boosteri··on Google no longer automatically indexes websites?
Why does Nate Hoffelder need to review the security of my connection all of a sudden? It didnt seem to bother them an hour ago /s
boosteri··on Own-goal football (2022)
Good to get this cleared up. I had 5-0 in the back of my mind .. putting it down to too much SWOS back in the heyday
boosteri··on Rarbg Is No More
Is it they do illegal thing and then try to extort money from you for doing the same thing? Or have they received a royal blessing nowadays and can do so legally?
boosteri··on Hacking my “smart” toothbrush
Will just squirt some ink into your mouth upon detecting such abuse and violation of ToS
boosteri··on Deus Ex – Alpha Terrain
Ok but what's with that fence? Looking at that makes my eyes hurt. Is than an artefact of the video compression or the game itself?
boosteri··on The brand new Thunderbird logo
Maybe, but the product is called Thunderbird not Firebird
boosteri··on The brand new Thunderbird logo
Yeah, it looks like a Firebird now. It confuses the hell out of me
boosteri··on The brand new Thunderbird logo
Now it's just a fox looking like a bird. Not a fan
boosteri··on “Don Knuth Plays with ChatGPT” but with ChatGPT-4
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I look no further than bubble sort -- it is simple enough I can recite it straight away should someone wake me up at modnight.
boosteri··on The Upper Atmosphere Is Cooling, Prompting New Climate Concerns
On top of that (and maybe I'm just clumsy with controls) I can easily jump back and forth and re-read the text a few times if I need to. It's very difficult to rewind the video to exactly the same position you need it to.
boosteri··on The core problem with hamburger menus
That's their mobile layout in general. In their view they must have improved UX immensely since no mobile person has needed help/support since introduction of infinite scrolling
boosteri··on Companies Producing Biopolymers for Packaging
There's no need to limit this to meat. "Eating less would". And likely have other benefits too.
boosteri··on Don't write clean code, write CRISP code
Great example of how refactoring is a neat way to introduce bugs and break features
boosteri··on Aztec monks with 1/55 HP no longer die when picking up or dropping a relic
Well, once it's out it's out. O can just imagine fixing this would break some clever mod/campaign featuring deadly relics that monks are forbidden to touch.
boosteri··on AT&T Wireless traffic shaping apparently making some websites unusable
Is there more on this mitm cert spoofing somewhere I can read up on? Sounds intriguing to say the least
boosteri··on Digital clutter: Learning to let go and stop hoarding terabytes
Anyone figured out how to do that most efficiently? You can't have two "old" co-existign at the same time? I'm using the rename method but struggle each time Which one is better to rename, the old-old or the new-old?
boosteri··on Launch HN: Play.ht (YC W23) – Generate and clone voices from 20 seconds of audio
Nice, wonder how long will it take for banks to cotton on and get rid of the stupid "my voice is my password" verification mechanism
boosteri··on Exploiting aCropalypse: Recovering truncated PNGs
Thought it's common knowledge the proper way to redact things is by masking it physically, then re-doing a photo/scan of an item.
boosteri··on Is_email()
Yes but defining it like this does not help much in avoidong future refactoring. The value should be loaded from a property file and/or environment variable at least
boosteri··on Show HN: boxxy – Control where Linux programs put files, without symlinks
And then I've seen websites hoggi g gigs of local storage after you visit them once a blue moon. The trend is blatantly towards no optimization whatsoever. Apart from profits and squeezing the last drop off your customers by any means necessary
boosteri··on Reversing UK mobile rail tickets
Not necessarily, but governments would need to be transparent about subsidising logistics.. instead of the current state where this is done covertly by taxing little vehicles disproportionately.
boosteri··on Reddit's photo albums broke due to Integer overflow of Signed Int32
Nostalgic flashback to Premier Manager games, where players stats decreased as they aged. When they went /below 0/ they flipped around to 127. So a good strategy was to scout out really bad players from lower leagues about to hit age 30+. And offer them very long contracts to prevent them retiring .. and give time for most of their stats to flip around, turning them into superstars.
boosteri··on A fake job offer gone wrong
I'm guessing there was a study of some kind and not just theoretical debate? In a way I would agree with you, but I can also see an argument for the contrary. As in you don't want to change the pattern at this point as that might fire some alarms and spook the horses.
boosteri··on I liberate the ending to Minecraft from Microsoft and give it to you
There's and ending to Minecraft? There goes my perception (acquired over the years of reading bits and bobs about it) of it being an endless world building game.
boosteri··on No Privacy in the Electronics Repair Industry
Don't understand the downvotes.. you gotta vote with your wallet. Anyone asking for a password immediately loses all credibility in my eyes.

And besides, Apple churns out a lot of hype around their good privacy policies; it is good to know that not everything is gold dust when it comes to them.

boosteri··on Front end developers: stop moving things that I’m about to click on
Related, on Android the Mobile wallet seem to went through an A/B testing of some sort, alternating between 'Google Pay' and 'Wallet' app couple of times. The icons would automatically disappear, replaced by the other option. Que me standing in front of the POS desperately scrabbling around my mobile screen, feeling like an idiot the first time it happened.
boosteri··on Life in the slow lane: how the slow cooker changed the world
Not sure I quite understand why chopped up sweet potatoes need an hour in an instant pot. It takes about 15-20 minutes in a pot on a gas burner.
boosteri··on Show HN: I made a pretty relaxing puzzle game
I only ever got 90° rotation. The page mentions it should be random .. am I just that lucky?

Enjoyed the game though, nice and simple. And no hug of death yet, well done!

boosteri··on Plants use their epigenetic memories to adapt to climate change
But occasional flooding is not the same as constantly flooded. Also, 2ft rise means occasional flooding expanding inland and flood-safe zones shrinking.
boosteri··on One of the UK’s Largest Pig Farms Closes Down Following Animal Welfare Breaches
Why not publish the footage? Put it behind a warning or whatever but stop shying away from publishing the shyte that's going around the world. I very much doubt some words on a random website will sway anyone
