bsagdiyev··on Evacuations under way near Kherson after destruction of dam prompts flooding
How does this counter the posts of Russian soldiers claiming to have mined the dam back in December [1] as well as the US Government claiming to have intelligence that says otherwise[2]? It would be mighty stupid of Ukraine to destroy their agricultural output when they appear to be making combat gains... honestly just sound like weapons grade garbage.

bsagdiyev··on A confession exposes India’s hacking industry
A good chunk of the more interesting code I've seen around is usually attributed to someone from Russia or the Eastern Bloc. Doesn't seem weird to me at all. It isn't Siberia in a literal sense but I think this was the point trying to be made.
bsagdiyev··on Is there a wider internet outage today?
We had what seemed like full connectivity loss for about 5 minutes this morning. Came back as quick as it went, Spectrum fiber outside Raleigh, NC.
bsagdiyev··on The NixOS Foundation’s Call to Action: S3 Costs Require Community Support
If the NixOS team cannot handle this then I question their capabilities. This is cake work.
bsagdiyev··on The NixOS Foundation’s Call to Action: S3 Costs Require Community Support
Seriously, there is a large amount of comments of people who seem terrified of this or throw out "but but updates and failing hardware". We run multi PB storage on prem at work and it's just fine. Not some massive team running it.
bsagdiyev··on Maryland License Plates Now Inadvertently Advertising Filipino Online Casino
Not enough I'm sure but more than zero. Out of the $30 you pay for the plate it looks like $20 goes to the fund for that cause. So it's not a small amount.
bsagdiyev··on Maryland License Plates Now Inadvertently Advertising Filipino Online Casino
Yeah it isn't that hard. File it as lost/stolen and get a replacement. When I sold my last car I forgot to turn in my NC amateur radio plate with my callsign. I guess they recycle them. When I went to finally do it the lady at the license plate office just marked it lost/stolen and let me keep it.
bsagdiyev··on Maryland License Plates Now Inadvertently Advertising Filipino Online Casino
Eh, I like my choice of plate design here in NC.

Funds from these support the cause on the plate typically.

bsagdiyev··on Drug shortages have worsened and may only increase in the future, experts say
Straterra is an option but I believe works like an anti-depressant. My experience wasn't great with it, but who knows? If it works for you that's great!
bsagdiyev··on Parts for stolen Hyundais and Kias are so scarce the cars are being totaled
Never understood the states with no safety inspection at the least. NC does both, emissions depend on county, and I don't see as many cars on the road that make me nervous to be around.
bsagdiyev··on New York to ban natural gas, including stoves, in new buildings
Cool, let me tell my grandparents who are on a fixed income that they need to replace their heating and stovetop because they're dirty polluters and it's totally only going to cost a month or two of their after necessities money to do just their stove top!
bsagdiyev··on 1990 Impact Electric Drag Race [video]
With a neck snapping 140hp... this is not even a halfway decent comparison car.
bsagdiyev··on Quebec man sentenced to prison for creating AI-generated child pornography
The very first sentence of the article answers that question I would hope.
bsagdiyev··on Show HN: Killport – CLI tool to kill processes running on a specified port
"netstat -anp | grep $PORT" is tedious?
bsagdiyev··on Toyota plug-in hybrids to offer 124-mile electric-only range
There are also, depending on the state, still gas stations that sell ethanol free fuel. The station up the street from me sells it but it is about 20 to 30 cents per gallon more expensive.
bsagdiyev··on One of the world’s largest investment banks: ‘Greedflation’ has gone too far
Yep, $2 for Food Lion brand shredded wheat or $5 for name brand shredded wheat. Not only that but the name brand has had an issue lately with having a lot of burnt tasting pieces. It's only $3 difference but the different in quality (not burnt vs burnt) is crazy.
bsagdiyev··on Apple and global suppliers expand renewable energy to 13.7 gigawatts
Those are four states. We're currently without wind and have clouds in Pennsylvania where I'm visiting family, how do you propose we generate enough electricity and cover this coming weekend where there will be rain and clouds.
bsagdiyev··on Ofcom proposes to refer UK cloud market for investigation
Or the spend on AWS got out of control and they needed to save money. Looking at you Sony Interactive Entertainment...
bsagdiyev··on UK airport scraps 100ml liquid rule with new scanners
Depends maybe on the airport but flying out of San Diego, they pulled a bag of breast milk from my girlfriends bag and tested the liquid inside. They allowed the larger size through but still did scrutinize the actual liquid.
bsagdiyev··on Xanax and Adderall Access Is Being Blocked by Secret Drug Limits
Won't find that opinion from me. I take Adderall after having been denied it (by my mom) as a teenager and it basically turned my life around. If people have surgery and need opiates, as long as it's controlled and monitored like both meds should be then have at it. I don't want anyone to suffer.
bsagdiyev··on YunoHost – Operating system aiming to simplify server administration
I absolutely do not. I see AWS outages and issues with provisioning all the time at work. Last time my home server went down was because the power went out and we don't have a generator.
bsagdiyev··on The Corruption of California
Doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I see cars on the road in CA that somehow pass emissions but are in extraordinarily bad mechanical shape since there is no safety inspections. As long as the air is clean I guess.

Since I'm no longer in CA I will readily admit that I've had more than one sideways smog done. Their rules on things like an intake needing a CARB EO is ridiculous. This is the same state that said the Elantra N has too loud exhaust, stock, even though it meets federal limits. Their BAR inspector ran it in "sport" mode instead of "normal" which is against their policy.

bsagdiyev··on Nearly 40% of software engineers will only work remotely
Will second this. I typically work later in to the day/night because our son is loud during the day and it can be hard to focus so I shift my hours.
bsagdiyev··on 90k Miles on My Tesla Model 3 – Maintenance Costs Higher Than Expected
It seems like a weird coping or logic mechanism? I don't get it. I'm not replacing the motor every 10k in my car. And the recent engine rebuild on my "race" car didn't even come near that cost using definitely more expensive aftermarket parts.
bsagdiyev··on 90k Miles on My Tesla Model 3 – Maintenance Costs Higher Than Expected
Where? At 50k miles our last car had less than $2k in maintenance done and still was covered under warranty. We replaced one set of tires in that cost as well. I would say had we kept it to 90k miles we would still be less than or at 2k total.
bsagdiyev··on Tell HN: Gitlab Premium pricing increases incoming $19 to $29
Yes -- I like it enough that I still use my personal 10 user license at home for work that I do outside of working hours.
bsagdiyev··on You can watch Pluto TV in VLC, and the MPA considers this piracy
When you block ads network wide their apps play a generic PlutoTV logo loop while they should be on. Oddly my son seems to like the visuals and music on those so that's a nice unintentional side effect of blocking ads.
bsagdiyev··on After defending false data, Comcast admits another FCC broadband map mistake
FYI with Spectrum fiber make sure you're getting 500mbit upload. I had to fight them to get that fixed since my address still showed up as copper and was provisioned as such (1000/30 or whatever it is)
bsagdiyev··on Gigapresses – the die casts reshaping car manufacturing
Yep, the N54 out of my 335i had timing chains. Replacing that during the engine build wasn't fun, but it was still solid at 130k.
bsagdiyev··on Cut the Cutesy Errors
Informative errors help users help you track down the error. "OOPSIE WOOPSIE!! Uwu We made a fucky wucky!! A wittle fucko boingo! The code monkeys at our headquarters are working VEWY HAWD to fix this!"[0] really isn't helpful as an error message.
