bks··on Launch HN: Skillsync (YC W26) – AI chat sessions made portable across agents
I suspect its about the people not just the pitch. The team seems experienced and have shipped useful products. Good luck to them
bks··on Finger: the 1971 social network that never died
I was fingering Stacy L. from my account rohan.sdsu.edu to her accoun at Occidental college and got exactly the same outreach from Chris P. at SDSU where he politely asked me to "stop fingering Stacy". The admin from Occidental offered me a shell on their machine so i could just last her... Good times. Found my comment from 2024 on the same topic - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41907360
bks··on Linux boxes via SSH: suspended when disconected
What a brilliant billing and account interaction interface. I legitimately wanted to build something like this for a transactional SMS provider where it would all be provisioned, managed, configured on the CLI. Do you have any tips on how you built this out so elegantly?
bks··on Claude Pro and Max subscribers get 2x usage limits through New Year's Eve
I have been derelict in my CEO duties and have been building features in Claude Code the past few weeks and it's been amazing. I've given myself until December 31st to go down the developer path and these increased usage limits are going to be awesome.

I hope that there will be lots of new SHOWN HN projects that manifest because of these increased limits, and that we all get to vibe through the holiday season.

bks··on Most parked domains now serving malicious content
The m3aawg has a parked domain guide - https://www.m3aawg.org/sites/default/files/m3aawg_parked_dom...
bks··on Launch HN: Onyx (YC W24) – Open-source chat UI
I've been using Onyx (and Danswer before it) for over a year, and I'd push back on this. We have Freshdesk, Bookstack, Google Drive, YouTrack, and Slack all connected. It seamlessly answers questions like:

"What's Max's GitHub username?" "I need wire transfer instructions for an incoming wire"

We also index competitors' helpdesks and KB articles to track new features they're rolling out. Our tech support team uses it daily because Freshdesk's AI is terrible and their internal KB search is lackluster. Onyx actually finds things. The value isn't in being "one chat to rule them all" — it's in unified search across disparate systems with citations. That's not getting commoditized anytime soon. Keep up the good work, team.

bks··on Become unbannable from your email
Forwarding emails is problematic especially if your provider for the primary mx does not have great spam filtering and then you end up sending spam to your backup account.

It certainly does not get around the ...if your account gets banned maybe the forwards will still work... concept but in general something like https://github.com/joeyates/imap-backup to backup your email and then add them to a typical backup process with your other files works well.

bks··on Vendors that treat single sign-on as a luxury feature
Happy workos customer for at least 4 years. Thank you.
bks··on OpenSMTPD and Maildrop working in concert
Just an FYI, your site does not have a working SSL certificate and many may not want to click through.
bks··on Show HN: I built AI agents with CrewAI to automate my entire Gmail workflow
Why not archive vs. the destructive delete. There is a risk of misclassification to promotion and then 2 days later delete. Seems like a default aggressive stance.
bks··on My Beancount books are 95% automatic after 3 years (2024)
yes please
bks··on My Beancount books are 95% automatic after 3 years (2024)
Is there any solution for statement downloading, like many small businesses I have credit card statements, bank accounts that I need to provide to my accountant.

While my "books" are synced via Quickbooks, they (accountants) really seem to love having the PDF in hand. I just need the PDFs and they do not send them via email...

bks··on The Physicians Are Healing Themselves, with Ozempic

bks··on Launch HN: Regatta Storage (YC F24) – Turn S3 into a local-like, POSIX cloud FS
Similar to objectiveFS - we use this in production for email sync between multiple postfix servers and dovecot. Is this a supported use case?
bks··on Wazuh – Open-source security platform
So what SIEM do people suggest? AWS shop, EC2, VPC, Lamba, RDS
bks··on Overengineering a way to know if people are in my university's CS lab
I had finger running on login to `finger stacy` I was at SDSU on a very large SunOS system and she was at a private school and I assume that computer was a bit more limited.

`Finger Stacy` would run every minute and typically be running for 15 minutes max... that is until I moved into the dorms and my machine was online all the time.

A few weeks go by and I get an email from the SDSU admin requesting that I stop fingering stacy as it was bothering the other Sysadmin. I remarked with a grin that all I was trying to do was in fact try to `name of the command` and they promptly deleted the script from the account.. It still makes me smile as I write this.

bks··on Show HN: Gmail unsubscribe tool with bulk deletion and personal data removal
Looks useful. Been using this for years, find it very effective - https://github.com/labnol/unsubscribe-gmail
bks··on Openpilot – Operating system for robotics
I chose the Hyundai Ioniq 5 as my current car specifically because it’s compatible with OpenPilot. It’s been a total game-changer for my driving experience. Just like their tagline says, “make driving chill,” and for me, it truly delivers on that promise.
bks··on Launch HN: SSOReady (YC W24) – Making SAML SSO painless and open source
Sorry just read this in your repo "You can think of us as an open source alternative to products like Auth0 or WorkOS."
bks··on Launch HN: SSOReady (YC W24) – Making SAML SSO painless and open source
Is this a competitor to workos.com ? (we use them to connect customers to our apps)
bks··on Stalwart mail server (self-hosted all-in-one mail server) now as an admin webui
Handling lots of production email for hundreds of domains for the past 10 years on https://www.iredmail.org/
bks··on Show HN: DMARC Checker
Thank you - and would you be open to white labeling?
bks··on Show HN: DMARC Checker
Seems that this tool actually validates your email and checks its alignment vs. just checking to see if there is a dmarc record on the domain.
bks··on Show HN: DMARC Checker
Great tool, one bit of feedback on the log report. Perhaps you can highlight the passing line in the SPF record, I have about 100 of these "The ip4 mechanism does not match." and then a lot of "The include mechanism matches and produces a pass result."

Maybe you can highlight the passing statement? - https://app.screencast.com/Hu5ybB6K3fd9R

bks··on Crystal 1.11.0 Is Released
I have been running https://mailflowmonitoring.com for the past 6 years on Amber (A Crystal framework) it flawlessly manages the sending and tracking of round trip emails for tens of thousands of pings a day.
bks··on Authy is shutting down its desktop app
So what’s the alternative option here for a mobile and desktop 2fa?
bks··on A glitch in the SEO matrix
I cant speak for any site other than G2. We have multiple unpaid products that appear appropriately in their lists and quadrants. The question one has to ask themselves, just like in SEO "is my profile optimized" and try work out what their automations expect rather than paying for placement.
bks··on Ory Kratos v1.0 with passkeys, MFA and multi-region
Great looking project. Is this something that could replace https://workos.com ? - We have a number of customers that want to use their own authentication providers to access our applications. Would Ory provide such a bridge or are there any alternatives?
bks··on Tell HN: Nearly all of Evernote’s remaining staff has been laid off
Spent the last few days trying to find a hosted (paid) service that does PDF indexing. Check out https://notejoy.com/
