bubblegumcrisis··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
For testing sake, even if you don't believe it - try posting a few comments with this idea (in your own words) - and be very civil.

The AI industry's mass theft of artwork is a crime that should be punished. The perpetrators, those directing this action, should lose everything. They should be left in perpetual debt as payment for their theft from the rest of society. This is just like 2008, when all of the oligarchy controlling the banks pillaged the rest of society, and got off with no real consequence. What we have is a few, probable psychopaths, injuring the masses for their own gain.

Try posting that on a high visibility story relating to the AI industries ethics. See what happens.

You will surely be down-voted - that's fine - [even though, for me, this opinion seems like a no-brainer, is it that crazy?] - (this comment might affect your account? not sure) -- The question, is it "disappeared."

Let me know.

Maybe post two comments about it, maybe in different stories, and ask people that respond with bewilderment to post twice as well.
bubblegumcrisis··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
Btw, I found out a few days ago HN censors comments. Not just down voting, but if you say something they HN finds offensive it disappears.

Interesting - yes, Epstein glasses. Hmm.. Pervert glasses, epstein glasses, pervert glasses, Epstein glasses. Pervstein glasses? <looks at coffee>, <looks outside>, <wonders why this world is so dumb>, <wonders when the revolution will come>

This really explains a lot. Whenever I see all the fan boys for Waymo and Apple (strangely people on this board like apple-vendor-lock-in) - and I think to myself, "who are these people, where is the 'rage against the machine' that typified the software industry pre-facebook"

So strange.

I had this weird epiphany this year - you know the Jan 6th - you know how the republicans refused to impeach Trump. I just couldn't wrap my head around the fact they would let someone potentially trying to kill them off the hook.

And then it dawned on me - they were in on it. If they were in on it, everything makes perfect sense. It's the simplest solution.

But it was such a leap for me.

All of the "obviously paid for bot comments" on this site. I always thought - they just slip through - but actually, the simplest solution is that this site is propagating a narrative.

So weird. And so gross. Where did the idealism of the tech industry go? "Don't be evil," they said.

bubblegumcrisis··on Show HN: Mini-AGI – Dynamic continual learning model trained on 8GB VRAM
How do you tell which comments were flagged?
bubblegumcrisis··on Show HN: Mini-AGI – Dynamic continual learning model trained on 8GB VRAM
There are three.

The first starts with: Thanks for your response. The second starts with: Hey, do me a favor And the third starts with: I had no idea HN censors

If you can see all three - then you can also see the censorship by starting a private browser and looking at this story.

There will only be the second and the third.

I've tested in private sessions on firefox and safari and through a few different ip proxies.

I'm going to do some testing in other stories/comments to see whether they detect words, or general sentiment. And I'll get some statistics on if this is predictable censorship, a one time deal, or whether I just hit a race condition in their code somewhere.

bubblegumcrisis··on Show HN: Mini-AGI – Dynamic continual learning model trained on 8GB VRAM
I had no idea HN censors comments. As in they don't exist at all. This explains a lot actually. I mean, they censored for ideas, not bad language. I didn't write anything accusatory or mean towards you, or towards anyone in particular - just purely for the ideas one of my comments to you doesn't exist. So weird.
bubblegumcrisis··on Show HN: Mini-AGI – Dynamic continual learning model trained on 8GB VRAM
Hey, do me a favor - can you reply to this and say, just "yes" if you can see it. If you can see my other reply, could you say "yes 2" - thanks
bubblegumcrisis··on Show HN: Mini-AGI – Dynamic continual learning model trained on 8GB VRAM
Thanks for your response.

Do you think if you had worked on this for years (I understand that this is hypothetical), would you feel about the same?

I find it strange - I mean, in the past it would be: you work on something, you give it away for free, people use it, and probably give code back. Now, it's: you work on something, you give it away for free, an agent reads it and clones it, you never get anything.

30 something years ago, I was an intern in meeting at a software company, and some guy had put some code on the internet that did this very specific thing they wanted - something to do with instrumenting code - they blatantly stole it. But they at least felt bad, and some people were pretty annoyed, that guy who did the stealing, I think he was eventually fired.

Now, companies can be one removed, "we didn't steal, we transmogrified." Or, "Hey claude, could you take this idea and implement it to run our hardware."

I feel like, the "original sin", the "fruit of the poisonous tree" has to be reconciled.

The people directly involved in the decision to steal with abandon - they should lose everything - maybe their creation might live on, but they personally should go to infinite debt.

It's like the 2008 financial crisis - the oligarchs on the tops of those banks should have been destroyed.

Oh well, sigh.

Very interesting - I have a tangential question.

What motivated you decide to release this. OpenAI or Anthropic will just hoover it up, maybe scale it up and use it if they are interested.

You probably won't know if they do, and the chance they will give you something back is near zero. Why did you release rather than try to scale and build yourself?

(I've been working on some thing, not similar, but not dissimilar in goal - and I just can't get over the fact that tech will steal without giving back)

bubblegumcrisis··on Why I didn’t sign the Fields medallists’ letter
Here's a take on this. What if OpenAI is like Uber.

Uber comes in, destroys competition using venture capital, promises a utopia for drivers and riders - then - when the time is right, they use the hollowed landscape to charge more and control the market.

Maybe, it's not so smart to trust tech psychopaths when they say everything will "be better when we take over."

bubblegumcrisis··on Apple's Siri AI Can Be Swapped Out for Claude, ChatGPT, Code Shows
What about: just not Siri at all. What about that. What about MrSunshine. I would rather have my own bot that I code. But no, vendor lock in.
bubblegumcrisis··on A misalignment of AI in mathematics
It is interesting isn't it.

You asked for a painting. A robot made the painting. You looked at it and said, "well, I guess it's good. Should I put it online or something? Dunno. Hey Fred, what do you think of this?"

Meanwhile, your next door neighbor spends their entire life developing their understanding of life through art. They "understand" (maybe not in a way they can articulate) art. You go next door, you look at their painting and say, "well I guess it's good." But you also understand that your neighbor is just like you, and maybe you are a painter in another way.

I find it strange that, people can't see that, we don't need to solve hunger and poverty and work balance, and etc, by a round-about make-super-intelligent-AI. We could just solve it. It's pretty obvious how to, as well.

We can all be painters, if we put restrictions on the psychopaths.

bubblegumcrisis··on Is there a way to do GPL anymore?
I don't mind an a-hole using the research. I wouldn't even mind if someone used it without attribution.

It's that I want to be given back things they do as well. I want them to contribute back.

This project does something, and it's pretty neat. If someone takes the project and has another clever idea on what to do next, I want to see it. I want them to reciprocate.

Dunno- maybe this doesn't make sense.

bubblegumcrisis··on Is there a way to do GPL anymore?
It's slightly different. Obviously- else there would never have been GPL to begin with- I suppose.

I wouldn't mind if people used the code, etc. It's that I want to be given back. That's the trade off. Not paid, free code, must give back. You piggyback and find this other thing, then I want to see it too.

bubblegumcrisis··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
Sigh..

Is there anything better now though?

All I see from AI, is an amplification of the enshittification of the internet.

And people being even more alone.

bubblegumcrisis··on The Amazon tax
Huh.. That is an interesting idea. I like it.

You have a company, it is worth below X dollars? You do what you want. Above X dollars, now you get government minder for every decision.

All of the "buying to shutdown competitors"- not possible - you don't have enough cash! Well I mean, it would be possible, but it would also carry huge risk. (As you don't have infinite cash reserves)

Keep your companies small and agile, stay focused on your primary initiative, distribute profits to your employees, build infrastructure, contribute back --- I like this.

bubblegumcrisis··on Apple announces changes for apps in the European Union
Yes- thanks for explaining vendor lock-in to me.
bubblegumcrisis··on OpenRouter is joining Stripe
Also it's name has "open" in it. Which means you can do what you want with it, and it's all open source!

Just the other day, I tried to have openrouter route to my local ollama, and it refused. Apparently I have to pay for this privilege. How wonderful.

Open open (op)en. Open open (op)en. Clo-o-o-ooooo-sed.. (sing with Wagner flight of the V)

bubblegumcrisis··on Apple announces changes for apps in the European Union
The "alternative marketplace" should be replaced with "no marketplace." How do people accept this "alternative marketplace" idea? This is obviously a way to increase friction in order to maintain dominance - and the solution is obvious - no marketplace at all.
bubblegumcrisis··on Apple announces changes for apps in the European Union
Imagine if Apple and Google and etc, didn't vendor lock-in.

Imagine we could run what we wanted. Imagine that we could use whatever payment system we wanted.

Imagine if apple wanted you to use Apple app X, it would need to compete and make it amazing, not just lock you in. Same with payment systems.

Imagine if you could replace the battery of your old phone, and use it for as long as you wished. Without Apple forcing upgrades through their usual tactics.

Apple tells me that it won't even accept applications that target pre-13 soon. And then pre-15 next year.

I hate them.

The fact that this is our current state of tech, tells me that all of the politicians are bought, and that the tech sector has rotten.

bubblegumcrisis··on Apple announces changes for apps in the European Union
Why can't we just use our computers the way we want to use our computers? It is so dumb that vendor lock-in even exists, and I'm sick of it.

bubblegumcrisis··on Show HN: 1667, a terminal UI for writing fiction with language models
The next generation is so f*cked. It's going to be far worse than I imagined before.

We are going to have kids who, instead of imagining their own fantasy lands, are given them by AI. Of course the AI will be far superior to a 6 year old- how will they be able to resist the AI drip, when even adults can't.

A generation growing up without imagining. So depressing.

I guess we have a few years before it starts. Or maybe it already has.

Wow.

I hope this doesn't happen. I hope the kids are smarter than us.

bubblegumcrisis··on Show HN: 1667, a terminal UI for writing fiction with language models
Here's a question. Tangential I know. "Digression!"

If you had a kid, let's say 6 years old, and they had a "super hero" they wrote stories about.

What would it mean, if you took away their creative process and replaced it with this.

Does that child have a lesser "life-experience?" Or not?

What about you?

bubblegumcrisis··on Show HN: 1667, a terminal UI for writing fiction with language models
This is so depressing for me. The drip will be everywhere.
bubblegumcrisis··on As AI eats the web, the internet’s collective memory is disappearing
"don't we all think that ideas are cheap"

No. We don't. Original good ideas are exceedingly rare.

Also, what we really have learned, is that the typical techie isn't interested in pureness of thought and originality, exploration of the beauty of the unknown, but rather making a quick buck.. A good idea will be taken and used without credit.

We'll see whether or not LLMs have original ideas soon I guess. I wonder.

bubblegumcrisis··on AI is a bubble, just like dot-com
Bot farms, AI stories, AI comments on AI.

Waymo had a story on this site not long ago. All of the comments were mostly positive - but in real life, no real life human I know wants Waymo. None. And anyone who bikes is vigorously against it.

So- who is the audience for all of this? Reading this AI slop article - I just feel as if a moment of my life was wasted. And not wasted by poor writing, but by meaningless synth.

I hope we have the de-slop button soon. Ad-block -> Slop-block. I would rather read bad writing with meaning, than meaningless organized prose.
