bitnasty··on Why are Humans used as Batteries (a power source) in the Matrix? (2017)
It’s also possible that Morpheus doesn’t know what he’s talking about. How could he?
bitnasty··on Arrest of Pavel Durov, Telegram CEO, charges of terrorism, fraud, child porn
Who would watch an interview being held by a crazy person and take it at face value? Anyone with half a brain would avoid watching or listening to Tucker Carlson like the plague.
bitnasty··on DOJ may want to break up Google
Meta only wishes they were impactful enough to be broken up. Their products aren’t really that important and it’s really easy to avoid them. If all of Meta’s products disappeared they would be replaced in a day.

It’s a little harder to avoid Google or Amazon or Apple in one’s everyday life. If one of these companies disappeared, it would take some time to fill that hole in the market.

bitnasty··on DOJ may want to break up Google
Google search sucks now anyway. It’s been getting progressively worse in the past few years since they have decided that selling ads is more important than relevant search results, and don’t even get me started on the AI dribble they’ve been pushing. If they can’t keep up in a fair market then they deserve to fail just like everyone else.
bitnasty··on New doctoral thesis proposes Buckminster Fuller was a 'charlatan'
Why do you say Musk is a genius? Because he has purchased large, sexy tech companies?
bitnasty··on Big Tech groups say their $100B AI spending spree is just beginning
Not sure the comparison is justified. Sure, AI is cool, hot tech, but the internet enables connection between virtually every single human alive. Completely different scale of influence.
bitnasty··on Is a Universal Basic Income System Even Possible?
The argument for UBI is that there will, one day, not be nearly enough work available for the workforce. It’s not about people not wanting to work, but that they can’t.
bitnasty··on Is a Universal Basic Income System Even Possible?
> As AI produces most of the world’s basic goods and services, people will be freed up to spend more time with people they care about, care for people, appreciate art and nature, or work toward social good

No, it won’t, and no, they won’t. I’m sure this view helps Sam sleep at night but based on all of human history, the rich and powerful will use AI to suck as much life out of the poor and powerless as possible.

bitnasty··on Trump injured but ‘fine’ after attempted assassination at rally
Are you forgetting what happened after the 2020 election? This “both sides” shit is a bunch of fucking baloney.
bitnasty··on Trump injured but ‘fine’ after attempted assassination at rally
Trump tried to cling to power once after losing a fair election. You don’t think he’ll try again?
bitnasty··on Trump injured but ‘fine’ after attempted assassination at rally
Trump literally tried to stop the peaceful transfer of power after losing a fair election. He will likely do this again. If he succeeds, American democracy is toast.
bitnasty··on Trump injured but ‘fine’ after attempted assassination at rally
Or a future where the loser doesn’t desperately cling to power and incite violence to try to stop the peaceful transfer of power.
bitnasty··on Google's Gemini AI caught scanning Google Drive PDF files without permission
Just because “the cloud” is someone else’s computer doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
bitnasty··on YouTube lets you request removal of AI content that simulates your face or voice
Like the current system, this one is not going to help the average user at all. This is for people (or other entities) with money and power.
bitnasty··on YouTube lets you request removal of AI content that simulates your face or voice
YouTube/Google is NOT going to pay anyone to do verifications like you described.
bitnasty··on Ask HN: Why are PWA user install stats so hard to find?
I’m a little confused. Most people are talking about PWAs as though adding a website shortcut to your Home Screen is a PWA. When I search for what a PWA is on Google, it says they can be placed in the app stores. So are they in the app stores or do users have to do the shortcut thing?
bitnasty··on A.I. Has Become a Technology of Faith
I agree with most of your post, except the last bit. AI replacing human workers is not black and white. AI will not replace all human artists, for example, but with AI, artists are needed less often. Whether this is good or bad, I don’t know.
bitnasty··on We know why some people got Covid while others didn't
Interesting but n=16 is a weak ass study
bitnasty··on Ask HN: Is Firefox better than Chrome when it comes to user security?
Larger teams actually mean slower changes, and more likelihood that the code is not great.

Integrations for Google accounts can be seen as a privacy violation. Google doesn’t need to know what other services I am using.

Google’s password manager still has my passwords saved after disabling the feature AND manually “deleting” each one individually. Do not trust them with your passwords.

bitnasty··on Spotify: Droppin' Some Fake Beats
Given the low ratio of “making it” to “wanting to make it” I would assume that there are many people who DO actually take out loans.
bitnasty··on The flip-flop on whether alcohol is good for you (2023)
In 50 years, the AI will tell us that looking at screens all day is actually good for you.
bitnasty··on Replit used legal threats to kill my open-source project (2021)
That’s like saying I can’t write my own hobby OS because I used to work for Microsoft.
bitnasty··on Replit used legal threats to kill my open-source project (2021)
If NDAs were breached, that DEFINITELY would have been brought up in all of this.
bitnasty··on Compromised Visions Are Superior
Then there should be many millennials who love the prequels but sadly I know of zero.
bitnasty··on Parable of the Sofa
I think the point is that McDonald’s is literally all over the world, but that doesn’t mean the food is consistent.
bitnasty··on The Case Against Gmail (2020)
There ARE ads in gmail
bitnasty··on Man scammed after AI told him fake Facebook customer support number was real
This is the real danger of AI, forget the “singularity” or any of that sci-fi crap. AI is going to destroy the average human’s already suffering reasoning ability.
bitnasty··on The Pumpkin Eclipse
Why would someone build a botnet this complex then brick it?
bitnasty··on Show HN: I made a free app to calibrate your turntable by simply playing a song
NTSC is 29.97 fps and PAL is 25. That’s almost 20%!
bitnasty··on Cloudflare took down our website
Gambling is shady to begin with. It’s easy to say that all businesses only care about money, but gambling is pure greed, from both the customer’s and proprietor’s perspectives. Sure, there is greed in medical but gambling is ONLY greed.
