lol I asked fable to help me estimate my TAM and it launched 102 agents and blew my $120 quota in 6 minutes. I do realize I can limit the agent count , hah
brianwawok··on Why it's so difficult to produce American-made medical gloves
Who’s paying to bring online a factory that sites idle just in case? Are you also paying workers to sit there idle?
brianwawok··on SpaceX wants to launch 100k more Starlink satellites for 100x the bandwidth
It used to be one of the best parts of a cruise, a week without internet! But it’s pretty decent these days
brianwawok··on SpaceX wants to launch 100k more Starlink satellites for 100x the bandwidth
Unreliable usually means not a clear signal? May have needed to adjust the install.
brianwawok··on SpaceX wants to launch 100k more Starlink satellites for 100x the bandwidth
Would fiber have come so fast without starlink as a threat though
brianwawok··on Resetting Xbox
Which is real dumb when in like self hosting a Minecraft server. Pay to play online has turned me off Xbox, I won’t buy next gen
brianwawok··on Resetting Xbox
S3 is. But obviously not all of it.
brianwawok··on Resetting Xbox
Nintendo is selling first party games for $80. No thanks.
brianwawok··on Finland's last analogue landline phones go silent after 150 years
Why is why landlines can easily have a battery. And my cell has one built in
brianwawok··on Nintendo has raised its employees base salary by 10%
Houses in Europe are made to last 200 years. I know traditional rural Japan houses get used for 30-40 years and torn down. So can’t just go on housing starts, would need to go on delta of total units. As houses get torn down, replacing is expanding.
brianwawok··on Bloomberg Terminal Is Ugly and Clunky–Everyone Still Uses It
Welcome to hacker news
brianwawok··on Does average person understand that all disc media dies too?
To back up a video disk you need to break multiple layers of copy protection and tricks. Not something the average non-technical user can ever do. You also need local redundant storage.
brianwawok··on Factorio 2.1 Experimental Release
I love it. Sad that we aren’t to expect another DLC
brianwawok··on Peppa Pig studio wants to clone child actors' voices with AI indefinitely
That’s fine as an adult. I don’t need my kids to hear it all day and learn that men are idiots like our culture likes to trope.
brianwawok··on Peppa Pig studio wants to clone child actors' voices with AI indefinitely
100x. We are pretty flexible but it’s on the ban list. Like 60% of the show is talking about how dumb dad is, and how he always messes up.
brianwawok··on Apple to skip high-end M6 Mac chips in favor of AI-focused M7 line
And if you skip open router and go direct you save another 5%
brianwawok··on Elastic lays off 7% of employees
Tech debt is much less important than many developers think it is. More sales over chasing tech debt almost every time.
brianwawok··on Elastic lays off 7% of employees
I’d love to hire for life, but what commitment can an employee give? It can’t be one sided or it’s terrible.
brianwawok··on Elastic lays off 7% of employees
As a business owner yes please! Charge me a flat insurance tax. And then give everyone insurance. It’s such a cluster.
brianwawok··on PostgreSQL is enough (2024)
Redis is basically free and nothing like the other tools you mentioned. Anytime I need a quick cache that will survive reboots it’s a winner. Agree on the other stuff though.
brianwawok··on The early hiring funnel is now breaking on both ends
It’s not worth a lawsuit for the reason to turn someone down. It’s also not worth hearing them argue back “yah I know JS you just asked bad question XYZ”… just not worth it
brianwawok··on Health insurance claim denial rates range from 13% to 35% by insurer
Right if you have insurance it’s pretty good. I’m happy. Most complaints you see are when you fall outside of that.
brianwawok··on Show HN: Are You in the Weights?
If there is someone else with the same name, I’m not sure that is a hallucination? But if there isn’t then yes.
brianwawok··on 10Gb/s Ethernet: switching to a Broadcom SFP+ module
Waps are next to power, some even have SFP+ ports
brianwawok··on 10Gb/s Ethernet: switching to a Broadcom SFP+ module
I did this and used little $129 Zyxel SFP+ to 2.5G copper switches to get to my access points. Has been running smooth!
brianwawok··on How to earn a billion dollars
The first billionaire I followed was gates. He did pretty horrible rent extraction to businesses all over the world. See monopoly trials and other similar things that didn’t go to trial.
brianwawok··on I'm Eric Ries, author of "The Lean Startup" and new book "Incorruptible" – AMA
Individual contributor? A nice way to say people who aren’t managers
brianwawok··on AI Companies Investing Billions in Residential Proxy
Bingo. For example try a curl from your AWS box to a major ecommerce site. Very good odds it won’t land. Now try the same curl from your house.
brianwawok··on CEOs who think AI replaces their employees are just bad CEOs
Get a dozen users word of mouth? They will tell friends? Won’t scale forever but it gets you going.
brianwawok··on MiMo-v2.5-Pro-UltraSpeed: 1T model with 1000 tokens per second
Uh Claude tries real hard to dodge work. Talks about how it’s really hard 10 PRs. Finally convince it to do as 1. It stops 10% through and says ok done with PR 1, we can work on the last 9 tomorrow. Ugh.
