bluSCALE4··on Ear muscle we thought humans didn't use activates when people listen hard
Now more than ever.
bluSCALE4··on Israel, Hamas reach ceasefire deal to end 15 months of war in Gaza
I don't know why this is downvoted. Do people not realize Gaza was razed to the ground?
bluSCALE4··on Working with The Associated Press to provide fresh results for the Gemini app
Google, what we really want are ads.
bluSCALE4··on I've acquired a new superpower
Neat, the colors only blade when perfectly aligned.
bluSCALE4··on WSDA, USDA announce eradication of northern giant hornet from the United States
Great, pesticides next.
bluSCALE4··on Overweight overtakes tobacco smoking as the leading disease risk factor in 2024
We should be looking at eating poorly as well.
bluSCALE4··on Alzheimer's study shows ketone bodies help clear misfolded proteins
I don't think daily fasting heals the body. I believe it has to be multi-day. The Fasting Cure by Upton Sinclair was a nice introduction to the topic for me.
bluSCALE4··on Willow, Our Quantum Chip
How are you so sure? If something that takes years is completed in minutes, how is encryption safe?
bluSCALE4··on Willow, Our Quantum Chip
Why is no one else talking about this? I came here to see a discussion about this and encryption.
bluSCALE4··on AI helps researchers dig through old maps to find lost oil and gas wells
Guess I don't mean all ancestors, mainly talking about multi-generational wealth here.
bluSCALE4··on AI helps researchers dig through old maps to find lost oil and gas wells
People should be confronted and shamed if their ancestors did this and they won't do right by them.
bluSCALE4··on AI helps researchers dig through old maps to find lost oil and gas wells
Though headlines like these annoy me since we, the people, are being pressured to change our way of life when there are bigger fish to fry, I'm glad we trying to fix things within our control. Things like this shouldn't even be studied, they should be addressed aggressively and fixed so we can get a clearer picture of what we as individuals are responsible for.
bluSCALE4··on The Salvadoran government has 5,940 bitcoins worth $582M
God you're dense. Who said I visited El Salvador? Even if I did, judge much? Are you on the way to jump off a cliff because of the arms we're gifting Israel?
bluSCALE4··on The Salvadoran government has 5,940 bitcoins worth $582M
The secret isn't that El Salvador is breaking human rights law, the secret is that El Salvador is an amazing place to visit and it won't break the bank. I can say first hand that Mexico and Ecuador have become sketchy; you can't feel completely safe anywhere IMO in those countries.
bluSCALE4··on Malware can turn off webcam LED and record video, demonstrated on ThinkPad X230
I just tested this with Voice Memo and can confirm it works at least in that scenario. The recording didn't stop, the mic was just disconnected then reconnected when lid was opened. Using Amphetamine w/ script installed on M1.
bluSCALE4··on ICC issues warrants for Netanyahu, Gallant, and Hamas officials
This is exciting. Is there precedence for this? What should we expect?
bluSCALE4··on Weight-loss drug found to shrink muscle in mice, human cells
Really just meant it kills you if you plan on using it as a lifelong solution. I don't have an obesity problem but if I did, this is one of those drugs I'd journal about daily to keep track of how it's affecting me.
bluSCALE4··on Weight-loss drug found to shrink muscle in mice, human cells
Most kill you. If I didn't misread articles on ozempic, they can cause digestive problems where food rots in your stomach. Bad depression was another side effect which blows my mind since you'd think looking better would make you feel great. And these were the minor things.
bluSCALE4··on Windows 365 Link is a $349 mini PC that streams Windows from the cloud
This seems like a low value proposition. They claim think Xbox so it’ll depend just how powerful a machine you get.
bluSCALE4··on Netflix buffering issues: Boxing fans complain about Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson
Looks like shit for me. Buffered a bit as well.
bluSCALE4··on How I ship projects at big tech companies
Articles like these really speak to me. In a lot of ways, developers that claim to take ownership might be a few small cognitive steps from actual ownership aka have shipping in mind. Lots of take aways to prevent headaches and pain points.
bluSCALE4··on Ambulance hits cyclist, rushes him to hospital, then sticks him with $1,800 bill
The ground is inevitable. Cars and people in a rush are not.
bluSCALE4··on Ask HN: Is patio11's salary negotiation guide relevant in today's market?
Trump created huge delays and people I worked with that went on vacation were stuck in India. Lots of companies were put on notice for abusing H1B and legitimate candidates were impacted.

The issues was never the quantity, it’s been the quality. I believe companies like Deloitte had created corruption pipelines where money got you on the path to H1B.

bluSCALE4··on Ask HN: Is patio11's salary negotiation guide relevant in today's market?
In the past I would have said "this" but I've seen a lot of people declining good offers for better ones that never materialized. Be careful playing chicken if you can't afford to.
bluSCALE4··on Ask HN: Is patio11's salary negotiation guide relevant in today's market?
Not sure but if Trump wins and turns H1B visas on its head again, we might see a reversal.
bluSCALE4··on M4 MacBook Pro
Yeah, better than the glaring, 10x better than i7 Intel Mac. Like that's even a valid point of reference.
bluSCALE4··on ADHD and managing your professional reputation
Funny you say that. I always describe my job as fun. Just have to have the main product manager in your corner.
bluSCALE4··on ADHD and managing your professional reputation
No, it's not suggesting the bare minimum. It's asking the person to openly do what can be proven to provide the best value as long as the missed administrative tasks or fails are down-playable enough to not damage your reputation. This is a very easy framework for me to funnel my thought process through.

Recently, I've been in the position where I'm the only one taking ownership of new work and initiatives, sometimes to my own detriment. For example, I took on a feature that required an entire validation system be put in place. Though I succeeded in successfully completing the system, the feature was not fully complete. The validation system was not visible. Though if leverage, it would lighten everyones load, it largely went unnoticed and what was observed was that I pushed out a buggy feature. Though I resolved the bugs within a sprint, my reputation was damaged to the point where I took on a new feature and promised it would be done in a sprint. I succeeded but wasn't able to complete it due to the api team only finishing 2-3 of 8 apis. This sort of test I made for myself also had low visibility so even though it was an impressive feat by my team's efforts, it also largely went unnoticed.

Though the author is wrong to equate work-throughput with IQ, he's right to find a way to inform trusted management with this work ethic and he's right to make sure when high value tasks are taken on, that it be made clear to product so credit can be given.

I have team members that are doing the bare minimum but cross lots of t's and dot many i's and that gets them equal recognition as me who often misses deadlines but does lots of heavy lifting.

bluSCALE4··on Concerns raised over Bitwarden moving further away from open source
When you enabled the browser plugin, it would completely cover the input box, preventing you from using basic browser functionality meant to prevent you from using an alternative while it's enabled.
bluSCALE4··on Concerns raised over Bitwarden moving further away from open source
I left Bitwarden as soon as they started using dark patterns in their UI. They got in the way instead of enhancing the user experience.
