Photos will be replacing iPhoto and Aperture: http://www.macrumors.com/2014/06/27/aperture-development-sto...

I believe Adobe has already released a plugin to import your Aperture library into Lightroom.

booticon··on Penny Arcade’s Insultingly Horrible Job
I read more into it and you're right; they posted the comic, then posted a passive-aggressive "apology" comic, then started selling the shirts. They took down the shirts and apologized, and then Krahulik later said that taking down the shirts was the biggest mistake he's made. So it's actually worse than I originally thought.

Also the Fruit Fucker does not rape PEOPLE, it rapes fruit. There has been outcry, but pretty balanced by the fact that it "takes advantage" of an inanimate object.

booticon··on Penny Arcade’s Insultingly Horrible Job
Saying you're sorry then putting out a goddamn tshirt with a reference to a rape joke isn't an apology.
booticon··on Using Silk Road
I have not used the site either, but from what I've read, the best idea is to use the name of a previous tenant, and to stick with domestic. If the parcel is sent via USPS First-Class or Priority, it cannot be searched without a warrant.
booticon··on What's so special with minimalweather.com?
For me apps like this can fall into habitual use, almost approaching muscle memory, e.g. checking e-mail/Twitter.
booticon··on What's so special with minimalweather.com?
My understanding of it is that they're working within the constraints of WebKit in iOS. Developers aren't able to update the icon in realtime, but if you have a homescreen webapp it can update the icon each time you launch it. This is a nice workaround, since I used to launch my homescreen weather app every ten minutes, and chances are the temperature hasn't changed much since the last time I checked. I say "used to" because I use the Weather widget in Notification Center.
booticon··on The Marco.org Review of John Siracusa’s Review of OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
You're taking this way too seriously. Please, read the review. My interpretation is that it's Marco poking fun at Siracusa.
booticon··on Google Chrome already No. 1 among free iOS apps
I've been using Chrome in iOS since it went on the App Store yesterday, and so far not being able to set it as my default browser doesn't seem to be holding me back too much. It replaced Safari on my dock, and my browser is usually within a single swipe on the multitasking tray at the most. Sure, you'll be thrown into Safari here and there, but that's the case for Mail as well, and I can still enjoy Sparrow.

booticon··on How text editing on the iPad should be
Well, I stand (somewhat) corrected!
booticon··on How text editing on the iPad should be
It looks like this person put a lot of thought into how text editing could be improved in iOS, and the video is well-made. However, a great feature of the iOS keyboard is that if you press the wrong key, if your finger is still on the key, you can drag it over to the key you intended to use. Has he taken this into account? It would be pretty frustrating if I made an almost-typo, and instead of inputting the intended character, my cursor moved around.
booticon··on This American Life Retracting "Mr. Daisey & The Apple Factory"
With the claims of using "dramatic license," it sounds like he's trying to have it both ways, especially since he was on Real Time with Bill Maher recently, and a lot of these things that turned out to be fabricated he mentioned in the interview as though they were fact: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iebnHvxKqlY
booticon··on IPad Event Confirmed: Apple Invites Press to 'Touch' Something
I can't get behind this mindset. First off, who are you to say that these sorts of devices don't enrich people's lives? For this conversation, I'll concede that tablets are largely for consumption. At what point would it be enriching?

Under your rationale, if you always think of who has it worse than you, you could never have a valid complaint. "Man, I will be so disappointed if the iPad 3 doesn't have LTE." "Don't you think about starving children in Africa?"

booticon··on Airplane Mode
Funny enough, I just saw an app for Android that does this: http://lifehacker.com/#!5599116/how-to-turn-your-android-pho... (God I hate LH's new design)
booticon··on Android (and Windows 7 phones) leads to too much hardware choice
You also can't predict whether the phones you're considering will get updated to newer versions of Android. I got burned by this when Froyo came out three months after I got a phone, and the manufacturer would not update it.
booticon··on Instapaper Subscriptions (beta)
Two completely different services. Instapaper will bookmark articles to read later, and cut out everything except the text. One downside is that it doesn't seem to be able to handle multi-page articles, however some sites have a single page view (or "printer friendly").

The killer feature in my book is the iOS app. It's a universal app, and will sync your article progress across your iOS devices. I love this — perfect for, e.g., reading part of an article on your iPhone while in line at the bank, then going home and picking up where you left off on your iPad.

booticon··on Apple Keynote just started streaming
The livestream has only buffered for me once. Other than that it's been flawless. Very impressive.
booticon··on Google Unveils Awesomely Fast And Accurate Voice Actions For Android
60% is 2.1, however, and both of these new Android features are only supported in 2.2. I have an Eris that went on sale less than a year ago, and chances are my phone will never be updated to 2.2.
booticon··on Switching to Android
The last album I purchased from Amazon MP3 has "Amazon.com Song ID: " in the comments field of the ID3 tag.
booticon··on Mossberg: New iPhone Keeps Apple Top of Class
I noticed you were downvoted with the quickness, and I think I know one of the reasons why:

"People calling it 'gorgeous' are fan boys sorely in denial."
A difference in opinion does not a fanboy make. You bring up a good point with the poor notification system, but just about everything else after that is bullshit. (I thought for a moment how to rephrase that in a nicer way, but I couldn't.)
booticon··on Gruber on AT&T's Change in Data Plans
While they're at it they need to break down voice plans a little further, too. I believe it was Dan Hesse that said he noticed people were using the phone part of their smartphone less. I don't see why I need to pay $40 for 400 minutes, most of which I don't use. I'd easily deal with half that. I just checked my account and I currently have ~4,000 rollover minutes.
booticon··on Falling out of love with the iPad
Unfortunately the 4.0 software update isn't planned to be released for the iPad until the Fall. Which is frustrating to say the least as I would rather have multitasking on the iPad than the iPhone.
booticon··on Pit of despair
Shit, it's making me depressed just reading about it.

booticon··on IPad review
"My iPad has no 3G, therefore it has no GPS. But applications were constantly asking me for permission to use my location. This seems like an oversight: if you don't have a location sensor, don't ask! Even the built-in Map app asked me for information that it could not possibly have."

Uh, ever hear of Skyhook?

For what it's worth you also need iTunes for software updates. Maybe one day we'll see OTA updates.

FWIW the latest beta of Chrome supports extensions, and there's quite a bit to choose from. Not quite at the level of Firefox, but it's a heck of a start.
