boguscoder··on Guitar amp and effects pedal built on the Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-AMOLED-2.06
This is interesting sloproject but in spite of all verbosity I still didn’t parse how do you interface with it when it’s running on intended hw rather than in browser.
boguscoder··on Obscura: VPN that can't log your activity
It’s often ‘impossible’ and until it happens /s
boguscoder··on MiMo v2.6
For 1000w draw it also generates almost as much heat, is your math including all the cooling required?
boguscoder··on A Topological Picture Book, Rendered
Going landscape seems to be a bit better..
boguscoder··on TALA Is Open-Source
Nit: TALA could be another layout engine for graphviz but its not a format itself (I suggested this in comments above). Graphviz also doesn’t imply specific layout unless you mean “dot” that is default. So conversion is somewhat undefined. Maybe you mean graphviz language to d2, afaik there is no official, 100% loss-less automatic translator because of some subtle differences in these declarative languages
boguscoder··on TALA Is Open-Source
Would integrating/implementing this into graphviz be a good move or mixing wrong things?
boguscoder··on There's No Limit to How Bad Code Can Get
The funny thing is that these days they would make it a lot worse with LLMs, perhaps post lots of wins on LinkedIn too. It’s not impossible to steer that ship but it’s never gonna be one shotted in “do refactor, make no mistake” way
boguscoder··on Move in C++ without a std:move
Title made me think they’d just show that move is just a simple cast, nothing more
boguscoder··on Dyson CameraJet: The only toothbrush with a camera and a jet
Whole mouth brush was a gimmick for almost two decades if not more, maybe these days its more adequate but I can only imagine what it could do to gums. Doctors can’t wait..
boguscoder··on Fastpotify
have you summed up all the Spotify Helper processes from Chrome? alas its way beyond 200MB. But I just built and ran release build of fastpotify and its also hovering in 500s
boguscoder··on TurboKV: Insanely fast Rust key-value store
Embedded could also mean no_std, which this is absolutely not. Still cool though
boguscoder··on Microduck
Question is how long it takes before you need a subscription or get paperweight like owners of Anki robots
boguscoder··on Aphantasia Beginner's Guide
Not that this needs treatment (or is even curable), but I wonder how many people misdiagnose themselves as having aphantasia because of differences in how imagination works. Red apple test just doesn’t seem to be thorough enough. There were spikes of lactose intolerance, gluten intolerance and all sorts of other self-diagnosed deviations from the norm that has no connection to reality, its some quirk of human psyche to cling to any opportunity to feel “special”, mostly harmless but might but at times hinder search for help for those who really need it
boguscoder··on c100
Im mostly curious if R&D was self funded or its a problem of kickstarter-like bakers now? This wont pay off
boguscoder··on OpenLogi
Name leaves me optimistic it could support keyboards in future
boguscoder··on The Art of 64-bit Assembly
Yes, you either follow Itanium ABI (non Win) or MSVC ABI. Technically nothing stops _your_ compiler from implementing totally own conventions but it will only be compatible with itself
boguscoder··on An ESP32 based plane radar for my desk
Perhaps I didn’t read it thoroughly enough but it seems that lat/long of the “radar” are expected to be entered by user, I think using wifi positioning could be of great assist and could be done from mcu itself without involving web portal, though maybe portal already does it (didn’t get to see it)
boguscoder··on How do we stop vibe coding?
It might not be so much of a peer pressure than “industry pressure” soon. You can keep hand-crafting it all you want as a hobby, but selling your crafts will be totally different matter
boguscoder··on Arduino Launches Plug-and-Play Modules for Long-Range Sensor Projects
Title made me think elrs receivers
boguscoder··on Motion Sensors and Home Security Gadgets Without Cameras
Post kinda accidentally gives away why most/many people long for cameras - price. Pretty much every single amazon link is more expensive than plug’n’play Tapo camera and for many the security/privacy question remains secondary
boguscoder··on Kimi K3 is now live
Why only a half measure
boguscoder··on Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controllers
Honest question: are wiki links to any technical topic post worthy now?
boguscoder··on Web Browsers on PDAS
I thought everyone in my generation knows of PalmOS but TIL its later known as GarnetOS..
boguscoder··on Swiss parliament lifts ban on new nuclear power plants
You made it sound like any country that wants nuclear weapons can get them.. just look at Iran. I think existing nuclear weapons club is very interested in keeping membership pretty tight
boguscoder··on Abandoned and Little-Known Airfields
It would still help to add “in US” to the title
boguscoder··on Running local models is good now
Same experience on M4 Max .. but quality of qwen still leaves so much to be desired after getting used to virtually unlimited tokens at work. Many people on this (and similar) thread seem to believe local models would inevitably improve, and I want to believe this too, but I don’t see this ever happening without growing in size
boguscoder··on Shift will clean homes for free to train future robots
Errr, good bot, bad bot!
boguscoder··on White Rabbit – sub-nanosecond synchronization for large distributed systems
Its on gitlab but even there I failed to find sources, documentation/presentations are there though
boguscoder··on Samsung chip workers will get an average $340k bonus as AI profits soar
Any bonus is better than no bonus but averages are deceiving. Maybe VPs would get 10m and line workers 10k ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
boguscoder··on Cisco workforce reductions
The legalese around it is that it’s always contingent on your employment on those futures dates. It’s based on past performance, yes, but it’s not payment for past work (that’s what bonus is for), its incentive to stay longer and contribute to company’s success. When you are out of the door (for whatever reason) company looses need to incentivize you to:(
