bitigchi··on Commodore 64 Guides
An invaluable action for preserving heritage.
bitigchi··on Make Linux look like Windows 95
It's possible to disable toolbars and use a menu-bar/shortcut oriented workflow like in the Classic Mac OS.
bitigchi··on A new wave of Linux applications
Yet they work in a totally different manner (not in the better sense).
bitigchi··on The Life of MS-DOS
Why not contribute to FreeDOS?
bitigchi··on LibreOffice 7.3
Pushing a new rendering engine without extensively testing it on a new OS release is simply nuts.
bitigchi··on LibreOffice 7.3
Did you open a bug report with the said document? You might never know, the corner case with your specific document might be fixed by a willing developer.
bitigchi··on LibreOffice 7.3
Nice. Seems like it includes lots of improvements for OOXML compatibility.
bitigchi··on Swift and C++ interoperability workgroup announcement
Thanks for all the work! When do you think it would be production ready?
bitigchi··on Framework Raises $18M Series A
I wish they'd allow configuring the keyboard layout, at least for most spoken languages of the world.
bitigchi··on How FreeDOS Grew Up and Became a Modern DOS (2021)
You can open a bug report or post your findings to the mailing list.
bitigchi··on Show HN: Hacker XP – Hacker News styled as a Windows XP Outlook email client
Reminded me of how Safari for Windows actually had a native Windows UI.
bitigchi··on Framework vs. Apple
I felt sorry for the laptop. I cannot imagine the working conditions it had to suffer. It's probably a dust haven inside, and the keyboard has never been cleaned once.
bitigchi··on Notepad++ v8.2 Released
There is no other third party text editor more efficient and lightweight than Notepad++ on Windows. I only use Notepad++ on Windows, to save my CPU cycles and RAM.
bitigchi··on The story behind OS X’s Unix compliant certification
It's pleasant to hear that lots of FOSS software benefited from this effort.
bitigchi··on Kakoune Code Editor
I'd like to try, but it does not support translations. I prefer using software only in my native language.
bitigchi··on Switching from macOS to Pop_OS
This makes it sound like only Pop_OS! has the applications listed for it and they are not available for macOS.

It's also funny that macOS has application installs sorted and the Pop_OS side starts listing paths. :))

bitigchi··on Rich: A Python library for rich text and formatting in the terminal
I am not sure if it's only me, but as time passes I find myself using more and more simple Terminal stuff. No fancy air/earth lines, no fancy formatting, no fancy ligatures or typefaces.
bitigchi··on Vim9 Script Feature-Complete
When did he reject? To my knowledge, he didn’t reject anything.
bitigchi··on Vim9 Script Feature-Complete
Those patches were broken to begin with when submitted to Vim, and never got fixed until NeoVim was forked out of the blue. People generally don’t know the details of this, and blindly blame Bram.
bitigchi··on Vim9 Script Feature-Complete
I think he does not like to go with the flow, but instead implement things the way he thinks best suited and best performant with Vim. I don't think he cares about NeoVim.
bitigchi··on Vim9 Script Feature-Complete
It was the result of a poll:

1 - https://groups.google.com/g/vim_dev/c/__gARXMigYE/m/iskHVwgU...

2 - https://github.com/vim/vim/issues/3573

bitigchi··on My progress in porting Wine
No graphics acceleration yet though.
bitigchi··on My progress in porting Wine
2022 seems like it will be a great year for Haiku:

- They have a (one) full-time developer working on the general stability of the system and better hardware and general driver support (and many more things)

- X512 still tackling graphics acceleration, compositing, multi-monitor support and occasional cool stuff like this

- ARM/ARM64 port seeing active commits

- Much better Intel graphics hardware support merged already

- QtWebEngine already ported and opening the way for working web browsers

- Native WebKit port preparing for upstreaming and WebPositive again seeing fixes after a long time

If the project had better financials, it would greatly help securing the project's continuous development.

bitigchi··on Tokyo police lose 2 floppy disks containing info on public housing applicants
Oh Japan, never change.
bitigchi··on Don't Fuck with Big Sugar
Sounds like a scene from Parks & Rec.
bitigchi··on Using BeOS on a Power Mac (2001)
Haiku is still alive, no need to look for other things in other OSs. :)
bitigchi··on Apple to Apple Comparison: M1 Max vs. Intel
Watch the latest Linus Tech Tips video about this.
bitigchi··on SpeedCrunch
Their macOS download link is broken. Oh well.
bitigchi··on (mac)ostalgia – how Spotify, Slack, Chrome, Figma could look on Mac OS 9
По-моему это только в Monterey. У меня ещё Big Sur -- но буду знать!
bitigchi··on (mac)ostalgia – how Spotify, Slack, Chrome, Figma could look on Mac OS 9
Where is it? Can you add a screenshot?
