bodhi_mind··on CodePen 2.0
Solvable with reasonable defaults and putting most things behind an advanced section?
bodhi_mind··on GLM-5.2 is the new leading open weights model on Artificial Analysis
Cool project! Side note: Kind of a bad practice imo to ask people to blindly execute bash from an unknown source.
bodhi_mind··on What young workers are doing to AI-proof themselves
Cutting pex to remove old shutoff valve and crimp on a new 1/4 turn valve took me probably 2 min and a $15 tool from Amazon.
bodhi_mind··on TDGS: Open-source game engine for table top RPGs
TDGS provides mathematically transparent rules designed for computational verification, making it ideal for indie developers, AI-powered tools, and anyone who wants to build on tested mathematics rather than reinvent probability.
bodhi_mind··on Gen Z first generation since 1800's with lower cognitive performance
Except it’s the present
bodhi_mind··on Craft software that makes people feel something
I’m stuck on the opening sentence. Family went to sleep in the morning so rest of the day is free? I must be missing something but that doesn’t make sense.

Did the author chloroform them?

bodhi_mind··on Show HN: Forty.News – Daily news, but on a 40-year delay
You’re right that claims of being “chosen” can be misused, but in classical Judaism it means chosen for personal moral responsibility, not automatic virtue or supremacy. The phrase “light unto the nations” emphasizes modeling justice, compassion, and humility through your own actions. Anyone who interprets it as justification for harming others or claiming inherent superiority is a fringe distortion, not representative of Jewish teaching.
bodhi_mind··on Show HN: Forty.News – Daily news, but on a 40-year delay
A lot of Israelis who reference “God’s chosen people” aren’t claiming superiority in the way it’s often interpreted abroad. In Jewish tradition, “chosen” historically means chosen for responsibility, not privilege. The phrase “light unto the nations” captures this: it’s about modeling ethical behavior, justice, and compassion, not dominating or controlling others.

Understanding this helps separate the original ethical meaning of “chosen” from the way it’s sometimes misinterpreted in political discourse: it’s meant to be a call to moral responsibility, not a claim of inherent superiority.

bodhi_mind··on The peaceful transfer of power in open source projects
I appreciate the kind words!
bodhi_mind··on The peaceful transfer of power in open source projects
The whole “why I contribute to open source” has been on my mind lately after I published my first open source project and it’s gotten moderate attention from the data engineering community (200 GitHub stars):

TinyETL - Fast, zero-config ETL in a single binary https://github.com/alrpal/TinyETL

The transition from being the sole architect of “my” project into more of a maintainer, organizer, director, has been a unique experience and interesting to reflect on.

What’s the future hold? I really don’t know.

bodhi_mind··on How I fell in love with Erlang
There’s no denying that Erlang is bad ass.
bodhi_mind··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (Nov 2025)
Thank you. I’ll check that out. Are you the developer? Are you in the data engineering space?
bodhi_mind··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (Nov 2025)
TinyETL. Fast, zero-config ETL in a single binary.

Transform and move data between any format or database instantly. No dependencies, no config files, just one command.

bodhi_mind··on Why we migrated from Python to Node.js
There’s also Django channels which is pretty sweet for certain tasks, especially websockets.

I use a combination or channels and celery for a few projects and it’s works great.

bodhi_mind··on Kirigami-inspired parachute falls on target
Looks like it could stuck around animals necks like soda can 6 pack packaging.
bodhi_mind··on "Be Different" doesn't work for building products anymore
Saying everything is a CRUD app is a reflection on the level of abstraction a developer usually works in.

Someone who worked more in embedded systems may say something like “everything is ‘just’ a state machine.”

bodhi_mind··on How Israeli actions caused famine in Gaza, visualized
The problem is we’re in an age of mass disinformation that makes any claim potentially propaganda. It comes down to trust and belief and those things are either easier than ever or harder than ever depending on media you consume and common sense.
bodhi_mind··on Comprehension debt: A ticking time bomb of LLM-generated code
At least llm will delete code it replaces instead of commenting out every piece of old functionality.
bodhi_mind··on Vibe coding has turned senior devs into 'AI babysitters'
I think it’s allowed me to spend more time being an architect and thinking about processes, problem solving. To put it another way, I’m still a developer, possibly to a higher degree (because I can spend more time doing it), and less of a coder.
bodhi_mind··on Next.js is infuriating
I also use next and use the pages router. Makes for a development friendly react front end.

And I have some use cases where I want to have a headless crm/api “hidden” behind the front end. So in these cases using next as a backend proxy works well for me.

bodhi_mind··on Things that helped me get out of the AI 10x engineer imposter syndrome
Funny. This is exactly how I use it too. I love to make a ui change prompt and switch to the browser and watch hot reload incrementally make the changes I assume will happen.
bodhi_mind··on Launch HN: Societies.io (YC W25) – AI simulations of your target audience
Does it consume your website to test with? Run js and use layout and positioning into account? What about local websites under development?
bodhi_mind··on Fast
If it’s something simple, I’ll use Django template because it’s very easy. Most stuff I work on these days requires more fancy ui so I’ll 100% use react or nextjs for front end (and I’ve be using zustand for state management). I’ll have an api util that uses axios and handles appending a jwt auth header to all requests and use that in my components. I like using Django-all-auth because it makes integrating email/google/microsoft auth really easy out of the box.

DRF is good, ninja is a little more light weight and flexible so it really comes down to the project.

bodhi_mind··on Figma will IPO on July 31
From my limited use of figma, everything starts from a template. I think this is a core part of adoption.
bodhi_mind··on Australia widens teen social media ban to YouTube, scraps exemption
This reminds me of Amazon fire’s kids program.

It’s absolutely worthless to whitelist content when the default “age appropriate” filters have thousands of content that need to be blacklisted one by one and then new ones are added all the time.

I even built a chrome extension that loops over them to disable but they just keep coming.

bodhi_mind··on Fast
I’m senior developer on a feature bloated civil engineering web app that has 2 back end servers (one just proxies to the other) and has 8k lines of stored procedures as the data layer and many multi k line react components that intentionally break react best practices.

I loathe working on it but don’t have the time to refactor legacy code.

———————-

I have another project that I am principal engineer and it uses Django, nextjs, docker compose for dev and ansible to deploy and it’s a dream to build in and push features to prod. Maybe I’m more invested so it’s more interesting to me but also not waiting 10 seconds to register and hot reload a react change is much more enjoyable.

bodhi_mind··on 2D to 3D model and 3D print it
Yes, I run a cybersecurity real-time vulnerability alerts service.

As a hobby, I have a 3d printer and tiny cnc mill and design my own models using openscad, blender, Houdini.

bodhi_mind··on 2D to 3D model and 3D print it
idk what your revenue is. I could be way off base, but I dont think hobby makers are going to be very interested in a subscription model (or $5 per generation). Its cool, but they'll flock to open source stuff or "bring your own AI model" kind of free tools (since those are usually cheaper and more configurable).
bodhi_mind··on 2D to 3D model and 3D print it
While I think the concept is really cool, I instantly think that majority of users are hobbiest individuals who don’t want to pay. Are you finding traction?
bodhi_mind··on Try the Mosquito Bucket of Death
I definitely notice an increase in local (my backyard) mosquito activity if I accidentally leave standing water around. So I can see this working.
