blakenomad··on IOTA: Cannot be used for IoT, loss of funds may occur
I held IOTA from when it was $0.30 and always kept it on Bitfinex as to me, the wallet was unusable (sorry, I’m not an engineer). I hodl’d until a couple of months ago but couldn’t take having my coins on an exchange.

I even tried setting up the mobile wallet but kept getting errors, like in this post.

I’m over it. But I think you need to see this from a layperson’s point of view. It’s difficult to use and overly complex. Until that changes, I won’t be back.

blakenomad··on Why did we switch from Braintree to Stripe?
Thanks for letting us know 0x0! I've got that disabled now.
blakenomad··on Why did we switch from Braintree to Stripe?
Yep! As we mentioned in the article, it was poor scoping from our part which we 100% own up to. Equally though after pushing on with Stripe after the transition we have found it way more suited to our particular needs.

That's not to say Braintree wouldn't work for others. As we stated, it's an awesome solution and we couldn't fault their support at all.

blakenomad··on Why did we switch from Braintree to Stripe?
My fault there. Noted for next time. :-)
blakenomad··on How to find a remote job
Yep I understand that. The idea with e-residency is you cover your business expenses pretty much exclusively the company card you acquire when you establish your company in Estonia. This covers travel and accommodation primarily.

Everything else I must pay tax on as usual though HMRC. Any cash I want in my UK bank account for example is tax-deductable.

blakenomad··on How to find a remote job
Great question.

I still run all my taxes as if I'm based in the UK, even though I travel and work remotely. I am taxed as an independent contractor.

I'm considering setting up as an Estonian e-resident soon though (https://e-estonia.com/solutions/e-identity/e-residency/) to change where I pay my taxes.

In terms of working while in other countries, it's a grey area for sure. I was travelling extensively in Asia last year and I was on tourist visas. Although I know Thailand for example is considering introducing a 'nomad visa' very soon.

blakenomad··on How to find a remote job
I had the same problem initially. No one would take me on board because of the 'lack of experience'.

A Workaround is to pick up a few freelance gigs on the side using Upwork, Freelancer (or similar) and then leverage that as you have technically been working with clients remotely.

That's how I got around it

blakenomad··on How to find a remote job
Did you switch any of the companies you worked for remotely to clients? Or did you start from scratch?
blakenomad··on How to find a remote job
Most US remote jobs I've seen advertised don't want remote workers that are non-US based. I'd be interested to understand if workers can stray from their timezone once they're embedded in a business though?
blakenomad··on How to find a remote job
Ah thanks for the heads up, changed it.
blakenomad··on How to find a remote job
Awesome response!

Totally agree with you that maybe it doesn't get into the nitty gritty of what it takes. I actually broke this down in the 2nd part of the article (https://www.deekit.com/how-do-i-find-a-remote-job-part-2/).

The point about the global talent pool competition is valid. My thinking on that would be to leverage what you have going for you.

For me, I was an native English speaker wanting to work with an Estonian startup. I had a native language advantage. So there are always ways to get ahead of those you're up again.

Like the idea of offering value before being asked for it!

blakenomad··on Product Hunt Debunked: What have we learnt after 7 launches?
Do you guys agree with the points? Would be eager to hear abou of the learnings you have had too.
blakenomad··on We switched from Braintree to Stripe: How we f*cked up & what we did to fix it.
Totally agree with you! In the article we fully outline why it was purely our own fault. The issue we found was that the decision was made during a pretty formative time in Deekit's past - we weren't 100% convinced which model we were going to run with. We stuck to an initial decision to go with Braintree when we really should have re-evaulated.

Lesson learnt. Hopefully others can avoid the same mistake.

blakenomad··on We switched from Braintree to Stripe: How we f*cked up & what we did to fix it.
Ah have done so! Thanks Nailer.
