bluecheese452··on Improper redaction reveals Google Data Center water and electricity usage
He won’t toe the official line. You will always get a vague claim of being “problematic” if you don’t challenge the status quo.
bluecheese452··on Improper redaction reveals Google Data Center water and electricity usage
We have perfectly good reasons to hide behind shell companies and ndas! Anyone who disagrees is a hater!
bluecheese452··on Improper redaction reveals Google Data Center water and electricity usage
Or to shift blame and hide wrongdoing.
bluecheese452··on Improper redaction reveals Google Data Center water and electricity usage
You have some very motivated people with deep pockets who do not like negative press. Say anything negative and the downvotes will roll in.
bluecheese452··on Improper redaction reveals Google Data Center water and electricity usage
If everything was on the up and up they wouldn’t be hiding things behind shell companies and ndas. The water and electric usage is the least of our worries. These things will make cancer alley look like a Sunday picnic. There is a reason executives won’t live anywhere near the hot zone.
bluecheese452··on The Escalation of War in Ethiopia
There is an inverse relationship between capital punishment and how advanced a country is. People who spread nonsense like this should be put to death.
bluecheese452··on I Quit OpenAI Because Its Culture Is Broken
You do not in fact see what they are saying. Downvoting me won’t change this.
bluecheese452··on The Legend of von Neumann (1973) [pdf]
So it has brought to my attention that mentioning his ethnicity is inappropriate and worthy of flagging.

Since the article does that it should be flagged and this discussion should not be taking place.

bluecheese452··on The Legend of von Neumann (1973) [pdf]
Flag the article then. They were the ones who mentioned he was jewish.
bluecheese452··on The Legend of von Neumann (1973) [pdf]
Apparently it is fine that the article mentioned he was jewish at the start but when I did it was beyond the pale.

I was hoping maybe someone would have some insight, maybe there is an intellectual tradition, maybe there are some special schools, maybe there are other reasons why jews in the 20th century seemed to have some strong intellectual achievement.

Or maybe I am just a jewish supremacist/antisemite. Hard to keep track which one I am supposed to be.

bluecheese452··on The Legend of von Neumann (1973) [pdf]
Antisemitic? The article specifically mentioned he was jewish at the start. I said jews seem to be pretty good intellectually. (Einstein came to mind).

How are you twisting that to be antisemitic?

bluecheese452··on The Legend of von Neumann (1973) [pdf]
Because that was literally mentioned in the opening paragraph. Jfc hn. Take it up with the article not me.
bluecheese452··on Micron CEO Says Memory Supply Will Be Much Tighter in 2027 and 2028 Than in 2026
There is no competition, only the illusion of it. All these big companies and owners are already invested in each other. If you have the multiple billions needed to build your own chip fab you are already getting a slice of the current pie. Why undercut yourself?
bluecheese452··on How Singapore's government-run dating service works
It is important to remember governments aren’t living things with their own agency. The people at the top running the governments are usually all dead in 30 years tops. They have no long term incentives. Put them in charge of a dating app and they will run it to enrich themselves just like all the other ones.
bluecheese452··on How Singapore's government-run dating service works
selling the illusion of a chance is just as good
bluecheese452··on What About Rails?
Do you have 100% trust in all devs you work with?

Most code just has to be good enough.

bluecheese452··on Dutch governments builds alternative for Microsoft based on NixOS
Yup when courts no longer work at some point we go back to settling disputes the old fashion way. Lawyers and courts were the compromise because the old way can get pretty ugly, but it looks like we are going to have to relearn that lesson.
bluecheese452··on Jensen Huang says the junior developer problem ends in two years
Several technologies have made us far worse off.

bluecheese452··on Jensen Huang says the junior developer problem ends in two years
With the massive layoffs there have been massive spikes of suicides and od deaths that will only get worse. Articles like this are simply trying to cover it up.
bluecheese452··on 28% of job postings on company career sites have been open over 90 days
I did that with one of the faangs. Congrats you passed hiring committee! Oops no open roles!

2 months later recruiter from the same company hit me up. Told them I already passed the interview just give me the job already. Oops no roles, you just have to wait! So why are you reaching out? Couldn’t give me an answer.

bluecheese452··on 28% of job postings on company career sites have been open over 90 days
You are being downvoted but hn is really bad about this. One company posted an advert for their “third engineer” for literally years.

bluecheese452··on 28% of job postings on company career sites have been open over 90 days
That is point, these are fake roles.
bluecheese452··on 28% of job postings on company career sites have been open over 90 days
This is so out of touch
bluecheese452··on People hooked on vapes try a new way to quit: cigarettes
The data is pretty clear. The existence of outliers does not change this.
