blahyawnblah··on Google's ChatGPT Competitor Will Have to Wait
Bard has been working really well for me. Creating contexts/hooks for react. Generating fake resumes for some tests. Questions about how the stock market works.
blahyawnblah··on Framework 13 with AMD Ryzen 7040 Series Makes for a Great Linux Laptop
Mine showed up yesterday. So far so good dual booting openSuse and windows.
blahyawnblah··on Framework 13 with AMD Ryzen 7040 Series Makes for a Great Linux Laptop
Seems fine for me
blahyawnblah··on Dockerize a React app
S3 + Cloudfront. Done.
blahyawnblah··on Finding that lead emissions from aircraft engines contribute to air pollution
Do aviation engines required hardened valve seats like automotive engines did for the changeover?
blahyawnblah··on Tell HN: Postman update removes all your stuff if you refuse to create account
I've really been enjoying HTTPie: https://httpie.io/

Postman has long been too bloated to be useful.

blahyawnblah··on Netflix prepares to send its final red envelope
This was me in college also. I remember finding 3rd party or not-quite-matching oem firmware for my pc's dvd drive to speed up reading and burning. I think I had a Pioneer driver, all sorts of stuff was available for it.
blahyawnblah··on Mullvad on Tailscale: Privately browse the web
Privacy and tracking prevention. It can get you access to stuff that's not in your country, depending on the service you're trying to get.
blahyawnblah··on Crowdfunding a defense for scientific research
Would this fall under SLAPP or whatever where you're allowed to recover like 3x damages/costs?
blahyawnblah··on T-Mobile to cut about 7% of workforce, mostly corporate roles
Oh yay. Infinite captcha
blahyawnblah··on Damaging results of mandated return to the office: it’s worse than we thought
I kind of prefer going in to the office. I like talking to people around the water cooler and whatnot. BUT, remote work has definitely allowed me more opportunity than I would have otherwise based on where I live.

I can see how the choice thing would sway people. Maybe if going into the office, you still had the flexibility to go run errands or whatever.

blahyawnblah··on Icanhazip: A simple IP address tool survived a deluge of users (2021)
curl ipinfo.io or ipinfo.io/ip
blahyawnblah··on Farmworkers thought a new overtime law would help them. Now, they want it gone
> farm owners are trying to get people to do something without paying them fairly

The farmers can't raise prices or their produce won't sell. How are you supposed to compete with Peru's wages and prices?

blahyawnblah··on Ask HN: Why does Firefox have such a low market share anyways?
If random websites break, it's because the developer didn't do any testing in Firefox. IIRC Firefox follows standards more closely than Chrome and Chrome has random additional features that aren't standard that can make websites better, e.g YouTube, Google Maps
blahyawnblah··on Ask HN: Why does Firefox have such a low market share anyways?
Firefox's dev tools are much better than Chrome's
blahyawnblah··on Intel exiting the PC business as it stops investment in the Intel NUC
I've had one for about 7 years now that's been my htpc. Nice, little, quiet, and it worked great. Was thinking about upgrading soon. Guess I'll have to figure something else out.
blahyawnblah··on Self-hosted photo and video backups directly from your mobile phone
I set up a nextcloud instance to do the same thing. Works pretty well.
blahyawnblah··on Oregon finally legalizes pumping your own gas
"Safety"

You can pump your own diesel, or your own gas for a motorcycle. But it was for Class 1 (I forget number) flammable liquids

blahyawnblah··on What motorcycles teach about maintenance
Couple years ago I took my friend's XR600 out for a trip. It had been sitting for a year or year and a half. Two kicks and it started. Didn't leak at all.
blahyawnblah··on Reddit’s blackout protest is set to continue indefinitely
Where did you see that?
blahyawnblah··on Microsoft Freezes Salaries for 2023
That doesn't prevent you from trading the stock and making (or losing) money.
blahyawnblah··on Reddit has been down for more than an hour
Yeah, I'm not sure why they haven't been able to sort out their infrastructure issues. Nothing they do is rocket science. Especially these days.

Probably concentrating on IPO and trying to keep the balance sheet tight.

blahyawnblah··on U.S. corn-based ethanol worse for the climate than gasoline, study finds
Octane on its own is an anti-knock additive. And ethanol actually makes your mileage go down because it is less energy dense.
blahyawnblah··on Japanese manhole mass production process [video]
Probably some proprietary part of the process
blahyawnblah··on Apple Music deletes your original songs and replaces them with DRM'd versions
When did they start charging for restoration? Are you doing something other than just downloading it?
blahyawnblah··on 100G-LR4 optic cable teardown
Same here. Is this some feature of Mastodon?
blahyawnblah··on Shopify Is Illegal in Germany
Who in their right mind would not store a visitor's IP address. How are you supposed to handle abuse or performance issues a visitor might have? Or perform analytics?

It makes sense to not store if you're running some kind of privacy service.

blahyawnblah··on Starlink Sets High-Speed Data Cap at 1TB per Month, Lowers Advertised Speeds
I've really only heard of it in areas that actually have a competitor
blahyawnblah··on VirtualBox 7.0 Released – Full VM Encryption Support, New Direct3D Acceleration
Does it work with WSL2 installed and not have terrible performance yet?
blahyawnblah··on Day.js – Fast 2kB alternative to Moment.js with the same modern API
