Is it still the case that many folks can’t pick up their script at all independent of the manufacturer? Curious how long the wait is
bosch_mind··on Urgent: Sign the petition now
Bailout these companies because YC entrusted all their eggs into a single basket?
bosch_mind··on Ask HN: What are you working on to become a better programmer?
What kind of data?
bosch_mind··on Show HN: Kay, ChatGPT Inside WhatsApp
How much do you pay for this? Curious on the sustainability of it if it’s free but you pay for the messages and API calls?
bosch_mind··on Show HN: Reverse Proxy as a Service
How would this differ from routing reqs using a cloudflare Worker which provide both analytics insight and invocations at the edge?
bosch_mind··on Ask HN: What can I do with my DevOps Experience?
Why do you think it’s gone to waste? We have large teams of devops/SRE at my (large big tech) company. Are you interested in SRE roles?

I’m not really in this area, but something like Google SRE handbook might get you excited about it.

bosch_mind··on Ask HN: Taking 6-12 months off work?
I went to grad school so maybe slight set back
bosch_mind··on Five years of indie hacking
Thanks for sharing. Curious, how do you sustain on just $1k/mo?

The idea is inspiring but also out of reach for most people with expenses exceeding that

bosch_mind··on Ask HN: Taking 6-12 months off work?
What’s the plan after in current economy?
bosch_mind··on Ask HN: Taking 6-12 months off work?
Pretty much this. Grinding leetcode, constantly negotiating higher pay and getting massive bonuses early in my career. I’ve invested wisely and lived a simple life earlier on
bosch_mind··on Ask HN: Taking 6-12 months off work?
When I think about the last 6 months of tech in my field, not much has changed. What are you worried about career wise?
bosch_mind··on A senior engineer's guide to the system design interview
This is pretty cool. I’d probably have fun walking through some systems I’ve designed
bosch_mind··on GOTOphobia considered harmful in C
Most books like k&r, programming with posix threads, Beej confirm this with C.
bosch_mind··on Software Tests Are for Millionaires (2020)
This is a stupid article. Writing tests makes me code faster AND prevents bugs. Maybe this is true if you hire junior coders?
bosch_mind··on Ask HN: What's a good open-source alternative to Cloudflare?
NGINX? You want to self-host DDOS protection?
bosch_mind··on Ask HN: Skills/training for new grads and knowledge workers?
Learn to be humble and welcome failure at work. Ask a lot of questions, ask for help. Read books. You’ll be good after a year.
bosch_mind··on Ask HN: What is your system for learning new things?
Honestly this. When I learn something and want it to stay in my mind, I used to make videos. Then I’d narrate the videos and listen to myself, see where I actually fall short in understanding. I’d go for a drive and speak out loud in the car “Ok, so leader election in RAFT works like this”.

Very nice way of grasping theory. THEN I implement it all, from scratch.

bosch_mind··on Ask HN: Laid off folks, are you getting hired?
Where are you leaving from? Wishing you the best
bosch_mind··on What is a CDN? How do CDNs work?
They don’t use NGINX anymore
bosch_mind··on Silicon Valley needs to stop laying off workers and start firing CEOs
SG2M
bosch_mind··on Ask HN: Any good reads, articles or books on file migration?
Big company wallet :)
bosch_mind··on Cloudflare overtakes Apache and Nginx to become most commonly used web server
Do you use cat or ls? Those tools were written like 40 years ago
bosch_mind··on Cloudflare overtakes Apache and Nginx to become most commonly used web server
They don’t use nginx anymore
bosch_mind··on Spotify is first music streaming service to surpass 200M paid subscribers
Where do you get the music?
bosch_mind··on Ask HN: What are those strategic skills to master for the next 5, 10 years?
I’m going to +1 this. I’ve been doing a lot of breadth stuff in my career to see what’s out there and see what I like. UI, backend, distributed systems, CS masters in ML, bunch of just random shit.

All I can say is now that I’ve seen a bit, I’m ready to kind of just focus on the fundamentals more. Everything is rooted from the fundamentals and as I learn more raw, low level stuff, the less daunting all the other crazy stuff seems

bosch_mind··on Can Nginx servers scale to the level of Google
Cloudflare serves web pages bro because they proxy the bytes between servers from origin to eyeball
bosch_mind··on Ask HN: Why Is Everything Declining?
You should read factfulness by Hans Rosling and realize the opposite. Both from a health perspective and economic and violence
bosch_mind··on Ask HN: How to better understand packets and RFCs
Been reading this by the way and purchased the hard copy. Thanks, great book so far. Been writing along in C
bosch_mind··on Can Nginx servers scale to the level of Google
Nothing wrong with NGINX. Read Cloudflare post on Pingora.

Different needs for different usecases where NGINX is more of an OOTB situation. NGINX is great. I see Caddy mentioned quite a bit, believe it’s written in Go where NGINX is written in C. Cloudflare wrote Pingora in Rust IIRC and I want to say they are releasing an open source flavor

bosch_mind··on Can Nginx servers scale to the level of Google
Cloudflare used NGINX up until recently and that would be Google scale IMO
