Nice work! Keep hustling guys.
bksenior··on We're Shutting Down and I'm Scared
THIS! I can't get behind oscarthegrouch who thought it was important to articulate the worst case scenarios in a case like this, because regardless the next steps are the same, but this advice is gold.

Dont get to this point and surprise your partner. She is as much your partner financially as your co-founder, treat her like that from day one.

bksenior··on Stupid Simple Things SF Techies Could Do To Stop Being Hated
People dont change wholesale until they are forced too. The backlash hasnt affected the individuals, only the collective. Until people start to feel unsafe or targeted the only people who will organize improvements will be their employers because public opinion of big companies affect the bottom line.
bksenior··on Kanye West, Startup Idol
sigh... You are a bit naive if you believe that money is the be all end all risk here.

Dave, love your productivity. I'd love to give you a few free pointers on the marketing front. Shoot me a tweet @bksenior and lets talk.
bksenior··on The Decline and Fall of the American Empire (2010)
While I cant say whether this it right or wrong, I find these are articles to be extremely rigid in their determining facts. Just like in the professional world there is a massive difference between becoming an industry player and an extremely dominant company. Through a tech lense, just because snapchat is growing faster than facebook, does not make snapchat Facebook in 2020. The underscoring of the civil growing pains of wealth inequity, western influence amongst consumption, civil unrest and basic quality of life problems (India and China) are never taken into account. Its always, their economy is expanding so given enough time they will win.

In a worse case scenario I see a melding of eastern and western ideals set up against a terrible widening of the wealth inequity. The big sharp edge of a connected economy is that people with power and information asyemtry can now use global communication to economically conquer areas much larger than their immediate reach (list it used to be). The more likely scenario here is a world reset, than a post-American future.

bksenior··on Dear Spike Lee
It's actually smart. You are more likely to get press traction and a response crucifying an individual than a faceless company. Also, everyone is responsible here, "having people who handle it" is all too often an easy way to free everyone from responsibility.

"There are three sides to every story: Your side, my side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each differently."

I bet you drafted MJD. What a bum he has been.
bksenior··on So You Want To Be A Writer? That’s Mistake #1
No, professional mass market writers are entertainer. Not sure how else to say it.
bksenior··on NBA Superstar Chris Bosh: Here’s Why You Should Learn to Code
You are thinking in the wrong framework. Before sophisticated audible language, drawing and hand symbols were the norm. At the point it could easily been argued literacy was a luxury or niche item reserved for academics and what not. Coding is positioned to be the same, not being able to control machines fluently without needing a midldeman will both be expensive and socially crippling if technology continues the way it is.

Moral: If you dont have a back to the basket post game like Chris Bosh, learn to code basketball joke

bksenior··on So You Want To Be A Writer? That’s Mistake #1
They aren't writers they are entertainers.
bksenior··on James Burke predicted the future in 1973. Now he does it again
Came here to say this, but take it further. Power is a function of survival and reproduction odds improvement. It may be that something else begins to shift that balance, but that flaw will never go away. We are just animals.
bksenior··on Ask HN: Any Hackers Appreciate The Importance Food Has On Feeling Good?
1. We are doing ranges for calories. 2. We count each individual location once.
bksenior··on Ask HN: Any Hackers Appreciate The Importance Food Has On Feeling Good?
We cover about 81% of all restaurants restaurants which equates to low 90% of the top 500 restaurants in the major metros. So literally we dont cover ALL restaurants, but we cover enough where it kind of seems like magic. (Edit: Changed text to almost)
bksenior··on If You Want to Raise Prices, Tell a Better Story
Sorry for being crass, but this is naive. Your ability to process between the value of a product and the perceived value of a story is blurred at best and zero at worst.

bksenior··on Advice for ambitious 19 year olds
This is a faux contrarian opinion. If someone is asking Sam Altman what to do, it is far more likely than not, they define ambition as starting their own thing. If thats the case, learning start-up stuff is likely not going to happen at a place like Microsoft. So he says go somewhere that can educate you in building from scratch.

It's pretty clear he isnt knocking the old guard, but answering the question in the the way the person asking it was likely anticipating.

bksenior··on Soylent: Gruel today, gruel tomorrow
Youre bias is substantially more harmful and ignorant than anything in soylent. This may be snake oil with protein, but the idea that someone is challenging a very deeply ingrained accepted truth (humans need food) creates a process that leads scientific progress and promotes at least an opportunity for innovation.

Not to be harsh, but your diatribe is exactly the opposite of what HackerNews stands for. Your armchair quarterback position offers nothing

That said I am passing on this until there is way more information.

bksenior··on My girlfriend tries to explain my startup in 90 seconds
Fine. gimmick or not. Give the guy credit for creating a good launch narrative in a sea of "Check out my start-up" posts. This is clever marketing, the conversation doesn't have to go much further.
bksenior··on Why Redfin, Zillow, and Trulia Haven't Killed Off Real Estate Brokers

Well, when you police for taste, you eventually get burned by the subjectivity of the whole matter. This is the quintessential "you made your bed now sleep in it" example
bksenior··on Trying to sell my car with a bootstrapped website and an idea
I ran digital/social marketing for a major import car brand for two years up until Q4 of last year. We built something like this but, it was killed internally by an executive. It is a great idea and my studies say it will raise sales price on cars by 5-8% because of the "fear of losing out" principal.
bksenior··on Conflicting Assertions Over an Electric Car Test Drive
I applaud the NYT attempt to come out and acknowledge what happened and ask for a "fair fight" from both parties. This is much stronger than a lame PR statement. Also the links to Reddit conversations off-site are a great testament to just how much journalism has changed in the past decade. Can't wait to see who wins this heavyweight fight.

bksenior··on A note from Keith
Nope. The leverage was in his lack of reporting it, not the action of hiring a sig' other. The only thing that would serve as leverage would be emotional grief supposing that professional protocol was followed.
bksenior··on A note from Keith
This is wildly dogmatic and not really based in reason. The risks of a relationship are evident, but what about the upside? Imagine the chance to vet someone over time for cultural and professional fit for a role that they might excel in. When a company gets large enough where there is zero interaction day to day are there no possibilities that this might work? Setting aside a lack of disclosure, is the leverage so great that someone is a liability having a social context? It just seems like people are pretty black and white on this.
