bsagdiyev··on Tesla goes down across Europe leaving some drivers unable to charge cars
That was the logic we used, bought an Explorer ST instead of a BMW since they've shown the desire to charge to unlock stuff already in the car. I'm sure Ford will do it at some point if it takes off but so far they haven't. Now the connected features on the car I'm not a huge fan of but they're not limiting thankfully.
bsagdiyev··on Open RuneScape Classic
Just remembered, a private server written/modified by a buddy of mine. https://github.com/gen0cide/firescape
bsagdiyev··on Samsung is insanely thin skinned; deletes 90% of questions from their own AMA
Currently it's the washing machine that just ... doesn't work occasionally. Power is good to it, confirmed with an electrician but it won't turn on. Give it a bit and it works. Prior it was phones having software issues but that was more than a few years ago at this point so I don't remember specifics.
bsagdiyev··on Open RuneScape Classic
fwiw, this appears to be a fork of a now missing repo, and I cannot speak to the cleanliness of the files but it's a decent sized dump of old bots and sources including AutoRune.

bsagdiyev··on Samsung is insanely thin skinned; deletes 90% of questions from their own AMA
That's an anecdote. I've also had shitty experiences with Samsung products. Maybe it's a mixed bag but I hear more bad than good without going out and looking for it.
bsagdiyev··on An obituary for the man who saved North Carolina from Nuclear Disaster
Wow that happened fairly close by. Just outside Smithfield. We tend to just drive through briefly (the county) on our way to I-40 before heading off to the coast to visit my Dad.
bsagdiyev··on Play Counter Strike 1.6, with full multiplayer, in the browser
They've also got an updated (reverse engineered?) HLDS DLL too. reHLDS I believe is what it's called. Been meaning to check what benefits/cons it brings for my own server.

bsagdiyev··on DataDog asked OpenTelemetry contributor to kill pull request
Under Blake, so that side of the floor!
bsagdiyev··on DataDog asked OpenTelemetry contributor to kill pull request
Oh wow... I worked with Boostchicken at Sony. He's not at DataDog afaik.
bsagdiyev··on My husband was right about DVDs
I use my old GTX1060 for transcoding and it does a decent job. Upload speed could be another factor, as well as pointed out elsewhere making sure there is direct internet access to the Plex server so it doesn't use a middle server via Plex themselves.
bsagdiyev··on My husband was right about DVDs
I've been doing this for 5+ years at this point. Your post reminds me that I need to finally, at some point, just build a new home server. This E3-1230v1 on DDR3 is getting a little old.
bsagdiyev··on In 2022, the IRS Went After the Poorest Taxpayers
Agreed. I messed up filing last year due to not understanding how RSUs worked when I eventually sold some. They sent me a nice letter, told me what I owed and that was that. Paid it off and haven't heard anything since.
bsagdiyev··on Investors conclude that Tesla is a carmaker, not a tech firm
It's sketchy at best. Our newest car does emergency braking and that's it. And it's good at it, only engaging when there is a situation it feels (and is correct) about me not braking in time or hard enough. I shouldn't have to worry about it failing.
bsagdiyev··on Investors conclude that Tesla is a carmaker, not a tech firm
We don't talk about Bruno.
bsagdiyev··on Investors conclude that Tesla is a carmaker, not a tech firm
Yeah it's ugly as shit. Their build quality didn't help any of that either.
bsagdiyev··on Investors conclude that Tesla is a carmaker, not a tech firm
That's the point of assistance, it shouldn't need double checking by a human every time. It should just work.
bsagdiyev··on NTSC encoding/decoding in C89 using only integers and fixed point math
Wow thanks for mentioning that. I was hugely in to RuneScape back in the early 2000s, but stopped around RS2. I still run a classic server from time to time so I can relive that. Kings Crooks looks really cool will definitely check that out.
bsagdiyev··on Ask HN: Anyone using proprietary Unix at work?
Dated info (2001/2002?) but there was Solaris use at the NSA around that time too. Seems like the military and associated organs like to use it.
bsagdiyev··on Tesla FSD data is getting worse, according to beta tester self-reports
People may not use the term "panel gap" but "hey that Tesla looks like it has big gaps between the fender and door". Who the fuck cares what forums think when normal everyday people notice it too and may not know the word?
bsagdiyev··on Tesla FSD data is getting worse, according to beta tester self-reports
I care very much about panel gaps. I can afford a Tesla won't risk buying it because that points to shitty QA.
bsagdiyev··on As Carvana crashes, used car dealers, not buyers, stand to win big
Not sure why you were downvoted. They got their Raleigh (Wake County) license revoked for a while for selling cars with Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia titles IN North Carolina. Cars weren't passing basic safety inspection and sometimes they didn't even provide the title after months!

Transferring an out of state title in NC hits you with a road tax up to a defined upper limit ($400 I believe is the absolute highest) based on car value and state you transfer from, so they likely did this to avoid paying that sales tax themselves before selling the car. It's shady as hell.

bsagdiyev··on Tesla calls self-driving technology 'failure,' not fraud
Rain fade affects GPS does it not? Is the car relying on inertial navigation for a period? This rain is not something a camera and iffy GPS signal can keep you on the road. The intensity and amount of rain would definitely not let a camera see.

Quick add: this was at 12PM (noon) on a countryish road. City lights had nothing to do here.

bsagdiyev··on Tesla calls self-driving technology 'failure,' not fraud
Not hurricane season at the time. There's a clearly defined season for that weather. This is just a normal thunderstorm.
bsagdiyev··on Gender Inequities in Household Labor Predict Lower Sexual Desire in Women
Agreed, at some point it's just too much following a three year old around and cleaning up. We just tidy up his play room once a week and try to instill a bit of "keep it tidy" in him with some success.
bsagdiyev··on Just use Postgres for everything
I use Patroni behind HAProxy setup to automatically point to the new active host in the case of a failover. It's not a huge scale setup though so I'm sure there will be better ways or other input on this.
bsagdiyev··on Tesla calls self-driving technology 'failure,' not fraud
The rain can be no joke here. I've had to stop driving and pull over for the first time in my life after moving to NC. The rain was too heavy to see more than 10 feet or so.
bsagdiyev··on AT&T Long Lines – A Forgotten System (2018)
There's one of these in the Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego. Was always fascinated by it when we went there for dinner or whatever. Haven't seen any in NC but there's a few locations on the map. Need to make a trip I think.
bsagdiyev··on Google combines Maps and Waze teams in restructuring move
I've used Waze since first getting a smart phone and continue using it. It got us from California to North Carolina, and does a great job when driving up north or down to Florida. Hopefully this doesn't get affected by this change. I prefer it over Apple Maps or Google Maps.
bsagdiyev··on Streetlights Are Turning Purple
They're around Raleigh, I'm up in Bryson City right now and see a few around here, as well as when I was in Florida for thanksgiving. From my understanding the power company, Duke, just got a batch that ended up having issues causing them to turn purple. I like them but I can see why people don't.
