black_13··on Martin Luther King Jr., American Preacher
https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/why-martin-luther-kin...

“ A day after returning home in December 1964 from a tour whose most important stop was Oslo, the Nobel Laureate for Peace joined a picket line at Atlanta’s Scripto Pen factory, where some 700 workers were striking for better wages for less skilled employees. Though it was a remarkably humble gesture for someone who had received such a lofty affirmation, King’s actions that day and his call for a nationwide boycott of Scripto products won him few friends in his hometown’s white, staunchly anti-union business community.”

black_13··on As unions decline, inequality rises
My salary now adjusted for inflation is exactly where i was in 1999. Having more money in the hands of those not in the 1% would make a better country. The 1% and above engage in deeply risky behavior.

black_13··on The Essential Philip K. Dick
While living Boston the walkup replaced the keyed doors with electronic locks. They never worked. I kept my key to the cellar and would come through the laundry room and occasionally fall in snow and pee myself. That is dystopia. Dick understood what the future would be lots of dangerous gadgets. The gestaltmacher in the novel the penultimate truth.

Texas energy problems are not from technology but from poor governance.

black_13··on Doing too much work on one's own before looping in others
I dont like working with others or rather when I sought out others help I was seen as an impediment to the 10 percent performer. Most organizations reward and the individual scale not group when you tried to work communally you were chastised or all the way punished.
black_13··on The Shameful Decline of Scientific American
I read the magazine through high school as part of UIL competition. I loved it and it continued to be great through the 90s. Its a shadow of its former self.
black_13··on Buy a coal mine, drive a gas guzzler, and other uses of reverse logic
You should by a coal mine and close it. Is equivalent to saying „you should buy the freedom of every slave“. Somethings have to be done at the National level and collectively.
black_13··on Could housing be cheaper and better if we stop building so many staircases?
It would be a lot cheaper if you created mid rise buildings and turning homes into an investment
black_13··on Great engineering teams focus on milestones instead of projects
You know there is no I in team. I couldnt give a shit for team work or working with others even effectively I behave marginally and do enough to get along. I show up on time at meetings say the correct and currently fashionable buzz words but I focus on my own personal education and profitless side projects.
black_13··on Most advice is pretty bad
Advice is free like kittens. Really affecting the outcome of someone elses circumstances costs money and time and very few are willing to do that. Especially when the someone is outside our family or tribe.

black_13··on My parents collect cans for a living
Exactly. And this story will be used to harm. Ppl will say „look they can just get out and collect cans from the side of the road“. I had a high school teacher that vilified ppl on welfare and said this. My parents and my siblings did this and my parents especially my mother and me are scarred by precarity. I hate the these stories they just do harm.
