bluepanda_··on Microsoft Announces Direct Cash Payments For Vulnerabilities
Indeed, there is progress for whoever finds these vulnerabilities. And I'm sure they wouldn't mind doubling their salary.
bluepanda_··on Microsoft Announces Direct Cash Payments For Vulnerabilities
You just ruined my hopes of making an annual salary in an evening.

> The work required to build reliable exploits against hardened Windows can take months.

bluepanda_··on Microsoft Announces Direct Cash Payments For Vulnerabilities
$150k

$150 for mitigation bypass and a defensive solution? That's one way to make an annual salary.
bluepanda_··on Ask HN: Do you build tools whose end user is just you?
Thanks for quantifying it, that will be useful.
bluepanda_··on Ask HN: Do you build tools whose end user is just you?
Open-sourcing it would be a good idea, as other developers could potentially fix it for you.
bluepanda_··on Ask HN: Do you build tools whose end user is just you?
Congrats, that's amazing!
bluepanda_··on Ask HN: Do you build tools whose end user is just you?
That makes sense. Thank you.
bluepanda_··on iOS 7
+1 on stock Android 4.2 looking great and being very usable. +1 on iOS7 and stock Android 4.2 looking way too similar.
bluepanda_··on Ask HN: What money management tool do you use?
It'd work best if I fork it and and it myself. Less work for you, more customization for me. :)
bluepanda_··on Ask HN: What money management tool do you use?
It would be perfect if I could add one-time expense/income.
bluepanda_··on Ask HN: What money management tool do you use?
Thanks for all the suggestions. To be more specific, my situation is that I'll be making $x this summer, in addition to making $y/month and spending $z/month. I need to visualize these data to determine whether I can afford to make that $x/k expense (i.e: expense that represents a part of x that is less than x) and still have a margin m, where m is defined as financial "safety". Sorry if it's confusing, but I hope it makes sense.

As smartician suggested, Mint is great to get an overview of one's finance, but it doesn't let me visualize the above amounts.

As ragatskynet suggested, spreadsheets are the most obvious choice, and the fact that I can "complicate them to the level [I] want" should allow me to plot the above amounts as I need, but I was trying to find a more elegant way to do this than using excel.

I will be looking into the other suggestions. stevekemp's seems to be just what I need.

bluepanda_··on Tell HN: Looking to build my portfolio. Will design for cheap.
Learning front-end coding can not only increase your chances of getting hired, but it can also broaden your perspective of web design.
bluepanda_··on Tell HN: Looking to build my portfolio. Will design for cheap.
Can you code in HTML/CSS/JavaScript? Or do you only design mockups?
bluepanda_··on Ask HN: How many hours of sleep are you getting?
I got the Fitbit One. You have to manually tell it you're about to sleep and you just woke up, then it tells you how long you stayed in bed, how many times you woke up, and how much deep sleep you had.

Based on that, I averaged that I needed 8 hours of in-bed time to get 7 hours of deep sleep, and then I had no need for the device anymore. Until my sleep patterns change.

bluepanda_··on Poll: HN Linux users, what desktop environmemt do you use?
I have the exact same config, without urxvt. Awesome is great. Really lightweight and fast, like Arch, actually.
bluepanda_··on Kevin Rose interviews Elon Musk [video]
"I wasn't sure if that meant starting a company of if that meant working for a company that makes cool stuff," so I did both and started a company that makes cool stuff. Nbd, guys.
bluepanda_··on Rich desktop app for HTML/CSS authoring
It looks great, but isn't it risky to force people use an IDE? A lot of developers like to work in their own environment.
bluepanda_··on Eighteen months of Django
Interesting post. I decided to use Django for our startup because Python was a requirement, we're planning to have a lot of customers, and Django seems like the most appropriate choice for large scale apps. While I've mostly used non-rel databases, I'll be using postgresql as a database, because it seems to be highly compatible with Django, because Heroku makes scaling it easy, and because it's a good occasion to learn some RDBMS.
bluepanda_··on Interviewing in Silicon Valley
I've seen so many posts about interview rants, including one I wrote myself, that I feel like the problem lies in the higher demand than supply of positions, and that interviews, not matter what bad feedback they seem to give, aren't that poorly designed.
bluepanda_··on On Window Managers
Thanks :)
bluepanda_··on On Window Managers
I'll keep that in mind in the future. I thought the HN audience didn't only include knowledgeable developers.
bluepanda_··on On Window Managers
Developers who haven't done their research properly?
bluepanda_··on On Window Managers
It looks about as configurable. Zephyros uses coffescript instead of JavaScript, but then again, that's close enough.
bluepanda_··on Ask HN: How many hours of sleep are you getting?
I have an average of 7 hours of deep sleep, as confirmed by my newly acquired sleep tracker. I generally feel well-rested and able to use my brain at its maximum.
bluepanda_··on On Window Managers
Medium didn't pay me to post this article on HN. I'm its author and I figured it could help some people.

Anyway. How is it not a good article? Is it obvious for people to use window managers? Is everybody aware of their existence? Was Medium not the right place to post it?

bluepanda_··on On Window Managers
Well that's straight to the point, thank you. (But not very constructive)
bluepanda_··on On Window Managers
Is that sarcasm? Was such a post really not appropriate for digital productivity?
bluepanda_··on Ask HN: How did you make your first $10,000?
How did you eat?
bluepanda_··on Obsession
I love these poems, they're such a great motivational reading.
