bradleyjoyce··on Twitter Should Shut Me Down
I'm (somewhat) surprised by the lashing out and negativity towards the service in many of the comments.

Any product or service can be used for evil by evil people.

I've used Myles' service. It works amazingly well. So well, in fact, we looked at using his API to integrate the functionality into Socialyzer. We ended up not coming to terms and we built some scripts to do this for ourselves internally.

We use this functionality to build a very targeted following of people who may find our service (http://www.rewardrkt.com) useful . Our conversation rates from favorite, to follow, to registration on our site are extremely high. The people we auto-favorite are finding value in what we offer.

Favoriting their tweets is an efficient way to "introduce" yourself to someone without being super pushy.

After Twitter shutting down Flattr I reached out to Myles again to see if he'd seen the news. Of course he had, and I see his blog post as a bold move. Why wait around for doomsday if you can either (1) make it go away or (2) bring it about faster and move on to the next thing afterward.

bradleyjoyce··on Bootstrapping an Idea: the Paid Beta
I would consider my company, https://socialyzerhq.com, to currently be in a paid beta period.

Our paying customers are amazing. They provide us awesome feedback and encourage us to keep going.

bradleyjoyce··on Goodbye, Igal
Very sad to read this. Some of Igal's work inspired my vision for the Dallas startup community and what we're building with LAUNCH DFW.

I feel like suicide within the tech community has been occurring at an alarming rate this year.. or are we just finally talking about it publicly more?

bradleyjoyce··on Is Social Media Worthless?
Posting my comment on the site here:

Of course social media results will suck if you’re doing it wrong.

Most people have no idea how to optimize their social marketing efforts; that timing can drastically effect the ROI of a tweet; that topics and geographies should be optimized differently.

Here’s an example: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5clvhpib0drqv8s/social_infographic...

In addition, we just built http://www.rewardrkt.com to integrate our API with the http://rewardstyle.com API.

According to rewardStyle, approximately 80% of their publishers are earning revenue directly from social media. Some publishers, generating $20-30k per month in revenue, see 60%+ of their revenue from social channels.

so.. what worthy problem are you working on?
bradleyjoyce··on Polychart.js: An Interactive Charting Library
In no way am I projecting a preference for everything should be free. I specifically said I was willing to pay, but per developer makes no sense to me at all.

I build a commercial product myself that I charge for.

My point is that per-developer licensing doesn't make sense on any level... just because "that's how people have always done it" doesn't make it a good idea and that type of pricing doesn't allow me to compare the cost to the value. Instead of thinking, this product is awesome and I can use it on my 5 sites for $X.. I have to think, ok I have 20 developers and 5 of them work on site A, 7 on site B and the rest float around so how many people would need to be developing with the library, etc etc.

Right? or am I missing something here and am crazy? which is entirely possible.

bradleyjoyce··on Polychart.js: An Interactive Charting Library
I don't understand this per-developer licensing model. Not only is it completely non-enforceable but feels really out-dated and out of touch in the era of FOSS.

I will pay for an awesome charting product, but I don't want to have to think about how many developers will touch the code, when, how or why.

Something like a license per production site or an unlimited license makes a whole lot more sense to me and allows me to quantify the cost in terms of the value it provides to my business rather than how many developers I have.

We do this for Twitter at http://socialyzerhq.com, but rather than just limiting to historical data we try to predict when to send in the future.
bradleyjoyce··on We are 2 Italians, in Treasure Island, and we are launching CoffeeStrap.
I absolutely love this idea. As I've traveled to different places I've learned how amazing it is to people able to speak to people in their own, native language.

It breaks down barriers between cultures, ideologies and preconceived notions and makes us all just humans.

As an American, it pains me that so many people in the US don't or aren't able to travel to foreign countries and don't make the effort to learn other languages.

For me, it's been a life-changing experience.

bradleyjoyce··on Ask HN: First time in SF today and tomorrow – can I visit your startup?
If you get down to SV I highly recommend connecting with the folks at SiliconHouse http://siliconhouse.us/ It's a great program and they are super connected around SV & SF. Let them know Bradley sent you!
bradleyjoyce··on Netbot: An App.net Client from Tweetbot Creators
I'm curious as to why they created a completely separate app. Why not just integrate App.net functionality into Tweetbot? I'd certainly be much more likely to use it that way... and I even paid the $100 developer fee for app.net.

bradleyjoyce··on Ask HN: Anyone need a roommate in SFO?
Absolutely not. Everything with LaunchDFW will still progress as planned. It's definitely not a 1-person effort.

I will still be involved as much as I can, but at the end of the day I have to do what's best for my company.

bradleyjoyce··on Reinvigorating the Dallas Startup Community: Phase 1
The only way to change it is to change it... and it will be a long process and slower than we all want.

The only reason it's cool to be a startup in SFO or NYC is because they do have that density there and everyone is doing it.

For those that are in the community here, it is the cool thing to be doing.

bradleyjoyce··on My weekend project: What can you really do in a weekend?
I agree... including time spent learning doesn't make much sense to me, though I agree with the writer's point that the "real" time is much greater than a weekend.

We built v0.1 of http://queued.at in 36 hours of coding at Dallas startup weekend. Certainly each of the people working on the project spent a LOT more time honing the skills used to create the application, but from the first lines of code to launch was only 36 hours.

bradleyjoyce··on Online services I pay for
Amen! I don't understand the people that have cable and make this argument... it's crazy! For the people that don't have cable, $8 is sure a heck of a lot cheaper than the alternatives!
bradleyjoyce··on Ask HN: Am I an accredited investor?
Assets - Liabilities?

Your business surely can be considered an asset. The difficulty is in the valuation as you've mentioned. Cash on hand. Multiples of revenues or profits. These are all options.

Not sure what the SEC says on the matter.

The easiest thing to do, if you need to be 100% certain, would be to get a bank loan based on the value of your business and have the cash on hand to prove you meet the requirement.

bradleyjoyce··on Ask HN: Am I an accredited investor?
from http://startuplawyer.com/startup-law-glossary/accredited-inv... ...

The federal securities laws define an accredited investor in Rule 501 of Regulation D as:

5. a natural person who has individual net worth, or joint net worth with the person’s spouse, that exceeds $1 million at the time of the purchase, provided that the value of a person’s primary residence may not be used for such net worth calculation, but any indebtedness in excess of the value of the primary residence shall be used in the calculation;

6. a natural person with income exceeding $200,000 in each of the two most recent years or joint income with a spouse exceeding $300,000 for those years and a reasonable expectation of the same income level in the current year
