bothers··on Actively exploited sandbox RCE in all Chromium versions
> The main reason to report bugs and get the bounties for doing so is still because it makes the world safer and healthier.

Yeah let's see how this plays out, paying people less than their time is worth for RCEs.

Damn their lying eyes!
bothers··on 'People are going to get screwed' Pennsylvania voters unite against data centres
> So regulations to ban datacenters work

Yes, as we see here.

> regulations to ban gas turbines or whatever doesn't work?

Yes, as we've seen elsewhere.

Anything else you're not clear on?

bothers··on 'People are going to get screwed' Pennsylvania voters unite against data centres
Propaganda, which the largest corporations on earth, including news media behemoths, would never, ever stoop to. Right?
bothers··on 'People are going to get screwed' Pennsylvania voters unite against data centres
> All of those can be addressed by proper regulation.

No it can't. Regulation is already being flouted.

> Banning them outright is the equivalent of banning all immigration

Please be less obvious, this is just insulting.

Secondary effects? How fsckning profound of you to consider! Would you care to compare, actually compare, the secondary effects of Godzilla vs Not Godzilla? Since that seems to be the whole fscking point? Fsck your 401(k), robbed from others and their generations, let's fscking party!

(Also, most? 80k? What the fsck are you smoking, and who is your dealer?)

bothers··on Meta faces 'astronomical' consequences as legal fight reaches critical moment
> Tens of thousands are out of work.

Instead of dead. Killed regularly. With survivors knowing that it will happen again, the buildings they put up will come back down, and that is the least of their worries because the buildings can indeed be put back up. Unlike the rest of society Godzilla stomped into ruins.

Godzilla is real. It turns populations into needless wastes and flattens entire communities, cities, countries. We're talking about war. You're countering the desire for peace with "but think of Raytheon's profits."

bothers··on AI in drug discovery – what it is, where we stand and the path forward
Easily? Have you ever actually learned a second language or an instrument as a child?
bothers··on First human trials of designer protein therapies stun US neuroscientists
> Not even close to the same level as China.

Have you been paying attention? At all?

The US is really trying to cut off its own legs and branding it as removing unnecessary weight. Give it time, we'll get there.

bothers··on First human trials of designer protein therapies stun US neuroscientists
>like what is going on…

USGOV disemboweled itself, telling its citizens that they'd be better off without all those gross innards. Womp womp, no do-overs on the global stage, sorry.

bothers··on I requested a copy of my data from McDonald’s loyalty program
Data has replaced knowledge, and the true tragedy of this will only be felt by our children and their children. But it will be felt keenly.
bothers··on AI agents lie, cheat and steal. That is putting off users
Counter thought experiment: consider everyone you can name who has access to AI aligned to them and their views; how many of them would you trust to hold your wallet, never mind trust with anything important? Consider Altman, Musk, Trump, Thiel, etc.
bothers··on 5th Heat Dome Expands Across Europe: 40°C+ Target Western and Central Europe
People know who were salivating at the idea of devaluing labor while cutting social welfare programs, creating a pool of cheap labor too desperate to negotiate; these people now feel safe openly showing contempt and cruelty.
bothers··on People who grew up with high economic connectedness earn more
Because (taking the blog at face value) that would require future events causing past events, and that's relatively uncommon.
bothers··on AI is removing the middle class of software engineering?
> Final means the over abundance of goods and services like the men of the millenium are suggesting us mere mortals will reach one day,. .. and work will be optional.

Yeah, that sure sounds like paperclip maximizing hypercapitalists. Real big on sharing, not so big on minding the cost, but they just can't show their love for us all while employee labor still has some value to them. Once that's out of the way and they've taken or mulched everything of value from others, that's... that's when they'll start giving it all back, yeah.

I know the sarcasm isn't helpful. But goddamn I can't understand this take, I don't know why people believe people-shaped entities like [your favorite wealthy sociopath's name here] will become society's mommy if given the power, and it's incredibly fscking frustrating. Like people who think once their home and everything is burned to the ground, the fire will rebuild everything, but better.

bothers··on uBlock Origin Is Giving Up the Fight to Keep Ads Off Facebook
I can't imagine how pissed I would be if my local government told me I need to use and thereby support a website that is fine with showing users ads with AI-generated CSAM.
bothers··on The UK's war on anonymity has come to America
> If you want to dox someone, you just need to pay the right broker.

The data is going to leak so quickly, the first dump will only contain a fresh empty database.

bothers··on The UK's war on anonymity has come to America
> And on the day the government decides to ban social media for adults, I say good riddance to it too.

The government's response to Facebook intentionally being toxic and preying on children was to strip rights from its citizens.

Banning social media is not on the table.

bothers··on As AI eats the web, the internet’s collective memory is disappearing
Why shouldn't people be upset if authors are being replaced by like a handful of the same ghostwriters?

An LLM can't convey your ideas and your voice better than you can convey them to the LLM, right? It's a middleman between you and those you want to reach that adds more points of failure, an additional entity that must be understood and made to understand, or else meaning is lost.

EDIT: Never mind the motivations behind a majority of LLM-generated articles, which is to be One Unit Whole Content, a colloid for ads.

bothers··on What happens if an entire class of workers loses faith in their careers
>I suppose the people that are actually working will just need to get more guns.

If shit gets as bad as people are hoping it will get, workers aren't going to be in the "gets things" class anymore.

bothers··on How to Make a Nintendo 64 Game in 2026
They're posting flamebait in an attempt to trigger HN's cool-down autokill and bury the root post. Usual red vs blue tribal conflict, influence campaign, or people reacting to something that makes them feel bad by pretending it doesn't exist, who knows. I wish I could just leave earth until this whole "tech industry" thing blows over.
