brianwawok··on How Fast is Python 3.15?
So Claude can convert python code bases to rust or golang, and give you an easy 10x speed boost. Much better than waiting for Python performance to improve
brianwawok··on Your Big Mac might cost more if McDonald's AI thinks people nearby can afford it
Getting AI boost though. Like watch traffic patterns and sporting events, crank it as much as they can!

Please ban all on demand pricing government. Limit it to 1 price a day or something

brianwawok··on Nvidia wants to put a watchdog chip next to every AI agent
Ok so stop all AI in the US? All AI now comes from China and anyplace in Europe that decides to give it a try? How’s the US economy look in 20 years?
brianwawok··on Ask HN: Is Opus 5.5 another step change?
Feels like a faster and cheaper fable, which yes is a big jump.
brianwawok··on Tell HN: OpenAI $500 ProMax plan listed in API
A lot depends on how good open source models do. I know I can buy a 20k rig or whatever to get model X. If someone wants to charge me 3k a month to write code I just buy the hardware.
brianwawok··on Plan mode is dead
What? Nothing to do with that
brianwawok··on Grok 4.7
Maybe mid priced is a better term for it lol.
brianwawok··on Grok 4.7
5T I believe is the guess, though not sure its public anywhere.
brianwawok··on Bill Gates tries to install MovieMaker (2003)
Beats me but somehow we do!

Every day I drop 1k lines of Python code and replace with go. Will be fully go soon!

brianwawok··on Bill Gates tries to install MovieMaker (2003)
The difference in complexity between my go and my Python docker image is actually hilarious. 100s of files and package managers and npm and whatever else.. vs 1 file.
brianwawok··on Windows 11's "special" developer edition looks like another marketing misfire
Ditto. Nothing I want to play doesn’t work on Linux / bazzite.
brianwawok··on Stripe acquires Clerky
In fact Atlas and their push to be a C-Corp is a bad play for us small timers
brianwawok··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
History has shown me people value convenience and cheapness and maybe safety. Privacy is far down the list for 99% of the world
brianwawok··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
The memory bandwidth and size seems to be there, but what is the tokens per sec on like a qwen model? And you can basically do 3x opus 4.5 on the $100 a month claude plan. Your payback will be near infinity years after electricity.
brianwawok··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra for a big leap in performance and AI compute
At the price points they are hitting, can’t afford over 32 GB on the cheaper model.

256 memory gets you to like 11k. So like 15-20k.

brianwawok··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra for a big leap in performance and AI compute
The storage is pretty silly. Bring that down and the max isn’t nearly as bad, more like 12k
brianwawok··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
But is it? If it’s cheap enough latency doesn’t matter. Unlike say cloud gaming, where latency does matter. I’ll take my games local and my text bots cloud
brianwawok··on Babies born under sugar rationing grew into adults with lower cancer risk
I think it’s gut biome problems. So you just trade one problem for another, while tasting bad? Pass.
brianwawok··on Nine PBS sues Iron Mountain over blocked access to archival data
Statistically a fire is more likely to burn your 1 copy than the data center I bet. Ideally you have both, that survives almost anything outside thermonuclear war
brianwawok··on The Tokenpocalypse Is Here: Companies Are Scrambling to Stop Spending on AI
Non techies don’t get that though. They will use opus to translate audio or whatever
brianwawok··on Mathematicians Need to Act
In the goal of the math problems to get the answers or think for years on a complicated topic? It’s the same Q developers have. Are they paid to type code or create programs?

As a not math person, seems strictly good that AI can solve more problems. If they were important, it can maybe unlock new science. If they had no useful purpose, why did we think about them for years?

brianwawok··on Europe EV Sales BEVs Jump 50% & Reach 26% Market Share
Sure they can, you can buy a CCS adapter. You are limited a bit by 400V, but honestly I have never been able to not find a Tesla charger - and I’ve done 100k miles around the US over the last 5 years
brianwawok··on Chinese chipmaker shares surge 470%
Depends on distance and size, there is a lovely chart. My projector at 10 feet away is night and day difference at 4k. Mathematically 8k should look identical, so I haven’t spent the money to try it to confirm.

The 1080p thing is true in the age of 40” TVs but not so much now, think Costco has a 95” TV if not 100”.

brianwawok··on Patreon laying off 20% of staff
There is a reason he hasn’t made it to management yet ^_^
brianwawok··on Couple pay >$800k for a gene-editing therapy for their daughter. She died.
What do they call the guy that got the lowest grade in medical school? Doctor
brianwawok··on SpaceX and the myth of independent Wall St research
Still cheaper to run power lines to a desert over run a data center in space
brianwawok··on Why it's so difficult to produce American-made medical gloves
Things like paying the workers a livable wage?
brianwawok··on Ask HN: Does it still make sense to write code by hand?
Which is great and why I started coding too. But for my day job I can’t have an employee deliver 1/4 of the code of someone using AI and ask for a full paycheck.
brianwawok··on S&P Global has lowered Oracle’s creditworthiness from BBB to BBB-
So you want to pay back the gains you make for the next year or two? Sounds like a good strategy
brianwawok··on Claude Code sends 33k tokens before reading the prompt; OpenCode sends 7k
lol I asked fable to help me estimate my TAM and it launched 102 agents and blew my $120 quota in 6 minutes. I do realize I can limit the agent count , hah
