blargthorwars··on Hyundai Paywalls Brake Pads replacement on Ioniq 5 N
It's gotten easier, frankly, nowadays, because 95% of the time there's a YouTube video to walk you through.

My 16-year-old did a complete front brake service that way. The only thing I had to help with was pumping the brakes for the bleed.

Saw that with Pontiac Vibe (Toyota-made) reviews.

You're absolutely correct. A better name would be "The Farmer Was Augmented <emdash> By Your Friendly AI" <emoji "happy"> <emoji "friednship">
blargthorwars··on Over $70T of inherited wealth over next decade will widen inequality, economists
No money is a bit of hyperbole, but fundamentally, nobody really wants to work hard for the exclusive benefit of everybody else.

Greed is an innate human trait.

Just Christians. Their fate is to die in obscurity.

Without a vigorous patron like the UAE or Israel, you won't get any sympathy from the 'press.'

Just because we're warmongers doesn't mean the dictators in VZ are good people.

They're shipping poison that kills our people to our country, so I'm ok with them getting what they deserve.

Reports of violent crime are 36% down from the recent COVID-19 era peak, but are still above 2018 rates.

Starlink is crazy profitable. Source: Son has SpaceX stock and sees the audited financial reports in a locked room in Redmond.

The Eiffel Tower never used to have metal detectors for visitors. Why do you need them now? What's changed?
blargthorwars··on It's just a virus, the E.R. told him – days later, he was dead
This is precisely the thing that LLMs are great for: spicy auto-complete.

Europe is buying billions of Russian gas and petrochemicals.

It's easy to demand that other people be generous with their resources.

We make it hard on ourselves: With spare change, we could house every homeless person in a tent in a temperate environment in a remote location.

Instead, we house a tiny few in nice apartments in high COL cities.

blargthorwars··on Shiller PE Ratio
There are some good p/e companies with a dividend. Toyota for example.

>Then why are they not doing it?

Because ASMR is doing fine by keeping its stuff out of the hands of the Chinese Communist Party.

blargthorwars··on Restrictions on house sharing by unrelated roommates
Rather than just lambast the people in the past for being stupid, it's often wise to think on why they did what they did.

In this case, the article contains the reason:

"as SROs disappeared, ... homelessness exploded nationwide."

Looks like SROs weren't being used by scientists and scholors.

blargthorwars··on The PC was never a true 'IBMer'
They nerfed the PCjr with a horrid keyboard to keep the office people from buying it. This is a shame, as it had better color graphics, and we had to wait for XGA (or Tandy 1000) to get better color.

Nobody is worrying about the native English. If they were, they wouldn't have immigrated there.

Why does Egypt get a free pass for just sitting there? Shouldn't they take in Gaza refugees?
blargthorwars··on Americans Are Having Less Sex
People are afraid to flirt at the office to gauge mutual attraction because if it lands flat, there's a perception that HR could be involved. I'm certain that most rebuffed flirting doesn't involve HR when the person takes the hint. Still, nobody is too sure nowadays, especially since we've been generally taught to believe the person who complains.
blargthorwars··on Americans Are Having Less Sex
I'll add some more for both sexes:

Fear of HR violations in the workplace.

A good portion of people are morbidly obese. That hinders attraction and expression.

The modern inability to escape your past, leading to timid behaviour (in many endeavors).

The modern ability to find previous lovers of your partner, leading to jealousy and other emotions.

blargthorwars··on A dark money group is funding high-profile Democratic influencers
I'm a Republican: I think Bernie Sanders actually cares and isn't a lizard person.
blargthorwars··on A dark money group is funding high-profile Democratic influencers
Not really a secret: Conservatives are proping up Newsom so when he makes it through the primary, a wet roll of toilet paper could win against him based on "Don't California America!"

It can backfire. Democrats did it to talkshow-Trump, thinking he'd be easy to crush in the general against stateswoman-Hillary.

blargthorwars··on How Tesla is proving doubters right on why its robotaxi service cannot scale
Robo-taxis can pack significantly more densely into a dedicated parking space than regular cars. Snout to butt and no room side to side, as there's no need for maneuvering. A robo-taxi parking lot just becomes a dense FIFO queue.
blargthorwars··on Babies made using three people's DNA are born free of mitochondrial disease
I'm prolife. Perhaps. You're destroying one human in this process.

Some of us are a bit more comfortable with IVF-like processes because the intent is to foster human life rather than take it, just as it's acceptable to cause an abortion in the process of saving a mother.

blargthorwars··on ACA health insurance will cost the average person 75% more next year
Your peer group consisted of working people who could generally wake up in the morning. Generally healthy people.

Your insured pool now includes people who don't take care of themselves and treat the emergency room like a private doctor's office.

Other countries with government-controlled healthcare introduced wait times to encourage people to consider whether eating that extra donut was worth the health risk. I suspect we'll follow that path, too.
