It's pretty insane. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/ny-times-bombshell-d...

Remember how they were talking about Biden's son being on the Burisma board for or something? That was literally a corner of a peanut compared to the corruption we have now. MAGA? Is this great?

"But the disagreement ultimately has less to do with objective criteria—such as the effects of climate change in Europe, which is warming twice as fast as the global average—than subjective questions about what constitutes an acceptable level of physical suffering and sacrifice."

In a way does this study try to detract from the public backlash against datacenters?

Look at the author of the blog.

https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/author/joshparker/

Is this NVIDIA lawyer trying to influence the public perception of datacenter for his company?

What are the best open source IDE alternatives to Cursor? There was Continue for a bit but Cursor bought it. Is Visual Code by itself the only open source IDE atm? My main gripe with Visual Code is it doesn't make it easy to use open weight models or non Copilot model APIs. Continue helped but its now part of Cursor.

As for coding in the terminal, we have Opencode, Claude Code, and Codex etc. They are all open source but only Opencode can route to open weight models. But non of these are really an IDE like Visual Code or Cursor.

Are we missing a really good open source IDE to use open weight models? It seems like we are.

The graphic seems vague and not particularly revealing.

Does anyone know if they have looked at how charging quickly impacts the longevity of the battery? Can the cells be damaged by the rapid increase in temperature and current?

Everyone watch out for other indices like CRSP US Total Market Index, which trade as the ETF VTI and mutual fund VTSAX.

There are countless other indices that are not well known to request seasoning time of these mega companies.

Shifting to S&P 500 seems prudent at the point. Besides S&P does anyone know which indices will be safe from these IPOs?

I think one thing the author overlooked in the solutions/hedging section is using open weight models. Enterprises need to be ready to use their own servers for inference and build pipelines to utilize non proprietary models when possible.

We all know the president and those close to him are making these bets. The question is are lawmakers willing to collectively take action to stop this practice?

It might not be needed though if you have a battery generator and enough solar panels.

But if you have a BBQ with propane and the sun didn't shine for many many days that should be sufficient.

The Earth's climate is further out of balance than at any time in recorded history, the UN's weather agency has warned.

The World Meteorological Organization says that our planet is gaining much more heat energy than it can release, driven by emissions of warming gases such as carbon dioxide.

We consume 101 million barrels of oil per day. The amount of oil humans consume per day has doubled since 1980. Is this the way we finally wake up to the urgency of addressing the climate crisis caused by burning fossil fuels?

These promos should be based on when more renewable energy is available for inference not when less people are likely to be using the AI. We need to adjust usage to when supply is more renewable for both training and inference in order to better protect our grid and the planet.

Why was this flagged? I don’t get it.

How much do drones like the one shot down cost? Will taxpayers be getting a refund?

Beyond its role in climate change, elevated concentrations of CO₂ pose a direct physiological threat to human health, ranging from inflammation to respiratory stress. The Trump presidency is trying to protect coal and oil for some reason. Money, lobbying, bribery anyone?

We need to look past the political noise and focus on the immediate data: CO₂ is a pollutant that harms human physiology. Regardless of where you stand on climate policy, we should all agree that breathing toxic air is unacceptable. We need to prioritize respiratory health and cognitive safety above partisan loyalty

Are you able to find it on Google Maps? Having a hard time locating it.

"Based on the results of this study, the Taklamakan Desert, although only around its rim, represents the first successful model demonstrating the possibility of transforming a desert into a carbon sink," Yung said.

The best part of learning a language is being able to build connections with real people. It's about being vulnerable — learning to take chance — to embrace being uncomfortable. Somehow the uncertainty and vulnerability with other people ends up being one of the most enjoyable parts of learning a language. Taking that chance and getting to know what it's like to communicate with another person across the unknown.

What makes learning a language so wonderful is being, "Lost in Translation."

I understand people not wanting to follow the news lately and the inclination in just tuning it out. But some things you can't tune out because by tuning it out the conditions of the world can deteriorate from our complacency.

How sad is it to see the US position as a leader building alliances completely fall apart under the current administration? Pretty heartbreaking. The news today about sums up the disappointment.

"Prime Minister Mark Carney, speaking to reporters in Beijing on Friday after making a preliminary deal with China on a range of issues, said Canada’s relationship with the U.S. is 'more multi-faceted' and much deeper than Canada's relationship with China — but noted that ties with China have become more predictable in recent months."

The answer is actually less technology. More in person community is the solution.

How do you get people to talk to each other again? It has to come through forming community groups that can meet and enjoy life together in the real world. It also can come from meet with a shared purpose to advance common causes that make the community and the world slightly better.

But what surprises me most in this entire debate is how little we talk about the biological cost of CO₂ itself. We focus so much on the globalized damage to the climate that we’ve overlooked the direct, physiological tax that combustion is levying on our bodies. For some reason conservative governments want us to continue to trade our atmospheric oxygen for carbon dioxide through the burning fossil fuels. I wrote more about this topic on substack:

Such terrible waste of technology and environmental resources. Gotta be a better way. Maybe no vaping and some sort of paper patches instead?

This made me really nostalgic about mIRC. I miss Dalnet. The colors of IRC. How fast and reliable it was. The rankings of members and trying to build credibility with the community to move up in the channel.

Fun times.

This is to appease the current US administration running the federal government that for some odd reasons is abhorrent to the idea of using cheap, cleaner renewable energy and battery storage to decarbonize our air and grid.

Renewables and battery storage energy are unstoppable. Why take nuclear risk when you can get more than enough from solar, wind, and geothermal coupled with battery storage?

It makes sense to see the number of questions decline over time as people google questions and get results. It would be interesting to look at the number of comments and views of questions over time to see if that has declined as LLMs have driven declining engagement and discussion.

This post is kind of sad. It feels like he's advocating for human depopulation since the trajectory aligns with horse populations declining by 93% also.

Have we ever fully realized the lessons of the "Pale blue dot" photo? When will we stop the wasteful fighting and over-consumption and finally embrace a cohesive sustainable lifestyle together to protect the only life we know of in the universe.
