I don't disagree about the reputability of TFA source though.

blahlabs··on NY Times gets 230 wrong again
That first BBC link loaded the article for me and then threw a 404... what is that about?
blahlabs··on Laptop Ports: Is USB-C only fine, or should I get HDMI,USB,Audio if I need them?
I don't think this is correct either. The USB C port has to support DP Alt Mode, which not all do, but it doesn't have to be a Thunderbolt port.

More than anything this probably highlights what a mess the standards are.

blahlabs··on Singapore OKs 4,300km subsea cable for importing electricity from Australia
It isn't my experience either, having lived in various suburbs in Melbourne since 2012.

Power outages happen, but I've been through maybe half dozen in my time here.

Same with brown outs. Not unheard of but far from common.

Although I spend my days at the office so maybe I miss some things, but equally I get an email if my home UPS activates and that has happened perhaps twice.

blahlabs··on Android "Password Store" client for pass discontinued
On GrapheneOS there is a prompt when installing an app that asks if you would like to grant network access. I am not sure if that pop up displays if network access is added later in an app update though.

Dan Olsen of Folding Ideas on YouTube has a great video about contrepreneurs as a concept.

blahlabs··on Show HN: iFixit created a new USB-C, repairable soldering system
When I first bought mine I tried to adjust the temperature in what felt like the natural way to do so, without rtfm first of course.

Then I quickly learned that I had adjusted the temperature calibration. I reverted what I had done but now I am not confident about the temperature its operating at, at all. Seems a terrible interface design.

blahlabs··on Depression has a consistent mark in the brain even when symptoms are absent
I was really excited about this product until I found out it requires a smartphone, app, active internet connection, and cloud services to work.
blahlabs··on NTP Timelord Dies
I do wonder if that will end up lending the internet almost a mythological/spiritual status. What happens to our relationship to this thing, that already almost no one truly understands how it works, as we get generations away from the people who actually created it?
blahlabs··on Sending audio to LKV373 HDMI extenders (2021)
Not sure if you gave heard of NDI before? Its a broadcast quality low latency protocol for video/audio over 1Gb links
blahlabs··on The Rise and Fall of Skype
The account that runs the Teams Room app is called "Skype", the default admin password is "sfb" (Skype for business), and to edit some settings you need to upload a XML called SkypeSettings.xml.

Lots of Skype remains.

blahlabs··on Why do ships use “port” and “starboard” instead of “left” and “right?”
And in broadcast it can be referred to as 'Camera Left' and 'Camera Right', which is also from the audience perspective.
blahlabs··on Ask HN: What lesser-known accessories do you use with your computer?
I use a Stream Deck daily to control AV production gear using BitFocus Companion (https://bitfocus.io/companion). I am constantly surprised at the range of supported equipment.

Complex operations that used to take three people can be done by a single person.

For a basic example:

Audio operator fades out background music and brings up video playback audio channels Lighting operator puts lighting into video state Video operator switches from holding slide input on screen to video playback input

Is now one button. Same equipment, same production value. One button. Boop. Go.

Admittedly it takes some additional configuration time, but for something like a roadshow where it is the same sequence of actions every day it ends up being a great time saver.

blahlabs··on Google exec fired after female boss groped him at drunken bash, suit says
I'm struggling to see how that would be relevant to the assertion the New York Post is not a credible publication. Seems like whataboutism to me.
blahlabs··on T-Mobile says hacker accessed personal data of 37M customers
Ah I wasn't aware. I was caught up in the breach like pretty much everyone, and was issued a new card with the additional Card Number on the back that I didn't have before, but my licence number stayed the same.

Are you saying I can change my actual license number too? Is this government identity portal you speak of myGovID?

blahlabs··on T-Mobile says hacker accessed personal data of 37M customers
I am not sure if it changes the difficulty of implementing something like this (which is/was undoubtedly a massive task) but the drivers licence number hasn't changed. There is an additional number on the back of the card called the Card Number.
