brcrth··on Argentina, Brazil agree on cyber-defense alliance against US espionage
Also, don't forget corruption.
brcrth··on Grep too slow? Use git-grep
And if your editor is Emacs, you can use this: https://github.com/Wilfred/ag.el
brcrth··on Sorry, Geeks, Microsoft Excel is Everywhere
My impression is that Apple II/VisiCalc were used by small/personal business and Lotus 123 was for big corporations/industry. But I might be wrong since I wasn't even born on that period.
brcrth··on Perl is 25 years old today
So why you moved to Python?
brcrth··on SwiftKey Flow beta now open
I use 2 languages with the stock 4.2 keyboard just fine. Changing via spacebar.
brcrth··on Prismatic launches a full redesign and shares their awesome design process
So much better now. My only complain is that when you shrink your browser window you lose the interests section, which I visit all the time for specific news.
brcrth··on Mathematica 9 Is Released Today
SAGE is pretty cool too! http://www.sagemath.org/
brcrth··on Leaving Microsoft
Very enlightening. I always thought that the "financial world" were locked into Fortran/COBOL.
brcrth··on Marc Benioff: "Windows 8 is the end of Windows"
They also have Xbox.
brcrth··on Use Zsh
No, really. Use what you like/know. I hate posts about "you should use X because I like it".
brcrth··on After Nearly 100 Hours in Line, San Francisco’s First iPhone 5
So what's wrong with this? People are not being forced to do anything.
brcrth··on Tweetbot for Mac - Public Alpha
The lack of notification (my dock is permanently hidden and the app doesn't have a menubar icon) is such a deal breaker for me.
brcrth··on Siri is old tech now - check out Google's solution
So what? My point is that Siri doesn't apply as a valid/common "person" name in some languages and used the meaning in portuguese as an example.
brcrth··on Siri is old tech now - check out Google's solution
Siri in portuguese is crab. So the "People feel they are talking to another person" doesn't apply everywhere.
brcrth··on Ask HN: Movies for Hackers?

brcrth··on Light Table reaches funding goal of $200k
Since Light Table relies on CodeMirror (AFAIK), will some amount of money go to Marijn Haverbeke, along with other kinds of contributions to his project?
brcrth··on Say hello to Octicons
So you force a behavior through your browser but when it doesn't work you blame the site? Ok...
brcrth··on The new Git-scm.com
I wonder how much awesome free/open source tools/services would benefit from a clean, good design like this.
brcrth··on Create New File in Finder. A script for Alfred App
I use and like Alfred but I think most of the people here are comfortable with terminal and uses it a lot. The touch command is way more easier, fast and "portable".
brcrth··on How the IPO Ruined Google
I can't express how much I want to be ruined like Google.
brcrth··on Prismatic Hopes to Create a New Category of Social News
The only thing about it that I really dislike is that there's no option to delete or cancel your account (a trend with startups). I don't fall to the silly excuse that it's in beta or that they'll have such options "soon". This should be there since day 1. Shows respect for the user/tester and sends the message that your information/data is yours to keep/remove whenever you want.

Keep in mind that this is not a criticism towards Prismatic (which is really cool and well done), I just used them as an example to a common startup practice.

brcrth··on Does Hacker News Deliver Value For Startups?
Does your blog post deliver value for Hacker News? The answer is simple: it depends on the reader.
brcrth··on [dead]
I'm puzzled that Mint is on the list, which is a 1GB download and Arch Linux isn't.
brcrth··on Introducing Gemfury - It's like Dropbox for Hackers
But these days it's so misused that most people see it and dismiss as a "catchphrase" to lure people. Even if it's accurately used. So, it's better don't take the risk.
brcrth··on Introducing Gemfury - It's like Dropbox for Hackers
I closed when the first thing was to me chose a "weapon" (seriously?) of choice instead of giving me whatever the site's offering. What if I like Ruby AND Perl AND Node.js?

Edit: I know that Perl is not an option there, it was just for showing how a more "open" approach would be better. Also, the name implies that is a tool for people who likes/uses Ruby (gem). So people would dismiss it based only on the name, not visiting and seeing that there's more options.

brcrth··on Playfic - a platform for writing and playing interactive fiction.
My intention was to mention You and Cooper McHatton but Hacker News have the title limited to 80 characters. Also, such a cool site! I'm planning to write something as soon as I get some free time.
brcrth··on Why I Left Perl
It's just me or it's really strange that he's "moved" from Perl to Python because he doesn't like the fact that there's a preferred (by some people) way of doing things. Which, again, for some people, it's the "advantage" of Python, where there should be "one true/simple way" of doing things which, AFAIK, is summarized at PEP8.

Edit: grammar correction.

brcrth··on Back on Linux (after one year of Apple and OS X)
If you're a programmer using Emacs/Vim you really don't care for trackpad or mouse for the great majority of your computer needs.
brcrth··on How my todo list works
For me it feels like a beta app. Things works in a strange, kinda buggy way of an unfinished product.
