bootily··on Jeff Bezos’ big 60 Minutes reveal: Delivery drones and private cloud
Well they have to say private cloud, but seriously would you host your stuff on a service that hosts the CIA? Its a government hackers wet dream.

I feel bad for amazon on this one. They wont see it coming.

bootily··on REST API's are Crud
I completely agree with this posting. REST seems to be an api antipattern but it has gained a lot of traction because its easy to write.

As a response to SOAP, REST seems like a relief. But dialing back abstraction to the level of CRUD seems like a completely bad idea.

Getting home for dinner does seem like a benefit to the typist.

bootily··on Xtend: CoffeeScript for Java - a better alternative than Scala?
The video on the link does not impress. Patching java is getting pretty old.

Java is mature technology and you can (and I have) write any metaphor you want on top of it within the jvm 's constraints.

So the question becomes if your in the JVM and not writing java then you should probably have a big customer creating, money making, IT efficiency, time to market case to make.

As much as I can't stand closure at least I can't blame Rich Hickey for playing small ball.

These java patches are wanting and ill advised.

bootily··on Scala at Yammer (2011)
The notion that a compiler makes your code more correct is absurd. Also your emphasis on "correct" makes me wonder what your trying to say...all compiled programs are correct whether they work or not.
bootily··on Scala – 1 Star – Would Not Program Again
That is hilarious. And I also hope your joking.
bootily··on Leaving it on the field. No more side projects.
Yes it has. I identify with everything you said my marriage was ruined in a similar fashion.

I think I tricked myself in a way thinking side projects made me a better developer when really I was just addicted to coding and avoiding greater responsibilities.

Basically a recipe for disaster. Rather than feel insecure about not coding all the time I now find that I can solve problems better and quicker when I'm not exhausted from solving problems.

bootily··on Scala – 1 Star – Would Not Program Again
As a java Dev I have been watching Scala to see what people make of it. It seems like Scala is generally perceived as an academic exercise.

We all want more powerful tools and infinite expression but at what point are we bikeshedding languages instead of building transparently clear solutions?

Scala seems to be solving problems i dont have.
