bofadeez··on What if we made advertising illegal?
No that's not a transaction. We're talking about contracts. Derp.
bofadeez··on What if we made advertising illegal?
People in other countries also have natural rights. Even if they live under oppressive governments, the right to free speech still exists. It's the same logic used by abolitionists to justify ending slavery.

"Natural rights are those that are not dependent on the laws or customs of any particular culture or government, and so are universal, fundamental and inalienable (they cannot be repealed by human laws, though one can forfeit their enjoyment through one's actions, such as by violating someone else's rights). Natural law is the law of natural rights.

Legal rights are those bestowed onto a person by a given legal system (they can be modified, repealed, and restrained by human laws). The concept of positive law is related to the concept of legal rights."

bofadeez··on What if we made advertising illegal?
Any voluntary transaction between two conscious, consenting adults is axiomatically ethical and moral.
bofadeez··on What if we made advertising illegal?
"Congress shall MAKE NO LAW respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

What part of that are you confused by? You are making a brash claim that the writ of the state includes the ability to censor speech.

Your right to free speech is not granted by anyone. It's your natural right. It's not possible to separate this right from a human with a law.

bofadeez··on What if we made advertising illegal?
It's just paraphrasing the declaration of independence. This is already the established world order.

You have an extremist point of view that your right to free speech is granted to you by the government.

bofadeez··on What if we made advertising illegal?
This is free speech. It's not open for discussion.

Our right to free speech is not granted by anyone's consent or by government decree. It preexists the state and cannot be taken away.

We hold this truth to be self-evident. We are endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights.

If any government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it.

bofadeez··on Science Stopped Believing in Porn Addiction. You Should, Too
What's more interesting is - how did this guy manage to make a whole career out of this one single topic? This is academia now?

bofadeez··on Coolify: Open-source and self-hostable Heroku / Netlify / Vercel alternative
The point is the UX is identical with Coolify on a cheap VPS compared to overpriced Heroku/Netlify/Vercel.

Just comparing exact performance and price and features.

A blank linux VPS has a different UI/UX.

Why does it seem like you're deliberately misunderstanding? Do you work for a platform?

bofadeez··on Science Stopped Believing in Porn Addiction. You Should, Too
The piece misses a crucial layer of spiritual depth, reducing complex human struggles to mere moral conflicts without grappling with the existential weight they carry.

Al Goldstein’s brash claim—that porn defies Christian culture and elevates the self above God [1] points to a deeper void that this article’s clinical focus ignores.

Its data-driven approach feels hollow when it sidesteps the soul-searching questions that often define these experiences.

bofadeez··on Show HN: We are building the next DocuSign
You're building other features?

Or you don't believe how quickly it could be done?

Just use github.com/different-ai/embedbase. Full-stack RAG directly from a PDF into some javascript widget window. Ingest a PDF and chat with it in like 2 lines of code. It's almost no work at all.

Your website is (down now but) made with lovable so you're vibe coding this? Or just your landing page?

bofadeez··on Show HN: We are building the next DocuSign
But... that's all you're doing though? Because one could fork OpenSign and stick a RAG agent on the side in a couple hours, right?

One could literally vibe code this feature into a PR for OpenSign in like 15 minutes.

bofadeez··on Show HN: We are building the next DocuSign
That's it? You could fork OpenSign and stick a RAG agent on the side of it in a couple hours I guess. Not much going on though.

This is really useful. LLMs need external feedback to self-correct reasoning.

Devil is in the details. Teenagers tend to appreciate things that can seemingly collapse a complex topic into a binary black and white thing. The real world is nuanced.

Pretty good idea! Especially now that SOTA tokens and email lists are so cheap. I don't understand why the tone of the article is so negative.
bofadeez··on Tell HN: Alaska Airlines website exposes passenger data
Agreed. Every customer support rep should be making at least $200k a year. Then they'll care about their career and quality will improve with their morale.
bofadeez··on QwQ: Alibaba's O1-like reasoning LLM
It still fails at very simple stuff.

E.g. "I put an ordinary rock into a glass of water. I then turn the glass of water upside down, do a little dance, and then turn the glass right side up again. Where is the rock now?"

100+ lines later...

"The rock is at the bottom of the glass, submerged in the water."

bofadeez··on California first state to ban 'sell by' 'best before' label to reduce food waste
The right of self ownership. You are not entitled to control the flesh of another person.
bofadeez··on California first state to ban 'sell by' 'best before' label to reduce food waste
These rights are inalienable. They are not derived by permission from a collective.
bofadeez··on California first state to ban 'sell by' 'best before' label to reduce food waste
You can't comment on what sovereign individuals, who have no voluntary contractual obligation to you, do with their private property. That's because you have no ownership over their physical flesh. They own 100% of their body.
bofadeez··on California first state to ban 'sell by' 'best before' label to reduce food waste
You waste too much. What other people do is not your business.
bofadeez··on FTC Report Confirms: Commercial Surveillance Is Out of Control
That seems more realistic. But even if a marketer theoretically had access to atomic level detail on every single prospect, there's not much they can do to manufacture demand.

Humans are kind of smart and resistant to manipulation. Especially the ones with money.

bofadeez··on FTC Report Confirms: Commercial Surveillance Is Out of Control
Sounds like vaporware. Might be possible for a negligibly small % of visitors. And even then cold outreach is not very effective.
bofadeez··on SpaceX launches mission for 2 NASA astronauts who are stuck on the ISS
It's become the normal way of thinking here on HN. Everyone is so deep inside a box that they can't even see the edges. They're brainwashed with cult behavior.
