This causes yet another rich v poor divide. Poor people may not even be able to pay a few pennies to send an email (perhaps at a downturn when they need to reach out). Hopefully they have a phone, but at least the library might have free computer use for your currently free email.
Oh I understand that. I just meant the recent mass buys that have been happening.
(this may just be a feeling based on my news readings and not a reflection of reality)
Disagreed. We have corpoeations/Private Equity Firms buying up property to squeeze out as much money possible from these places. Creating an artificial inflation of housing costs and making a UBI look untenable. If the property rush wasn't happening we wouldn't see this. A decent UBI would adjust with the cost of living. Including handling a price surge like this.
Edit to add: More than just a UBI would be needed for the surges probably. Perhaps a more functional Congress would be needed too, at this point.
"But actually, he thought as he re-adjusted the Ministry of Plenty's figures, it was not even forgery. It was merely the substitution of one piece of nonsense for another."
I really appreciate your comment. Of that list, Vivaldi seemed like the best option for me (even If proprietary...), but on mobile I noticed page loading lag that happened with Firefox on Android in the early days. So I'm still searching... :/
I read elsewhere in these comments that Adobe keeps Flash alive in China. If this is true and Adobe doesn't want China to take over Flash (Re: China & ARM), they won't open source it and they'll keep clones down/DMCA requests going to keep business with China. Just my 2¢.
Does a serious alternative to Firefox exist? I mean an alternative that is what Firefox purports to be? I'm ready to make the switch. Been with Mozilla since Pheonix, but the user hostility has become too much.
Probably an unpopular opinion: Never. Mozilla is a hollowed out shell, destroyed by monetary needs. Clearly, today's Firefox, let alone Mozilla, is no longer a bastion of the free web, but an example of how late stage capitalism can destroy such wonderful projects.
I loved Firefox and I still believe it is the best bastion for a free web, though that view has been slowly fading. Years and years of user hostile moves (drastic UI changes, breaking am entire generation of addons) have really hurt the brand IMHO. And this PR just feels hollow.
Thanks! Definitely Poe's law. They show what seem like awards with point values and include a jet with a point value. The jet landing at school seems like a joke, but not the jet itself, IMHO. Sure it's an outlandish prize, but they gave it a point value along with others. Maybe the way the case was brought, it fell apart, but that's gotta be false advertizing.
"Obvious to any reasonable person" is so vague. What happens when Poe's law is reached? Half the people will scream obvious while the other half scream obviously not! Also, the reasonable person would have to be raised and steeped in the culture. why would someone from another country, who doesn't understand US norms, be considered unreasonable? Pepsi is a large corporation that has been in posetion of USSR military gear (vague because I don't exactly remember what atm). Why wouldn't they be able to give a jet away? They are big enough, have possessed similar items, and run contests all the time. Seems legit to me (but I also haven't seen the ad).
Amazon/Walmart are capable of raising wages to add more/retain employees. Other smaller business aren't able to adjust as quickly, thus the big box stores take on way more workers. If everyone raised wages at the same time (a la minimum wage increase or otherwise), then Amazon nor Walmart would look like that much of a better place to work, eliminating the "boo they're using their huge scale to further crush their competitors."
True, but really, it's not that much work. News media needs to get back to true journalism. (Sorry to soapbox, I just hate the state of "news" these days)
Is it though? I'd assume that too, but we don't really know, do we? I mean to ask, what have Microsoft stated that leads you to believe this? (Maybe there's a press release I missed?)
Probably in person it would be a bit different. I have a feeling this is a quickly whipped up example. Contrived and silly, sure, but the point is made.
"Read this before getting started." I enjoyed the jab at Pooh.
I'm also looking forward to digging into this. It looks really neat and I have been interested in baremetal programming recently. Hopefully this coming weekend will be free enough to indulge!
