bitnasty··on Our muscles will atrophy as we climb the Kardashev Scale
I imagine that we don’t exist outside the simulation. There is no “waking up”. We exist in a computer’s memory and that’s it.

Maybe I’m being pedantic but bodybuilders don’t generally “lift insane weights” or do bursts of maximal effort. That sounds more like powerlifting. Bodybuilders prioritize gaining muscle size, which is not equivalent to gaining muscular strength.

bitnasty··on Don't Fuck with Scroll
I don’t think it’s fair to blame the problems on “trends in UX design.” It’s more the lack of UX design.
bitnasty··on Hacker in Snowflake extortions may be a U.S. soldier
Maybe he “can’t get caught” because he is state-sanctioned.

You think they only have one uniform?
bitnasty··on Strava's Big Changes Aim to Kill Off Apps
Maybe they’re prepping to sell to Elon. Man needs his KOMs.
bitnasty··on The myth that you can’t build interactive web apps except as single page app
Not sure if this counts as “going back” but I have been managing a legacy project that is built like this for the past year or two. I hated it at first, but now I’m starting to appreciate it. My approach is to try to put as much as possible in php, but for parts of the page that are going to be manipulated by js/jquery, just have php pass the data as json and build that portion of the dom on the front end.
bitnasty··on Trump wins presidency for second time
Who cares? It’s not like he can be re-elected again. This term will be about maximizing the grift and avoiding justice.

bitnasty··on How long til we're all on Ozempic?
Actually not true. All addicts develop lifestyles around their addictions. Alcoholics often have many social connections that involve alcohol, what they do for fun involves alcohol, etc. A successful recovery typically involves changing this lifestyle to make the problem behaviors easier to avoid.

NORAD giving it a UAP designator is not a free license to fill in the (numerous) blanks with whatever you want.
bitnasty··on TikTok is 'digital nicotine' meant to hook kids, AGs fume in new suits
Seems like you must not have kids in this age range.
bitnasty··on TikTok is 'digital nicotine' meant to hook kids, AGs fume in new suits
It’s an analogy.

bitnasty··on Remember That DNA You Gave 23andMe?
I assume anytime a company says they will delete my data that they will just remove the ability for me to access it.

That may be true, but it doesn’t unkill the victims.

bitnasty··on Human drivers keep rear-ending Waymos
How can you simultaneously check all the mirrors at the same time while also not looking away from the front?
bitnasty··on Have ‘hobby’ apps become the new social networks?
“Hobby apps” are social networks. Just because some social networks try for mass appeal with generic features like microblogs and photos doesn’t mean that other social networks with very specific features like GPS logging of bike rides are not.
bitnasty··on Artificial Intelligence Cheapens the Artistic Imagination (2023)
The problem is that AI needs good training data to work well. However, everyone knows that training AI on AI generated content has poor results. Therefore, the more market share AI generated art commands, the worse it will perform. It is inherently non-sustainable.
bitnasty··on LinkedIn's Broken Automation Took Down My Company's Page Without Warning
This highlights the perils of using a free platform for business purposes. They owe you nothing and can change how things run/policies overnight and without warning. Luckily in this case, LinkedIn only brought in about 4% of their clients, but some businesses are fully reliant on free services like Facebook.
bitnasty··on In Leak, Facebook Partner Brags About Listening to Your Phone's Microphone to S
It’s not about mobile devices, but smart tvs and cable boxes.
bitnasty··on The vagus nerve orchestrates the mind-body connection
My thought is the exact opposite. AI can handle predictable situations fine, but the 20% of situations which are unpredictable require a general intelligence that can understand context that current AI technology (or possibly any AI technology) just doesn’t possess. There will always be situations that training doesn’t cover.
