of course https://status.cloud.google.com/ is all green
brown9-2··on Tell HN: We have a responsibility to speak out against blockchain technologies
didn’t Solana have an outage this weekend?
brown9-2··on Accepted and ghosted: interviewing for a leadership position at Stripe
This makes no sense. A company like Stripe has in-house recruiters.

An external recruiter would never tell a candidate they referred they were hired without hearing it from the company first - as they’d be burned too many times by setting people up for disappointment, and it would destroy their reputation with the employer.

brown9-2··on Crypto enthusiasts want to buy an NBA team, after not purchasing US Constitution
It will probably cost over $1 billion to buy a team, seems like you should need to raise more than 0.4% of the amount before having your project written about in the media as credible.
brown9-2··on Error 404 (Not Found)
AWS typically has the same issue
brown9-2··on Jony Ive’s first major design since leaving Apple
I bet those groups pay well though
brown9-2··on Y Combinator company “skip the interview” reaches top ten of r/recruitinghell
if you want to be free to try radical ideas, you should also be open to the feedback when they’re terrible and foolish ideas
brown9-2··on Faster Maven Builds
I think it’s more of the fault of needing to invoke a number of plugins bound to different cycles, rather than the compiler deciding if it needs to recompile files or not. I don’t believe Maven’s domain model has any concept of incrementalism or caching - only the compiler does.
brown9-2··on gRPC for Microservices Communication
how do you test a HTTP/REST microservice?
brown9-2··on gRPC for Microservices Communication
Why would it lead to any tighter of a coupling that other styles of APIs?
brown9-2··on Ask HN: Are you also getting extremely obvious spam bypassing Gmail's filters?
Yes, very obvious bitcoin scams with html attachments that try to execute script to redirect you to another webpage
brown9-2··on Video of Tesla FSD almost hitting pedestrian receives DMCA takedown
People aren’t bothered by how close the car came to the pedestrians - it’s the fact that the autopilot was programmed to go in a straight line and at an intersection decided to steer into a crosswalk.

Not to mention the fact that it seems entirely legal for a company like Tesla to test such dangerous functionality on public streets with other drivers and pedestrians, with zero permission or regulation.

brown9-2··on Video of Tesla FSD almost hitting pedestrian receives DMCA takedown
The tweet that went viral was a clip of a video posted by a Youtube channel owned by someone else. Seems pretty obvious the copyright owner who would make a claim against the tweet was the Youtube channel who owned the video.
brown9-2··on How Docker broke in half
a great piece of trivia related to this point is that the original k8s developers tried to convince Docker to adopt the pod concept:

brown9-2··on The Coronavirus Is Here Forever
> But if vaccinated people are also spreading it

It is not a binary 0 or 1 as far as if vaccinated people will spread the infection if they are infected. The vaccine lowers the chances, so the more people we can get vaccinated, the lower the chances can get.

brown9-2··on The Coronavirus Is Here Forever
If you want to talk about “real risk” then I think it’s only fair to ask you to define what that acceptable risk level is.
brown9-2··on Google employees who work from home could lose money
No, the article makes it pretty clear that it’s a cost of living adjustment
brown9-2··on Google employees who work from home could lose money
Will they adjust Urs Holzle’s compensation for working from New Zealand?
brown9-2··on NYC to mandate proof of vaccination for many indoor settings
Can you cite any scientists saying “hold on, we don’t approve of this yet”?
brown9-2··on NYC to mandate proof of vaccination for many indoor settings
> Isn't it kind of alarming to hear a government say, hey, our own scientists haven't approved this, but we want to inject it into your body anyway?

This isn’t what is happening - the scientists are encouraging you to get the vaccine too.

Full approval requires a lengthy amount of time because usually things are being tested outside of a crisis.

I think a lot of comments are missing that this is a public health crisis which has killed nearly 700,000 Americans. A crisis calls for rapid action.

brown9-2··on “Cat Person” and Me
Can you elaborate on the “zeitgeist’s value system”? You keep accusing people of doing a thing and then not really defining that thing.
brown9-2··on “Cat Person” and Me
It’s not new for writers to be inspired by real-life events or for stories to have broader messages or purposes. Calling this contemporary seems naive, as a part of this thing lately where people act as if for thousands of years we never criticized each other or did anything political until now.

But what do you think is the ideological narrative Cat Person aims to fit?

brown9-2··on Senior Google exec opposes remote work, moves to New Zealand to work remotely
“or wouldn't be assigned to an office” seems to be doing a lot here to obscure the true meaning
brown9-2··on GitHub Copilot
All of the same can be said for copy-and-pasting code you find in a tutorial in Google search results or in a Stack Overflow answer. This just seems to be automating that process even further.
brown9-2··on Peter Thiel turned a Roth IRA into a $5B tax-free piggy bank
Seems pretty clear that he sold himself shares below fair value to make the contributions legal
brown9-2··on Internal Amazon documents shed light on how company pressures out office workers
Over the past 9 months though the stock has been flat, so this willingness to suffer for rewards will hit a brick wall soon
brown9-2··on Hire-to-fire at Amazon India?
Glassdoor is not reliable
brown9-2··on The Document Culture of Amazon
I think this comment comes from a place of having plenty of unscheduled time before the meeting, but the format is really oriented around solving things for people with no unscheduled time.

What experts are being hidden?
brown9-2··on DOJ seizes $2.3M in cryptocurrency paid to the ransomware extortionists Darkside
Are you saying the government didn’t actually recover the money that they claim to have recovered?
