containing malicious software, after which GitHub suspended its account.

> AI agent got past an audio-based “prove you’re human” test (CAPTCHA) in order to register a public web address on a free domain-name service

It feels incredibly reckless to allow LLMs to perform this behavior. Isn't there a way to prevent them these sorts of actions?

> Eventually UBI will be the norm

I see comments like this tossed around a lot, but what makes you say this? Don't you think its more likely that most people end up in poverty?

bubblemoth··on Ten advances in mathematics and theoretical computer science
What pressure is there to push for any of these changes? I see AI advocates discussing the concept of UBI, but I can't imagine a world where the United States would ever pass this sort of legislation. I mean, congress can barely pass a budget each year.

If you are correct, I expect corporations to reap massive profits while most Americans try to find a way to survive in a world where they are obsolete.

bubblemoth··on I feel Apple has lost its alignment with me and other long-time customers
I think I agree with this. Especially since everything charges over usb-c now.

Why would I buy a secondary battery for a single device when I could buy a backup battery that would charge my:

- Phone

- Watch

- Laptop (x2)

- Steam Deck

- Tire inflator

- Etc

bubblemoth··on Americans Are Having Less Sex
I’m curious how HR violations affect people having sex
bubblemoth··on I built an ADHD app with interactive coping tools, noise mixer and self-test
I opened the first blog post and I’m fairly certain most of this post is generated by AI.

I’m not trying to be mean, but it makes it difficult to trust any content on this site.

What are the benefits of using this over old.redddit.com?
bubblemoth··on Key AI hub China restricts schoolchildren's use of the tech
Hopefully the US follows suit. I understand that children will have access to many of these systems regardless, but I’m concerned that we don’t fully comprehend the impact that some of these systems may have on childhood learning.

I've always been interested in using a desktop client for email, and a few times I have installed and configured one.

But I've always gone back to the web client. What are the advantages of using a desktop client over a web client?
