blizdiddy··on Sovereign Tech Agency invests €500k in Flatpak
Flatpak is great for installing, but as a happy Aurora user, it’s annoying and it breaks things all the time. Every desktop app i use has some broken feature. Sandboxes as another permissions panel suck. Simple browser-like permissions that allow prompted overwrite would be WAY better!

Now i have media organizer programs that deletes my files if i try to write on a networked drive. Games that can’t see the controller. Chat apps that can’t see attachments. Music app that can’t save at all. Good luck accessing any binary and using it in a script.

blizdiddy··on The Productivity Mirage
Yeah dude. If he spent more time complaining on forums instead of lobbying against regulation meant to protect children from his own abusive platform, the world would be better. Take your puritan work ethic and shove it.
blizdiddy··on The Productivity Mirage
It sucks how much of the world is built by people who glorify putting in 6 days and 4 nights a week, then put that effort towards stuff like Facebook. It’s so uncool to be critical thinking at all with these types. Accept the mission statement at face value and get paid.
blizdiddy··on Ask HN: What Linux distro do you daily drive?
Aurora OS and Bazzite. Flathub crap happens, but I’ve never had so much confidence in my Linux machine. It has the windows or Mac quality that i can trust it to boot into a real desktop environment after any update. No more booting to a broken terminal session with no means of googling or real recovery
blizdiddy··on The Doctor Who Treats Patients with a Gaming Mouse
Jcenters, whoever you are, kill this awful website. It reflows the width on scroll, the top bar occupies 1/5 of my phone, nobody wants whatever the fucking AI expanded blog slop you are selling.

This isn’t clever, it’s just annoying.

blizdiddy··on Green card seekers must leave U.S. to apply, Trump administration says
I’m tired of people acting so naive past the point of zip-tying entire apartment buildings and building concentration camps. White supremacist manners and politeness are disgusting.
blizdiddy··on Googlebook
All of society is heading towards an incredibly unpopular future. Nobody wants this. Tech was a mistake. I wish them all failure and shame. Feel bad and quit
blizdiddy··on Today I've made the difficult decision to reduce the size of Coinbase by ~14%
I forgot that all criticism is reserved for… Nazis? Chill

Have some empathy for the misled retail investor that gambled their savings to thieves?

blizdiddy··on Today I've made the difficult decision to reduce the size of Coinbase by ~14%
Nah, they are adults. Labor should make way more decisions, but they knew what they were doing and for who.
blizdiddy··on Today I've made the difficult decision to reduce the size of Coinbase by ~14%
I usually feel bad for laid off engineers, but these guys profited off of pump and dump wealth-funneling to the rich. Sucks to suck. They all played a part in normalizing scams.
blizdiddy··on Maine's governor vetoes data center moratorium
Our system is designed so there is always a politician who folds for big business. The rest all hem and haw until it’s their turn to take the fall. They spread out the evil, we vote for lesser evils, and we all condemn extremism. Democracy.
blizdiddy··on We spoke to the man making viral Lego-style AI videos for Iran
The only thing any of that has to do with the US is that the US backed that theocracy! We cannot unilaterally violate all international law and sovereignty without Congress and our allies… that’s obvious though so what are you talking about?
blizdiddy··on GLM-5.1: Towards Long-Horizon Tasks
Is it so hard to project out a couple product cycles? Computers get better. We’ve gone from $50k workstation to commodity hardware before several times
blizdiddy··on An update on Steam / GOG changes for OpenTTD
We know what the law is… the law is bullshit.

Is it easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism?

blizdiddy··on Show HN: Dumped Wix for an AI Edge agent so I never have to hire junior staff
I can’t tell cringe AI-bubble business pivots from AI psychosis anymore
blizdiddy··on An update on Steam / GOG changes for OpenTTD
Agreed. Publishers need to be knocked off this absurd moral high ground. If merely being rich is enough for me to profit off of Miles Davis songs for decades after his death, copyright is just another wealth redistribution to the rich. Steal all the games and music, and any ghoul that claims I’m stifling creativity can compare their compositions to mine.
blizdiddy··on Nvidia NemoClaw
Running OpenClaw is the nerd equivalent of rolling coal
blizdiddy··on Despite doubts, federal cyber experts approved Microsoft cloud service
Emergency notifications are done the same way! Its communism to fucking build it, so let’s have a team of a few engineers make an API to control government infrastructure from incompetent contractors on AWS, offer no real means of testing, breaking changes, downtime… and folks wonder why Hawaii is told bombs are coming
blizdiddy··on Living human brain cells play DOOM on a CL1 [video]
Animal testing, weapons testing, medical trials, cloning, psychological experiments… had you just never considered them before? Why this?
blizdiddy··on Show HN: First Claude Code client for Ollama local models
Gpt-oss is natively 4-bit, so you kinda can
blizdiddy··on Just Get a Better Job
Wow, it’s almost like having health insurance tied to employers creates a giant obstacle to pursuing less exploitative opportunities.
blizdiddy··on Everyone hates OneDrive, Microsofts cloud app that steals and deletes files
Mcafee for iPhone has 5 stars. iBeer has 5 stars. Every app in a search of “DMV” has five stars. Every “gpt” ai clone app has 5 stars.
blizdiddy··on Are consumers just tech debt to Microsoft?
The “CTO” at my small employer used this book to explain why we needed to stick with Perl and Oracle 9i in 2020.
blizdiddy··on Being poor vs. being broke
Poor people don’t have control of their situation. You are literally victim blaming and surprised that rubs people the wrong way. Victim blaming is rude, offering your flippant two cents is rude. There, your ideas are challenged, rather than tone police go think about it.
blizdiddy··on Being poor vs. being broke
You should feel embarrassed for “thinking” so callously and uncritically. Do you need everything handed to you? Family issues, natural disasters, medical events, house fires, abuse, wage theft, fate. I’ve worked with the destitute, there is no safety net.
blizdiddy··on Claude Code on the web
So what is your thesis? The tools keep getting better, so that’s some kind of gotcha that the emporer has no clothes? Some people prefer the absolute latest and greatest so people on the previous gen were all fakers making Pelican svgs?

Maybe the productive thing is actually to ignore naysayers and goalpost movers and use the tools.

You aren’t enlightened for not liking a tool. “Oh, hammers? Absolutely a bubble, after all they never fixed the hit-your-thumb issue i blogged about, and nail guns just let you hurt your thumbs faster”

blizdiddy··on Behind the scenes of Bun Install
And how many dependencies does Hono have? Looks like about 26. And how many dependencies do those have?

A single static zig executable isn’t the same as a a pipeline of package management dependencies susceptible to supply chain attacks and the worst bitrot we’ve had since the DOS era.

blizdiddy··on Behind the scenes of Bun Install
I used bun for the first time last week. It was awesome! The built-in server and SQLite meant i didn’t need any dependencies besides bun itself, which is certainly my favorite way to develop.

I do almost all of my development in vanilla js despite loathing the node ecosystem, so i really should have checked it out sooner.

blizdiddy··on How often do health insurers say no to patients? (2023)
More people are employed by health insurance than healthcare. Insurance is the waste.
blizdiddy··on ML needs a new programming language – Interview with Chris Lattner
I’d prefer to not touch a hot stove twice. Telling me what processors I can use is Oracle- level rent seeking, and it should be mocked just like Oracle.
