blain··on Show HN: Audionaut – an open-source cross-platform multitrack audio editor
My use case is pretty unique I guess and not something you built audionaut for. I do small live gigs in a local place where I sometimes need to operate lights, screen and play music at the same time and need something I can cue things to multiple software/devices through osc, websocket, tcp during music playback. I know there is already software for that but I didn't find anything I could run and quickly operate during the rehearsal before the event.

I was just wondering if you planed to add some features like markers or cue for integrations.

blain··on Show HN: Audionaut – an open-source cross-platform multitrack audio editor
Congrats on the launch!

I tried to built something similar in go and wails but quickly hit roadblock with some critical features that required high time precision.

I wonder if I could use it for my use case, do you have any roadmap?

blain··on DeepSeek Harness Desktop for macOS and Windows
How can website be this slow, i can barelly scroll down on mobile.
blain··on Russian missile strikes take out popular piracy websites
Not sure about taking piracy sites out. 1337x is up with this note:

> Missile strikes on datacenters in Ukraine have knocked multiple servers in our network offline. We are working to restore them.

RIP MiroHost though, I can't image how bad this is for some people.

blain··on Zed DeltaDB
Although I agree and I hit same roadblock I found that wsl is working well when you open the project with special "projects: open folder in WSL" command, see my comment here: https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/discussions/26857#disc...

Nevertheless it could have been working better.

blain··on A PHP server that can handle 10x as many concurrent requests as Nginx+PHP-fpm
I wonder if it would be possible to run Wordpress on this. The issue with Workermen or Swoole is that they doesnt provide request data through globals and some headers are absent which Wordpress is a heavy user of.
blain··on EU to legislate about Chat Control behind closed doors
Does governments have any say in this? If not then most MEPs of mentioned countries are too in favor of Chat Control. This is what it says when you click on one of the 4 countries.
blain··on OneDrive data now has an expiry date
I'm really confused by the article. What the hell does unlicensed mean? Does unlicensed means free (as in free personal onedrive accounts)?
blain··on Bun support is now limited and deprecated
Well, apparently Deno is also a slop now: https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/issues/16766#issuecomment-4...
blain··on Aperio Lang
Seems interesting but the github repos seem private. Github links from the docs dont work.
blain··on AI is making me dumb
> learning new things

I wonder lately, doesn't that all new knowledge push out the old knowledge? As in new things replace old things we know. I don't know any studies on this but do we have infinite capacity for knowledge?

What about retaining it? I catch myself asking AI wondering about random things that pop into my head, reading it, maybe using that knowledge once and later no longer remembering what it was. Maybe if you use that knowledge in practice from the get go but projects get so complicated sometimes it seems like there is not enough space in my brain for things AI is learning me.

blain··on OpenAI will start testing ads in ChatGPT free and Go tiers
> Come on man, putting ads is not enshittification.

Sure man, until ads became unbearable and intrusive. The good old times are gone. This is the future.

blain··on FediMeteo: A €4 FreeBSD VPS Became a Global Weather Service
> German provider with 4 shared cores, 4GB of RAM, 120GB of SSD disk space, and a 1Gbit/sec internet connection

Where on earth did he find €4 VPS with these specs. For example Hetzner's cheapest VPS has 2 shared vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB NVME SSD.

The cheapest I found is https://contabo.com/en/vps/ but it still doesn't have 1 gb/s connection with that price.

Edit: typo

blain··on The Going Dark initiative or ProtectEU is a Chat Control 3.0 attempt
> They're usually liberals

The irony.

Aside from that I also thought EU is more left than right wing right now. Nothing what they try to push this term of office seems right wing to me.

blain··on AI won't use as much electricity as we are told (2024)
I thought you will say a cheaper energy but global warming works too.

Also its called climate change now.

blain··on Zenobia Pay – A mission to build an alternative to high-fee card networks
I usually agree with the sentiment but for some reason this implementation is so smooth on my old laptop I like it.
blain··on Tailwind Is the Worst of All Worlds
I'm sure many still like Tailwind but I never liked it, maybe because I worked with pure CSS or SCSS for many years before it.

In the end its just another library that if you learn it well it will work for you and it has as many downsides as any other library ever used.

By the way the article seems a bit like an advertising for vanilla-extract library.

blain··on Apache NetBeans 25
I still use it occasionally, it was one of my first IDE in first job programming in PHP and was working well. It is free and it had code formatting and built-in language server back in the day where it wasn't a common thing.

It has some issues like chugging memory or language server bugging out in large projects but overall a great IDE and I'm glad its still maintained.

blain··on Grok3 Launch [video]
I'm going to risk it and say you can ignore it, you just have to want and if you need to went go to reddit.

In Poland we have a new affair every month and I don't care. Your country will be fine.

I would also love to see more technical stuff discussed here.

blain··on AMOC shutdown likely within the next 20-30 years
For those like me that don't know what AMOC is [1]:

> The Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) is the main ocean current system in the Atlantic Ocean. It is a component of Earth's ocean circulation system and plays an important role in the climate system. The AMOC includes Atlantic currents at the surface and at great depths that are driven by changes in weather, temperature and salinity. Those currents comprise half of the global thermohaline circulation that includes the flow of major ocean currents, the other half being the Southern Ocean overturning circulation.

blain··on Intel is selling defective 13-14th Gen CPUs
I agree there should be something more specific but in the resources links they provide there is an epic games instructions page [1] to do msinfo for people getting crashes for these specific CPUs, so its no just them saying it.

blain··on WP21
I have worked with themes that used Timber and it has its own set of quirks.

I also have an opinion that using things like Timber in WP themes just adds to the inconsistency instead of helping it. Taking over website with Timber when you never heard of it is fun.

I don't want discourage, use what you like. Just my 2 cents.

blain··on Quill v2 – Rich text editor
This is not obvious from the link but I guess this is posted because of v2 released 3 days ago.

I have been working with Quill v1 not long ago and oh boy it is not good. Pain to make tables work with plugins and weird scrolling issues. Hopefully v2 fixes a lot but I'm sticking with TinyMCE as it is superior in term of features.

blain··on Ask HN: Working with ineffective volunteers at non profit as a solo entrepreneur
Volunteering money doesn't exactly expand social life the op is talking about.

For some social interactions you get from volunteering is why they do it.

blain··on The antitrust trial against Google is starting in September
I switched a while ago to DDG and about a year ago to Startpage and both are good enough.

It was sure hard to get used to because of presumption that Google has better results but after a while you don't care anymore and find what you're looking for anyway.

blain··on Show HN: Payload – Cross-platform desktop app for LAN file transfers
I tried it recently as well as P2P based apps like https://www.sharedrop.io/ but it doesn't work great for large files (> 500MB). The speed decreases the longer the transfer takes.

I have to try if it is the same case with Payload.

blain··on DuckDuckGo “down-rank sites associated with Russian disinformation”
I personally don't like this move but seeing a lot other companies standing against Russia and applying similar "sanctions" makes me think they are doing this just for PR.

I'm absolutely not saying they shouldn't do anything to show support for Ukraine but a simple short sentence or small banner somewhere would be much better instead.

blain··on Pfizer board member suggests end to mask, vaccine mandates
> I rather think of vaccination as a responsibility toward your fellow citizens, rather than a "choice".

I don't understand this argument. Maybe I'm being ignorant or childish but since when do we live in a world that as a person you have to be responsible for "fellow citizens".

Don't get me wrong I don't mean we shouldn't be nice or care about other people but no one owe me anything and I don't owe anybody anything. Don't we all learn that in life at some point?

I get the COVID is dangerous and vaccines help but don't put me responsible for you.

blain··on Update on Omicron
For starters I would want my government to change the narrative. They should do their own independent research and present their own facts. Instead they blindly buy vaccines from US and repeat the agenda as everyone else.

There is way too much politics involved. Pandemic should make people naturally empathic not forced by their governments to blindly obey.
