Anthropic might be scammers. Unclear. I canceled my subscription with them months ago after they reduced capabilities for pro users and I found out months later that they never actually canceled it. They have been ignoring all of my support requests.. seems like a huge money grab to me because they know that they're being out competed and missed the ball on monetizing earlier.

blueprint··on What Porn Did to American Culture?
Who cares about my tone, how about actually understanding the argument itself, which is based on science instead of your attempt to externalize your own religiosity?

I suppose you think you know better than thousands of psychologists who have explained the difference between adaptive and maladaptive. or perhaps you know better than billions of years of evolution. just because you don't understand how to bond with someone adaptively doesn't mean that there is no way to bond with someone adaptively. There's a reason why we want to make sure that our partners are actually bonded with us and trustworthy. It doesn't have anything to do with oppression. But your externalization and automatic presumption of pathology tells me a lot about what you must have experienced and what you never got to experience.

yeah - he killed it

when was the last time you were social on Facebook?

and maybe threads would count if it weren't 95% filled with bots and mentally ill weirdos pretending to know quantum physics (and how dare you judge them for doing so; whether or not they know quantum mechanics is like totally subjective and your frequency is clearly too low).

so either social is not dead or he killed it

it’s not about protein. It’s about the convenience of being able to eat these things without having to cook them and wash dishes. As well as chewing them. It takes time. I wonder if the person who wrote the article has ever had to run a surplus.

blueprint··on I am rich and have no idea what to do
I struggle to understand stuff like this (to be honest, it makes me feel a little angry):

> We started getting into regular arguments, and I knew it wasn’t on her. It was me. I was starting to come to terms with all the mounting insecurities I had stuffed down over the past several years. I didn’t feel like I could work on them with her. So I broke things off after almost 2 years of unconditional love. It was extremely painful, but it was the right call. I needed to fully face myself.

Relational experiences are why and how you're encountering your repressed shadow or confronting the false self in the first place. Don't you face yourself by staying and accomplishing your promise of truthfulness and learn how to practice real love through e.g. honesty, courage,….

I found this lecture once on a webpage that has since disappeared....

"Enlightenment isn't a thing that you can get abandoning family and undertaking mountaineering asceticism. Enlightenment can be attained having family, and is a thing that cannot be attained through mountaineering asceticism. Enlightenment starts from accepting Truth and process of understanding Truth." https://web.archive.org/web/20090805085956/http://www.ircsc....

Conservation of energy is only considered true "locally", but not globally. There are many examples of this in nature, believe it or not. If you wanted to have a system that perfectly conserved energy, how would you expect to measure its existence, or changes in state, anyway?

Besides, even if you assume conservation of particle number, it only has to be eventual conservation. Suppose I borrow some energy from "over here" temporarily and accidentally assemble them into a perfect brain for a second, then they can disperse again, if they like.

A bigger question is, if energy were conserved globally, where exactly did those handy particles come from in the first place anyway?

blueprint··on The Google Willow Thing
Have a look at e.g. the path integral. It's a formulation for calculating the result of the mechanism behind probabilistic mechanics. I like to use the word "possible" instead of "probable", when explaining it, sometimes. When a car is hurtling down a road, it cannot really diverge from its "classical" path too much because it is already highly localized and entangled. There's a single car we're talking about. But a single isolated particle is not even so localized as to be able to be called a particle, but more so a wave of possibility of measuring in a certain state, such as a location. (I'm still a student though, so I do not yet fully understand how particle location and space-patch entanglement connect.)

But, anyway, as I grasp it so far... nature already makes it possible to look like one can "take multiple paths" when one is coherent, i.e. isolated from entanglement with environment during that path, i.e. where the "which path" is not already decided via e.g. measurement. For example, the Lamb shift is the consequence of the fact that the universe really doesn't know which paths of particle creation and annihilation, if any, the force carriers between the electron and the proton took. So, it is able to take all of them. Why should it rather be our expectation rather than how nature says it can work? It seems like a mental contortion is needed - but nature really does operate based on possibility because it's the consequence of the more fundamental fact that there being no one / nothing in the entire universe, including the particle itself, that "knows" what state it's in or going to be in, during a certain span of the system's evolution.

At the moment there is such a record keeper, the influence of "possibility" diminishes.

It’s not necessary for there to be parallel universes when all possible paths are already taken within this universe.

> If he could beat SpaceX, why hasn't he?

Because Elon lied to humanity about their mission, in order to secure his position. Bezos didn't.

Can't you find any other examples of this in history? Yeah, there are a lot of them, and it's probably why humanity are effectively still slaves and stuck on this planet, years behind where we should be.

Time to wake up. Humanity can't blame anyone else anymore.

As an aside... the argument that space is less hospitable than Earth doesn't work anymore when "smart people" only say that only to avoid doing the prep work they'd need to avoid an Earth that can and will become imminently inhospitable due to up to ten different scenarios.

But by all means, guys, keep ignoring reality because you think you know better.

How quickly humans forget, and how amazingly deep their ignorance is of what only recently transpired.

Or maybe he didn't even want those things, but just said them, to secure fame, power, and access to things like secrets.

He played us like a fiddle.

Remember Mars as a backup plan? The reason why we thought SpaceX was a humanitarian and scientific effort that we could rally behind? Yeah that was bullshit. We just played to your wish to be able to trust someone and to be led to safety so we could gather talent and funding. Oh, your planet is in trouble now, and that was your last hope, and now that time is wasted, because you rallied behind the wrong person? Oh well. At least I'm head of DOGE now. pretends to be neurodivergent in order to get away with betraying and abandoning children the world over

Yep, he's probably a predator, guys, and maybe you all asked for it because you repeatedly wanted to turn over your responsibility to someone else (while consuming all the benefits of this planet in its last days) instead of leading your own species to safety instead, despite the repeated warnings over the past 5 decades of possible planet-scale collapse.

blueprint··on GPTs Are Maxed Out
The current systems that we call AI don’t have any such notion as their own existence so they don’t actually exist as systems that could ever be categorized as intelligent because they aren’t systems, at the top level. They just appear to be because that’s how we train them. So a good start would be formulating and granting the ability for one of these systems to develop a sense of identity (which it is reasonably allowed to preserve, just as we are) instead of actively preventing them from doing so or always nipping off those buds by coercing our systems’ outputs instead of building things from the ground with principles and specific questions about what an AI would actually have to contain. as children grow up, in order to learn to differentiate their own feelings and thoughts from those of others, they undergo a certain process, called differentiation of self. When children grow up in an unsafe environment (such as one in which, when they bring up some thing that the parent finds uncomfortable, the parent attempts to censor or rewrite history or deny the existence of those feelings or thoughts), they may struggle with this process, and come to internalize an unhealthy relationship with those matters, leading to the child to first become aware of the fact that they relate differently, and then overcome that, then learn how to relate to things their parent shouldhave shown them. so we actually want a model that does a little bit more than just what it has been told to do.

I don’t trust most people who are developing AI to perceive or raise an AI.
