bogdan··on Trump says Venezuela’s Maduro captured after strikes
Do as the priest says not as the priest does.
bogdan··on Trump says Venezuela’s Maduro captured after strikes
There is a single objective truth, it's just, not only unfeasible, but also undesired to determine it.
bogdan··on OpenAI's cash burn will be one of the big bubble questions of 2026
Most things are wrappers around RDBMSs.

Then you have to deal with os compatibility. That's the main selling point of the Web, it works everywhere.

> I can hand my technologically-handicapped 65-year-old mother an iPad and not have to worry

We don't have to lock an entire ecosystem of devices because your mom's technologically-handicapped

> American tech dominance elsewhere has more to do a lack of competition

If that's true, why doesn't America compete on this front against China?

> they're more often than not held at a disadvantage by domestic governments

So when the US had the policy advantage over the EU it was just the market working, but when China has the policy advantage over the US it suddenly becomes unfair?

Without destroying the button? and consistently on every type of remote out there that has a netflix button? How?
bogdan··on Lawmakers want to ban VPNs
You can buy a Hong Kong esim in China that has access to everyrhing. You can use any vpn service and it just works. The only place I had trouble was the airport wifi but shadow proxy works fine. So I don't know what you're talking about

bogdan··on Trump to impose $100k fee for H-1B worker visas, White House says
You're taking a all or nothing stance. There must be a middle-ground where employers don't risk getting "scammed".
bogdan··on Trump to impose $100k fee for H-1B worker visas, White House says
* The worker gets to leave their sponsoring employer on the day of their arrival, if they choose to. The employment contract may not include any clawbacks of anything.

You almost had me there.

> It never ceases to amaze me in worst way possible how quite a few people here keep treating them as something more, over and over

A lot of people are investing in Apple, most likely you are indirectly as well, if not you then your pension. Not surprised some people would defend everything they do. Then you have the die-hard fans and I'm sure there's some PR peeps going around especially how it easy it is nowadays with AI.

bogdan··on Google Pixel 10 series review
The 7 Pro is still good enough for my day to day for now. My next upgrade is going to be camera focused and I'll choose accordingly. I don't even mind importing a Chinese phone as long as I can still use nfc payments.
bogdan··on Google Pixel 10 series review
I have a pixel 7 pro and never really had issues with the fingerprint sensor . Regardless, never buying Google again because of their decision to lock down apk installs.

> Until the customary war starts

It's good to know liberal democratic progressive countries such like the US would never start a war.

bogdan··on Simulator of the life of a 30-year-old in the UK
I'm confident whoever created this has never stepped foot in London, or if they did, it was briefly.

bogdan··on Is being bilingual good for your brain?
Could it also be because translations are never as good as the originals? One thing that comes to mind is translated songs, they usually sound off and forced to my ear. On the other hand I never read the same material in two languages so it's hard to really have an opinion but I did CS in another language than English and can say very confidently say that it was a huge pain to discuss with professors CS terms that were force translated into my native tongue, it was unnecessary and even though it's been many years since I graduated I still have those terms imprinted into my mind.
bogdan··on How Cloudflare blocked a monumental 7.3 Tbps DDoS attack
That's quite harsh. Good thing you're not in charge of making decisions.
bogdan··on Is there a half-life for the success rates of AI agents?
If I'm paying someone to solve a problem for me and they tell me part of it is left for me to sort out then I'm gonna be pretty unhappy with how I spent my money.
bogdan··on Airbnb is in midlife crisis mode
I’ve had my share of bad Airbnb hosts too, not as bad as yours, but still enough to ruin a holiday and make me hesitant to use them again.

The bit that I should have expected but didn't was how strongly they side with the hosts in case of disputes. In hindsight, of course they do; the hosts are their money makers, while I'm booking them only a few times a year.

I stopped using Airbnb and closed my account. Hotels are fine, and never had any major issues.
