bloppe··on You said no MCP
> The way we like to think about MCP at this point is that it should be much closer to OpenAPI with intelligent tool discovery.

So, exactly like OpenAPI?

bloppe··on UnoDOS
I guess it makes sense to just start a project "entirely in x86 assembly" if you never intend to read any of the code (although we should probably still be editing some of the generated Markdown...)
bloppe··on Show HN: NSL – WSL for Linux
CVEs for runc are much more frequent than CVEs for KVM. The attack surface area is bigger, and containers were never intended as a security boundary, but rather as a resource management tool.
bloppe··on 13 Months Sober (2025)
Do you have a source for your assertion that starting businesses is becoming less popular? I thought there was a huge surge since the pandemic / AI.

I think "risk-seeking behavior" is the wrong way to categorize declining trends. It seems more like "dopamine-seeking behavior" to me, and my armchair theory is that it's related to the infinite scroll. Everybody gets so much dopamine from their phones all the time that they don't feel nearly as compelled to go out and flirt with strangers or get blasted on drugs. The iPad kids now in their 20s must have a totally different relationship with dopamine, for better or worse.

I don't think there is any good historical data on dopamine sensitivity vs. "risk-seeking behavior" on a large scale. My hypothesis is that technological / cultural innovations that raise everybody's dopamine baselines (lowering sensitivity) may be able to explain historical shifts in alcohol consumption and related activities.

bloppe··on Don't couple your Go code to GitHub
In this example, the old namespace is perfectly fine. The issue is the hosting provider. The point is that you can (and probably should) decouple the namespace from the hosting provider.
bloppe··on The Implications of Linguistic Illegibility for LLM Security
I thought this was about all the illegible jargon
bloppe··on Anthropic boss Dario Amodei calls for AI development to slow down
Hell I'd do it
bloppe··on The EPA is planning to scrap public review rules for data center pollution
Your fixation on "injustice" makes your point unfalsifiable. Any rebellion could be construed as righteous or treasonous. The point is that people really do take up arms against the govt all the time, and that fact has historically had major effects on the conduct of police and politicians
bloppe··on The EPA is planning to scrap public review rules for data center pollution
You can't be a feudal lord if you're forced to accept razor-thin margins (assuming they're positive at all) due to relentless competition
bloppe··on The EPA is planning to scrap public review rules for data center pollution
This doesn't make any sense. Americans wield guns against the government literally every day. Usually it's not very widespread or organized, but sometimes it is. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rebellions_in_the_Unit...
bloppe··on The EPA is planning to scrap public review rules for data center pollution
You can't hike up the price on open-weight frontier models. It's a commodity.
bloppe··on OpenAI’s Navier-Stokes release included a Lean 4 formal proof
Most people do, so the literal interpretation matters a lot
bloppe··on What will our economic future look like?
But what's the point of holding something accountable here? Creating an incentive for them to take your needs seriously? Why does an incentive matter if you already know that one has a superior expected outcome?
bloppe··on What will our economic future look like?
How about just abolish poverty, so everyone is rich
bloppe··on What will our economic future look like?
This is the same faulty standard you constantly hear applied to self-driving cars, where human lives are also often at stake. You don't need the AI to be perfect. You just need it to be substantially better than the average human (which self-driving cars are). Your nurse who's caring for 15 patients at once might not make perfect decisions either. That doesn't categorically disqualify humans from delivering health care
bloppe··on What will our economic future look like?
No worries. The US can totally just sanction China into giving up on AI research.
bloppe··on What will our economic future look like?
It is systemic due to baumol
bloppe··on We have a year to fix security everywhere
We're talking about reporting breaches, not giving yourself some sort of abstract security score
bloppe··on Watch Los Angeles get built, one building at a time (1880–2026)
I've never heard anybody say anything like that when criticizing prop 13. It usually has more to do with housing prices and the fact that 2 people with the same home value should pay the same in property taxes. If you wanted to create a hereditary landed gentry, it would be hard to come up with a better policy to achieve that than prop 13.
bloppe··on An Alien Mind
Lying to the bad guys to save the good guys sounds great. Too bad everybody thinks that they are the good guys.
bloppe··on An Alien Mind
I have a pretty poor world model
bloppe··on Making a Python interpreter in 1024 bytes
By that standard, this is totally over-engineered. Just hardcode it.
bloppe··on Show HN: GET Together – A social network where you don't need POST to Post
People seem to be throwing around the term "break out" pretty loosely. I wouldn't consider abiding by the rules of the sandbox a "break out".
bloppe··on “Next-token predictor” is the wrong mental model for LLMs
I think a better simplistic analogy would be that humans are progeny-maximizers. Optimization problems can give rise to all sorts of interesting behaviors but the simplistic perspective is also useful and interesting in both cases
bloppe··on EFF to Governor Newsom: Veto California's AB 1709
Are cigarettes banned?
bloppe··on Apple caught off guard by AI demand for Mac Mini and Mac Studio
Companies that ignore everything besides their legacy cash cow tend to go downhill. I'm sure there are at least a few people at Apple who's main concern is marketing the Mac mini, and those people are highly definitely trying to cook up new marketing strategies all the time
bloppe··on What we want is a hunter gatherer lifestyle with space age tools (2022)
True, but also small town life sure isn't for everyone. Megacities exist because a lot of people actually like living in them.
bloppe··on What we want is a hunter gatherer lifestyle with space age tools (2022)
I feel like you can have both. A big society with industry and laws and markets etc. and a circle of like 10-50 people that you consider close. That's basically how I see my own life.
bloppe··on Don't use musl if you care about performance
This is only one aspect of "performance". glibc's allocator may be faster, but it also uses more memory.
