NetBird now includes a built-in reverse proxy directly in the management server. Point a custom domain at your NetBird server, configure the proxy in the dashboard, and your internal services are securely accessible from any browser, no VPN client required for end users.

There is a dedicated page explaining the difference between selfhosted and cloud versions: https://docs.netbird.io/selfhosted/self-hosted-vs-cloud-netb...

You can also use profiles and set management URL in the settings through the UI. You can even switch between self hosted and cloud versions: https://docs.netbird.io/client/profiles

Coturn is not needed in the new versions as STUN is embedded in the relay service now

Your usage is the best form of sponsorship haha

Would you mind sharing more about the issue? We have enterprises running NetBird with thousands of users with near zero issues. Apparently it is usually other way around - people migrating from Twingate to NetBird because of the former solution instability. Well, that is from our experience.

I suggest trying NetBird cloud to eliminate a potential misconfiguration of the self-hosted instance.

Roger that!

Got you. We are on it. One feature that is coming very soon is a reverse proxy .Similar to cloudflare tunnels. With auth, TLs, etc. Would it suffice?

Defguard as of my knowledge is a traditional VPN with a central gateway. NetBird is an overlay network with a full mesh capabilities. Though you can set it up in a gateway-like style with NetBird Networks but without opening ports and with HA out of the box: https://docs.netbird.io/manage/networks

love it! :)

Not quite similar tho. Pangolin is a reverse proxy, NetBird is p2p mesh for internal resources remote access

This can be a viable option nowadays!

Lets setup our very own locally hosted LLM using the the GTP-OSS! Then we will setup OpenWebUI and NetBird to access it with a familiar interface from anywhere in the world!
braginini··on NetBird Is Embracing the AGPLv3 License
The OSI definition doesn't allow that kind of restriction, mainly because it's all about keeping software as free and open as possible.

But the thing is, commercial open source companies play a huge role in making great open source tools, especially ones you can self-host. Without them, a lot of the software we rely on wouldn't even exist. People often push back when these companies change their licenses, but they forget the reality. Big cloud providers can make tons of money off open source projects without giving anything back. That's a tough spot for the folks.

I'm sure that in the nearest future we will have some COSS licenses :) Well, as an open source contributor I hope so

+1
braginini··on NetBird Is Embracing the AGPLv3 License
SSPL is appealing for business but it is not open source. That is a deal breaker for us. We want to remain open source under a license that is recognized as open source.

What did you find harder to achieve with NetBird than with Tailscale? I refer to more work and learning. Or is it purely related top self-hosting?
braginini··on NetBird Is Embracing the AGPLv3 License
This one is great, but unfortunately not open source: https://github.com/n8n-io/n8n/blob/master/LICENSE.md
braginini··on NetBird Is Embracing the AGPLv3 License
Fair point, but it won't be considered open source. NetBird wants to stay open source. AGPL gives certain protection, but is not 100% bullet proof.
braginini··on NetBird Is Embracing the AGPLv3 License
In order to safeguard the long-term innovation, sustainability, and collaborative spirit of NetBird, we are switching to the AGPLv3 license - ensuring it remains a powerful, community-driven resource for decades to come.

Robust security measures are no longer optional—they’re essential. Single Sign-On (SSO) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) are at the forefront of these defenses, providing critical protection for organizations and individuals alike. At NetBird, we recognize their importance, which is why our open-source version already includes both SSO and MFA at no cost. Now, we're extending this commitment by making MFA completely free for all users in the cloud-hosted version of our platform, ensuring accessible network security for everyone.

Hey folks,

I want to share something we have recently experimented with at NetBird. NetBird is a point-to-point WireGuard-based private network capable of creating a full mesh network of your devices. We integrated Rosenpass - a post-quantum key exchange protocol, making the NetBird mesh quantum-resistant. You can follow the article to learn a little more about post-quantum cryptography in WireGuard®-based private networks and how we integrated Rosenpass. Enjoy, and let me know what you think!
