bobthebuilders··on Big Tech are supposed to be the plumbers, not patricians of internet discourse
Yes. Legally you would. Now would your partners and customers and all the people who buy your products be ok with it? Hosting companies have popped up where for this exact scenario. Most businesses have a stack of (supply chain? vendors? dependencies?), and all of those people need to support you for you to stay afloat.
bobthebuilders··on In Praise of PostgreSQL
We use H2 Database (JVM only) at work for that. It solves the problem really well of a bunch of stuff that needs access to a single file DB, while still being able to embed the DB engine.
bobthebuilders··on Show HN: Wiser – minimal hypervisor boots Linux VM, written in C
Rust is a langauge which exists because colleges want to churn out programmers who do have not spent the requitisre 4 years required to learn C. I really think we need some sort of licensing for programming...
bobthebuilders··on The database ruins all good ideas
CockroachDB is a terrible technology that causes almost guaranteed data corruption due to its lack of ACID guarantees and is written in a language with a GC which contirbutes to GC pauses. The dev team refuses to listen to feedback to port their code to C ;(.
bobthebuilders··on Tool to convert copyrighted music into fair use
Using ddos-guard, does this sell my info to Russia?
bobthebuilders··on Writing a firmware-only keylogger
Chatbot detection protection? Throws some whataboutism and a human written paragraph attacking the comment to disguise things.
bobthebuilders··on Check If Email Exists
Climate change is technical problem. Carbon sequestering coal plants can remove all carbon from the atmosphere. World hunger is undoubtedly not a technical problem though.
bobthebuilders··on Folk wisdom on visual programming
Unless you game for a living, you usually work a lot more than you game.
bobthebuilders··on Check If Email Exists
Incorrect, I tried sending a mail and it bounced.
bobthebuilders··on Amazon is using algorithms with little human intervention to fire Flex workers
By using a fraud retransmitter algorithim, you can spoof the system to retrofit the app and hyperconverge onto an optimal, legal solution.
bobthebuilders··on CompCert – Formally-verified C compiler
UB can not be relied upon as the compiler can do arbitrary transformations to the code. Relying on it will cause security issues or head scratching bugs down the line.
bobthebuilders··on Citing a serious flight test incident, FAA slows Boeing 777X certification
Just an FYI, it's North Charleston in South Carolina.
bobthebuilders··on Django for Startup Founders: A better software architecture for SaaS startups
My bad, I was confused with another project. I can't edit it now.
bobthebuilders··on Django for Startup Founders: A better software architecture for SaaS startups
They threatened the Python language committee if they didn't get their way wrt PEP 576. Their library also contains C extensions with undefined behavior, and telemetry that phones home.
bobthebuilders··on Django for Startup Founders: A better software architecture for SaaS startups
Exactly. FastAPI's maintainer was so unprepared he had to stir up a storm to prevent a legitimate Python feature from coming in. One of the benefits of a larger and more involved community process is the fact that each person exerts less individual control.
bobthebuilders··on Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) v1.0 (W3C draft)
I think it's really just the fact that it's a standard.
bobthebuilders··on The Backblaze Rebrand Reveal
Yes. Congress should investigate Backblaze for that. The tech industry needs more regulation for this incompetence in my opinon.
bobthebuilders··on A compact quantum-computer that fits in 19-inch server racks
It's even worse I think. The quantum course represents a scam, as these 11 qubits are "faked" based on magnetic principles. Think of it like Bulldozer's 8 "cores".
bobthebuilders··on Korea revokes approvals for 1,700 communication equipment, devices
Yes, read TFA
bobthebuilders··on Restaurants May Finally Get Relief from Grubhub and Uber’s Automatic Sign-Ups
Nobody asked to be listed on Google in the early days.
bobthebuilders··on GitHub – nushell/nushell: A new type of shell
I wouldn't say putting a sh shebang and assuming bash is better. With a bash shebang at least you're honest about it.
bobthebuilders··on Why Can't Computing at the Heart of Bitcoin Be More Useful?
Bitcoins use an entropy increasing resistance hash function, which makes it terrible for heating and cooling. There's a reason why we should use FedCoin instead of Bitcoin or cash or gold.
bobthebuilders··on Zld: Drop-in, faster version of Apple's linker
The codebase seems remarkably small. I expected linkers to take a lot more effort to write.
bobthebuilders··on A Ryanair Flight Carrying an Opposition Journalist Is Forced to Land in Belarus
And for the journalist question

bobthebuilders··on A Ryanair Flight Carrying an Opposition Journalist Is Forced to Land in Belarus
A plane was diverted under threat of missile attack and forced to land.
bobthebuilders··on useStateMachine: A ½ kb state machine hook for React
I find React and Vue to be different expressions of the same core concept in a way. Althoguh I do prefer the functional nature of React, reactive objects are a lot less boilerplate, even if it might be a bit slower. The composition api itself is actually I think where it shines, because the options API is very mediocre in my opinion.
bobthebuilders··on JWT should not be your default for sessions
You don't need a DB. The same in memory stuff that supposedly works for fast session auth works here too.
bobthebuilders··on Building an Open Source GPU
Do you have any sources, or is this just name calling?
bobthebuilders··on Pgvector – vector similarity search for Postgres
Would this be a good fit to recommend books to users when I have day 3m books and 200k users? If not, what should I be looking for?
bobthebuilders··on Starting a TypeScript Project in 2021
Literally?
