bootsmann··on What has Docker become?
Yeah I think Quadlet just has bad docs. They document the whole API but iirc there is no: ok this is the hello world for running cowsay as a systemd unit
bootsmann··on EU–INC – A new pan-European legal entity
Its almost impossible for a fund from Germany to invest in a company from France and vice-versa. It is a significant problem!
bootsmann··on EU–INC – A new pan-European legal entity
This is a commonly cited stat but it is mostly an exchange rate phenomenon that disappears when you adjust for purchase power. If you go by comparing GDP in dollars the EU recovered almost half this gap last year simply from the dollar dropping in value.
bootsmann··on cURL removes bug bounties
If AI can't be trusted to write bug reports, why should it be trusted to review them?
bootsmann··on Article by article, how Big Tech shaped the EU's roll-back of digital rights
Very bold claim to make unsourced from an account with a very _interesting_ posting history.
bootsmann··on More sustainable epoxy thanks to phosphorus
EMPA is not a company, it’s a Swiss government agency. Maybe you should apply the grain of salt to your own priors too…
bootsmann··on Eight European countries face 10% tariff for opposing US control of Greenland
I don't think they could win at all, but Putin has proven that he can convince himself otherwise so an invasion might still happen.
bootsmann··on Eight European countries face 10% tariff for opposing US control of Greenland
They're too big of a market to have companies pull out over this. China has even worse conditions for foreign companies and everyone bends over backwards for a chance to sell there. Counter to popular sentiment in US tech circles, as of this year the EU is the world's second biggest economy (beating China to third place).
bootsmann··on Eight European countries face 10% tariff for opposing US control of Greenland
The problem is NATO, a lot of the EU is reluctant to push back because at the end of the day the US guarantees that Russia cannot pursue the type of landgrab it is currently trying to do in Ukraine against other states. The risk that the US runs into when trying to take Greenland is that this argument loses weight instantly, so the expectation is that the EU will be much more willing to use its anti coercion tools if Trump tries to make it a reality.
bootsmann··on Mistral OCR 3
Do you have any source on this other than vibes based on”EU bad” sentiment?
bootsmann··on US threatens EU digital services market access
Yeah the standard advice for European startups is to sell in the US first and worry about the local markets later, language and culture barriers are still huge.
bootsmann··on Analysis finds anytime electricity from solar available as battery costs plummet
> cleared of inflation energy costs are lower than 2013, 12 years ago

This is not the argument you want to make. Energy prices are a significant component of the basket used to measure inflation. Like yeah, you expect energy prices to sink if you discount for the rise of energy prices. Germany is suffering from high energy prices its the key factor why the country has been stagnating economically for the past 6 years.

bootsmann··on Google de-indexed Bear Blog and I don't know why
Sorry but how did 2 work before you fixed it? You saved the queries people did and displayed them?
bootsmann··on Valve: HDMI Forum Continues to Block HDMI 2.1 for Linux
Isn't HDMI held by TV manufacturers who are looking to make some extra bucks on the side getting a utility from cables/monitors/GPUs? I don't think they would intentionally nuke this revenue stream.
bootsmann··on Rahm Emanuel says U.S. should follow Australia's youth social media ban
This is how the eu standard for digital ID works already, the above post is uninformed fearmongering.
bootsmann··on YouTube caught making AI-edits to videos and adding misleading AI summaries
Its all kinds of annoying if you’re bilingual. Youtube now autotranslates ads served in my mother tongue to English and I have not found a way to turn it off.
bootsmann··on Netflix to Acquire Warner Bros
Society providing incentives for rich people to give money to charitable causes is good actually. An evil person doing good things for selfish reasons is still doing good things.
bootsmann··on India orders smartphone makers to preload state-owned cyber safety app
Note that the drivers license is actually worse because you cannot scope what information you present to the requester.
bootsmann··on DeepSeekMath-V2: Towards Self-Verifiable Mathematical Reasoning
They pay $30bn (more than OpenAIs lifetime revenue) each year to make sure noone does.
bootsmann··on Technical Deflation
I think you're right. The author is quite wrong on many aspects in my view. One of the central mistake he makes is that creating a profitable startup is mostly a matter of shipping good product i.e.

> Used to be, you had to find a customer in SO much pain that they'd settle for a point solution to their most painful problem, while you slowly built the rest of the stuff. Now, you can still do that one thing really well, but you can also quickly build a bunch of the table stakes features really fast, making it more of a no-brainer to adopt your product.

bootsmann··on Shai-Hulud Returns: Over 300 NPM Packages Infected
It does scale against this form of attack. This attack propagates by injecting itself into the packages you host. If you pull only 7d after release you are infected 7d later. If your customers then also only pull 7d later they are pulling 14d after the attack has launched, giving defenders a much longer window by slowing down the propagation of the worm.
bootsmann··on How a French judge was digitally cut off by the USA
Europe has higher industrial output than the US, its either trolling or misinformed beyond belief.
bootsmann··on Digital ID, a new way to create and present an ID in Apple Wallet
> Governments aren’t just rolling out Digital IDs. They’re rolling out the platform to enable them to require that you authenticate with a range of apps and websites, ostensibly to keep children safe, with the real purpose being to link your unique identifier to all your online activity.

This is just straight up not true for the EUDI which is probably the most serious and advanced approach to digital ID. The wallets are decentralized and the government does not see the individual authentication transaction in any way.

bootsmann··on The Department of War just shot the accountants and opted for speed
“Drones will make xyz technology obsolete” is probably the most naive armchair conclusion you can draw from the Ukraine war. Food for thought: Russias most impactful innovation of this war so far has been building more precise glide bombs, which notably are dropped by fighter planes (and the reason why Ukraine went after those planes with their drones).
bootsmann··on The Department of War just shot the accountants and opted for speed
Is this just their marketing language or have they independently verified this? IIRC their interceptors got absolutely rinsed at trials in Alaska so I’d be very wary of their claims at this point.
bootsmann··on Stop overhyping AI, scientists tell von der Leyen
Hello new account who exclusively drops RT-style political commentary, glad to have you!
bootsmann··on Vibe Code Warning – A personal casestudy
Yes of course, have the AI write the agents.md file which the AI can then use to make changes to the project. This of course works better than just having the AI write changes to the project directly.
bootsmann··on European Commission plans “digital omnibus” package to simplify its tech laws

bootsmann··on How the UK lost its shipbuilding industry
They still haven’t managed a successful launch of their new silo missile. If you were the US inspector, would you tell Russia if you thought their nukes don’t work?
