bob_kelso··on Woz and Religion
But I think it's clear he didn't feel that an external group, period, would give him (extra) happiness.

I am not really sure that this is very clear from the quote, nor do I see what it has to do with religion. I have not read the book so I might be missing some info, but from this quote alone it's really hard to make those assumptions. For all you know one of the things he already has in his life that makes him happy might actually be a religion of some sorts.

bob_kelso··on Woz and Religion
I don't see how Woz not falling for Scientology's "pay us money and you'll finally be happy" - scheme has anything to do with religion.

Maybe I'm missing something but I feel like the author is trying to read something into this that isn't there.

bob_kelso··on John Siracusa's OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion Review
AutoPager (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/mmgagnmbebdebebbcl...) for Chrome enables you to just scroll through the entire page, works great for me at least.
bob_kelso··on I built my blog on websockets
The same thing happens to me on Chrome 20.0.1132.47 on Win7.

Perhaps the webpage is having trouble handling the load. In any case I think you shouldn't be so quick to judge before you have even been able to read the actual content.

bob_kelso··on Unemployed Programmer Kept Sneaking Into Apple to Finish the Job
But he wasn't fired. His project was cancelled so Apple offered him to work on something else and he declined.

I don't get why the manager would want to throw him out though. A capable employee working for free sounds like every managers dream.

bob_kelso··on Why Hipmunk Is The World's Best Travel Site
I'd like to recommend Dohop (http://www.dohop.com). We try our best to not only get the cheapest prices but to also display the complete price, that is, including potential credit-card fees, booking fees etc.

We also have a nice affiliate-service where you can set up your own Dohop-powered flight-search engine on your site and customize it to your liking. (http://whitelabel.dohop.com/)

Dislaimer: I work for Dohop (if you hadn't already guessed it).

bob_kelso··on Will the Americans with Disabilities Act tear a hole in Internet law?
Yes I read it and I was trying to point out why I thought you were wrong in using racial segregation as a metaphor.

It is a totally different thing to deny someone service based on factors they cannot control as skin-color or disabilities, than to not extend your service to take every group in the world into account.

If i develop a service that is useful to a lot of people, I shouldn't be punished for not taking into account every possible user.

I am not saying that deaf people don't deserve to be able to watch movies on Netflix, but I think that Netflix should be encouraged through grants etc. to make the site more useful for people with disabilities instead of forced.

bob_kelso··on Will the Americans with Disabilities Act tear a hole in Internet law?
Your analogy makes no sense. Netflix isn't 'not serving "blacks"': Def people are allowed to use Netflix all the same as other people, but as they can't hear what is said their experience is arguably worse than other peoples, but that is not Netflix's fault.
bob_kelso··on We know what you're doing
Hmm, looks like they removed this feature. It at least won't work for me (in neither chrome nor firefox).

It is fairly easy to get a link to the profiles however:

The urls to the profile-images look like this: "https://graph.facebook.com/[facebook profile id]/picture"

By replacing "graph" with "www" and removing "/picture" we get the url to the profile.

bob_kelso··on Implementing A “Metrics for Pirates” Dashboard
What's up with all the colors in the slides? The slides are so busy they become unreadable. At least for me.
bob_kelso··on Chrome limits off-store extension installs
But what happens if someone complains about my extension and Google decides to pull it from the store?
bob_kelso··on What's The Best Language For Safety Critical Software?
A similar thing happened to me. Our professor forced us to program a lot in a language of his own invention called Morpho (http://morpho.cs.hi.is/). Although it does have some cool features I don't think anyone has ever written anything properly useful in that language and I'm fairly certain that I will never ever write another line of Morpho in my life. I'd say you were lucky since Eiffel is actually used to some extent out there in the real world.

There should be some sort of ban or restriction for teachers teaching their own textbooks or obscure languages.

bob_kelso··on 4 Weeks with DuckDuckGo
Wow, thank you for pointing this out to me. I think it's time I give DDG a second chance.
bob_kelso··on 4 Weeks with DuckDuckGo
I tried DDG for little more than a week about a year a go and it made me realize how much I use the search suggestion feature in Chrome. The lack of that feature using DDG really annoyed me. Often I don't know the exact spelling of the thing I'm looking for or the best way to phrase my question (English being my third language), and the suggestions I get in chrome just by typing a few letters in the address bar is really great. And often times I'm just looking for how to spell a word and with the suggestions I don't even have to leave the page I'm on.
bob_kelso··on Codakido, Lua/SDL programming environment for Kids, with C64-alike editor
That's amazing! I would have loved something like this when I was growing up. If you can do that simple games would be no problem, and who doesn't dream of making their own games.

Also, try 'z' and 'p'.

bob_kelso··on Poll: What online music service do you use most frequently?
I wrote a simple desktop client in C# .net that minimizes to tray and can be controlled with global shortcuts and haven't used ANY other audioplayer since.

Edit: its available here: http://www.missingstatement.com/groovesharp

bob_kelso··on Why I Don’t Do Sales On The App Store
Isn't it a bit contradictory:

"All I get out of a blind code giveaway on a social media site is a lost sale."

and:

"In most cases, people claim codes because they like the idea of getting something for free, even if they have 0 intention of ever using it."

How is giving your app to someone who would never by your app a lost sale? To me it makes sense to give away promos every now and then. True, not everyone will use it, and yes, maybe someone who gets it for free would have been prepared to pay for it. But maybe the onces that start using it have friends who they show your app to. Friends that like your app and buy it. And maybe they have friends too... So you give away maybe 20 "copies", but since this costs you nothing, every sale this gives you counts as profit!
