brasic··on GraphQL Is a Trap?
I work at GitHub and would love to hear more. Can you describe some of the data interactions that you find more convenient with the v3 API?

Presumably this possibility is part of the risk the lenders are taking into account and charging for. If loan collateral was subject to constantly being marked-to-market and lenders could “margin call” to get more in scenarios like this, lending would be quite a bit safer.

brasic··on HackerRank (YC S11) DMCA'ed the SymPy Docs [fixed]
Part of the DMCA takedown process is:

  > A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.
Has this penalty ever been enforced?

brasic··on Highlights from Git 2.34
> that you do not have any role in making Git itself

GitHub employs at least three full time git contributors, including the author of this blog post.

(Disclaimer: I am a GitHub employee who works on git-adjacent things)

brasic··on What color is your function? (2015)
Consider yourself fortunate to have (forgive the assumption!) never worked in a ruby codebase that uses eventmachine or promise.rb. It’s less common than in some other languages but ruby is perfectly capable of a callback/promise-based model for performing async io or query batching, for example. And it creates exactly the “function color” problem that this article describes.

brasic··on GitHub.Dev is now available on any GitHub repo
Codespaces clones your repo to a VM that you have full access to, github.dev is “serverless”: it operates in your browser and all interaction happens via the GitHub API

Why does this suggest disabling CORS enforcement in Chrome? Your users will be subject to CORS restrictions, if you are not you risk shipping a broken feature.

There's no cloud environment, it's all done in your browser using VSCode making API calls to GitHub.
brasic··on SSH client in Google Chrome
I wish this app could register itself as a handler for the ssh:// uri scheme [1].

brasic··on "My images are all upside down"
It only encodes orientations that result from rotation around the axis perpendicular to the line of sight (in other words, the rotations that can be reversed by display software). Parent was asking about the orientation with camera above the subject pointing directly down. I don't think EXIF can encode that -- there's no reason to, since display software has no way to reverse it.
