blueprint··on Proof-of-Stake is better than Proof-of-Work; the Merge won’t fix other problems
what do you mean by slashed?

having hardware is not the thing that allows you to attack a PoW network. especially if it's one of the ones that anyone actually puts any stock in the network security of.

bitcoin's network security is a joke (although certainly better than PoS), so hopefully we're on the same page about that as well?

blueprint··on Proof-of-Stake is better than Proof-of-Work; the Merge won’t fix other problems
The issue is not the fact that proof of work is more centralized, the issue is the fact that proof of stake is truly breakable by taking out a small loan
blueprint··on Proof-of-Stake is better than Proof-of-Work; the Merge won’t fix other problems
few people take eth seriously so i hardly think centralization and big money wins. ethereum doesnt even exist anymore if we say that there is something yet to win. so, eth lost a long time ago. we have needed a better solution since 2016.
blueprint··on Number of 'lonely, single' men is on the rise, says psychologist
Sorry I can't hear you. You're not 6'3" and jacked with solid self-worth and sufficiently secure familial models and a lack of major trust issues. :) Kidding, but..

Human society isnt static. It can also be affected by a thousand cuts. The cuts in this case would be untruth. So many false things have become proliferous while people have forgotten ancient meanings of some of the most basic yet important terms like love. It's no wonder people are wandering around and blundering. We need a simple teaching to guide us. Humans got rather arrogant in the last 80 years.

Don't forget that the word incel means involuntary celibate. It does not posit a mechanism or cause or blame necessarily. I would say some of the greatest philosophers, and thus perhaps some of the truest men in our history, were incels too. It was not because they misunderstood reality. They lived lonely lives due to being sincere when others couldn't match their level. Even Buddha begged people. He wandered countries looking for someone who wanted to stay near him and to learn. He wouldnt have had to be on the move otherwise. Scholars have rewritten this blatantly with their own subconscious projections in "records" that he was surrounded by hundreds of learners or that his begging was somehow an opportunity for the lay people to accumulate virtue by supporting the work of the Buddha through supporting his life. (Bodhidharma, the first patriarch of Zen, made it rightly clear to the emperor of China that supporting Buddhism does not implicitly build virtue and as a result of being ejected from other places Bodhidharma got to stare at a cave wall for years while we "revere" him today.) What if the alms means something else as well: that Buddha was wandering and begging for people who actually wanted to know. Shakyamuni had a wife but the discoveries he made also meant he had to take a virtually entirely platonic role much like that of a modern therapist but to the entire world. Personally I think he knew the tradeoff he was making and was trying to make a point for the future of humanity that even that is what humanity is really like. The real story of humanity is us discarding the sincere people who think highly of us. This is actually a very great teaching. Perhaps the greatest one he could have left for us. Even though it looks similar to a grudge, and though it is easy for monks to use as a story to cover a personal grudge, in Buddha's case it was an act of love. But I would still probably categorize him as an incel bc it's clear he would rather not have had to leave his family and to open his mouth and live in alienation only to die in a "park" by the road. it was a sacrifice he made because people have limitations and he had a job to do.

blueprint··on An earthquake could destroy a sizable portion of the coastal Northwest (2015)
the tsunami is almost certainly not going to reach i95. the shaking is the bigger issue for most of WA and OR.
blueprint··on An earthquake could destroy a sizable portion of the coastal Northwest (2015)
I have seen many of his talks. that statement about west of i95 being toast is not incorrect. He made a very obvious point of the fact the energy released by this quake will be nearly 3 orders of magnitude greater than a 7. Coastline drops 30' and shifts 50'. 250 miles inland everything will move a foot still. do you have any idea how much fire, flooding, and death there will be?
blueprint··on What is quantum field theory and why is it incomplete?
ah. it talks about issues with putting fermions with spin on a lattice. there's more to fermions than a continuous exponential function though! :)
blueprint··on What is quantum field theory and why is it incomplete?
What theorem is he talking about though?
blueprint··on NSA, NIST, and post-quantum crypto: my second lawsuit against the US government
You mean you're not going to engage in argument of substance because you're just that much of an expert. Oh. I'm not dubious at all.
blueprint··on NSA, NIST, and post-quantum crypto: my second lawsuit against the US government
Uh, would you take your simple argument and give me even a single sentence pointing out proof or clear indication it's horseshit. So far I only saw you arguing over words mostly
blueprint··on NSA, NIST, and post-quantum crypto: my second lawsuit against the US government
> Everybody is on high alert. Being on high alert doesn't make Bernstein right.

What exactly are you arguing for, with this? Pretty sure the dude you're replying to knows about the existence of cognitive biases, thanks.

blueprint··on The need for quantum computers remains small
No, per Susskind, we need entangled quantum computers of sufficient size to do wormhole experiments!

blueprint··on Cold Showers
How new devs modify the code depends on its names too. So does how we further consume code modules. Architecture and system complexity are virtually emergent from names. So I agree. Kind of a nonsense one.
blueprint··on That Doesn’t Feel Like $150 Worth of Groceries
what on earth are you talking about lol
blueprint··on That Doesn’t Feel Like $150 Worth of Groceries
I dont understand how that is relevant to something being a consumable. A consumable means it can be consumed. mine a resource or use the soil, etc ., ... and you're using it up.
blueprint··on The ACLU Has Lost Its Way
the 'slippery slope' is not a fallacy. they are real. I'm sure you'd agree if I cited some examples.
blueprint··on That Doesn’t Feel Like $150 Worth of Groceries
yes it is...? how is it any different? it can be consumed.
blueprint··on That Doesn’t Feel Like $150 Worth of Groceries
so crazy that houses are not considered consumables. they absolutely are! does anyone believe that by living in a house we are granted an automatically self-repairing house? if not: it's a consumable, just one that is consumed, in the general case, over more than just a few minutes. there are other factors that contribute to its "consumption" other than it falling apart, being used, and otherwise needing repair. the march of technology, for example, contributes yet another factor to its decline in relatively value, at a perhaps increasingly fast rate

so what you're saying is... you don't need more NIMBY housing in your back yard?
blueprint··on Managing mental health while running a startup
in cases of mental health issues it's not sufficient to just exercise or work or sleep and eat right but to have means of processing things internally ... but exercise is massive because it has giant effects on brain chemistry and inflammation similar to what sleep does and it is what you'd be doing , generally, if you did have those means of processing things in place. (at least get to the point where you sweat.)
blueprint··on How to Quiet Your Mind Chatter (2021)
> I do have a terrible "mind chatter" though, I'd rather describe it as white noise. Way too many thoughts going through at once, which makes it very hard to concentrate on anything.

It could be related to your dopamine regulation or to anything traumatizing which happened to you in the past that you haven't fully integrated yet. Out of curiosity does this seem like a possibility?

Suppose as you were growing up you and your feelings were always invalidated. You may have learned to try to repress them. But I hear that when we try to quiet our feelings they only get louder. The limbic system is said to want emotions. If you trained yourself to push down your feelings instead of e.g. inviting them with curiosity then they don't just disappear.. you may need to relate to them in an emotionally welcoming/safe state in order to resolve them. But it can be scary if you never felt safe feeling your own feelings, e.g. due to what may have been modeled for you by a parent.

blueprint··on Managing mental health while running a startup
Well, you're wrong.

They said "Quieting the mind"

And just by a vague guess, chances are I have far more experience with meditation and meditators than you do. Now are you going to open your mind, doubt your thoughts, and confirm, or are you content to simply quiet them and move onto the next victim?

blueprint··on Managing mental health while running a startup
You just did. Awaken yourself.
blueprint··on Managing mental health while running a startup
> None of this is new and has been known for millennia.

This is a lie. It has not been taught for centuries to quiet or attempt to repress your thoughts. What a terrible thing to propagate. There are different kinds of meditation. The problem is, you already know exactly what you're doing with the style you're practicing. Talk to a good therapist instead and they'll tell you to sit with your feelings, not attempt to quiet them. For a very important reason.

blueprint··on Managing mental health while running a startup
Suppose you took a narcotic whenever you felt pain. Once you have taken the narcotic you would not be aware of the pain. In fact you might naturally go to the narcotic whenever you have pain as a means of avoiding the pain. You may even lose the ability to tell when you are feeling pain or where it's coming from because all you have to do is take the drug.

Meditation means different things to different people.

For many people it is a tool of repression, avoidance, and dissociation.

Now before you tell me that this is not a healthy way to practice I want you to acknowledge that everyone is merely using the terms mindfulness or meditation when they can mean different things, and it's important to remember that we don't automatically have a bias towards the correct understanding of things, and perhaps there's even a bias towards the worse practices of meditation, in a similar way that it's easier to fall down a hill than it is to climb up it. Entropy, as well, tells us that things tend to fall apart if they are not constantly maintaining themselves.

It's easy to dismiss what I say. but that'd be very typical of someone who doesn't want to hear it because they'd like to avoid what's really going on with themselves.
