bndr··on Being a CTO at a small digital agency
Hey everyone, I thought maybe it can be interesting for some oof you, I know there are a lot of aspiring developers here who want to know what’s it like being a CTO.
bndr··on Ask HN: What companies are most likely Theranos of 2020?
Another interesting fraud I read about is OneCoin, they raised about 4$ billion [1] until 2019 and the creator of oneCoin disappeared. They were positioning themselves as a cryptocurrency which ended up being simple a ponzi scheme. `Cryptoqueen` podcast sheds more light on the story.

bndr··on Ask HN: What companies are most likely Theranos of 2020?
AFAIK they did deliver a product to the market, don't know how good it was though.
bndr··on Ask HN: What companies are most likely Theranos of 2020?
From my perspective I think one is WeWork - shady practices, shady CEO, custom metrics to valuate the company.
bndr··on Dealing with complex projects
Hey guys I’ve wrote some thoughts on working with complex software projects. I would appreciate your feedback!

bndr··on 14,766 Let's Encrypt SSL Certificates Issued to PayPal Phishing Sites
The certificates serve their purpose - they encrypt the traffic between the client and the website. I think Let's Encrypt does it's job perfectly.

It's not Let's Encrypts job to protect users from fraud.

bndr··on Announcing GVFS: Git Virtual File System
It's a normal practice, google does it also: "The Google codebase includes approximately one billion files and has a history of approximately 35 million commits spanning Google's entire 18-year existence. The repository contains 86TBa of data, including approximately two billion lines of code in nine million unique source files." [1]

bndr··on Pycycle: Find and fix circular (cyclic) imports in python projects
Hey guys, feedback is welcome.

Code with circular imports in python does not work. (ImportError: Cannot import name X) I have come across this problem several times, and depending on the project size it becomes problematic to identify where exactly the problem is. This tool shows you the chain of the imports that are causing the problem, after that is up to developer to fix it e.g. restructure the imports or move the imports into the function call.

bndr··on Show HN: Tool for pinpointing circular imports in Python
Hey guys, author here.

This is my weekend project, I just decided to fix a pain point that new python developers usually have. This utility helps identify where the ciruclar import is.

issues/pull requests welcome!

I built a utility for python programmers - pipreqs which helps to generate pip requirements.txt file based on imports of any project

bndr··on A Message to the Apple Community in Europe
You don't need to be an expert to understand that 50 Euro Taxes on 1 Million Profit, is not that much.
bndr··on Russia says it can collect encryption keys to decode information from WhatsApp
The linked fsb.ru update says nothing about ability to collect encryption keys by themselves.

It only says that the method with which the companies will be able to give them the encryption keys is approved.

Still, my russian may be rusty, but it seems to me, the FSB just documented a procedure which the companies will need to follow to provide the FSB with the keys.

bndr··on Remote code execution, git, and OS X
When I do `dnf update git` I get at most 2.4.11/2.5.5, the only way I can get the latest is to compile from source.

EDIT: OK. So the fixes were backported

bndr··on Remote code execution, git, and OS X
Why the hate for OS X? Fedora 22 and Fedora 23 have only git 2.4.11 and 2.5.5 in their repositories.
bndr··on Is Apple Using Swift?
I would say that new apps are being written in Swift, while the old ones will stay with Obj-C. It's too complex to mix Obj-c and Swift, so why go through the trouble?
bndr··on Why Go Is Not Good (2014)
> Any critique of Go seems to be met with angry pitchforks in this place.

You can say that about any language. The people that like the language will always defend it. e.g. PHP, C, Ruby. They all have flaws and yet when one talks about their shortcomings, the people get defensive.

bndr··on If you are storing important info in Evernote, think twice
Yeah, no.. I'd rather use a service where I don't need to double-check if my data is synced or not..
bndr··on If you are storing important info in Evernote, think twice
The question is, why wasn't this one piece of data saved to the cloud. It seems to me that this is a critical bug.

How can I be sure, that all of MY notes in Evernote are being synced correctly? I also use only the mac app, never checked the web interface.
