birdman3131··on Linux on the Behringer X32 [video]
Posted the youtube link as it goes through a lot of the work needed to get this working.

https://github.com/xn--nding-jua/OpenX32 is the github for those not wanting a video.

birdman3131··on Show HN: Undetectag, track stolen items with AirTag
That does not read as "something that Apple considers bad" but rather "something that Apple COULD consider bad"
birdman3131··on Mozilla Firefox – Official GitHub repo
I have never noticed that and am rarely logged in.
birdman3131··on Show HN: I made a web-based, free alternative to Screen Studio
So unless I am missing something this seems much less useful than windows builtin screen recorder. Any mouse movement causes it to zoom in and cut off large portions of the screen and I don't see a way to prevent this. (I can see the occasional use case but the fact that there appears no way to turn it off is a deal breaker.)

One potential useful (And I have no clue how hard to implement) thing I could see implementing would be the ability to mask out private details and have the mask follow the details as the screen is scrolled. It feels like something an LLM/AI could do.

birdman3131··on Cursor IDE support hallucinates lockout policy, causes user cancellations
Tinfoil hat me says that it was a policy change that they are blaming on an "AI Support Agent" and hoping nobody pokes too much behind the curtain.

Note that I have absolutely no knowledge or reason to believe this other than general distrust of companies.

birdman3131··on Google to buy Wiz for $32B
Shelly does not require an app at all. Initial setup can be done via the WIFI AP it generates by default. Cloud is a checkbox in the app/web interface.

birdman3131··on Imapsync
Less migrating and more syncing it to an mxroute server so I can get some space back.

The one caveat about this. Gmail has a ~2gb/day limit on transfers so it can take a while.

birdman3131··on Imapsync
https://imapsync.lamiral.info/dist/ for those wanting to download it. They hide it these days trying to force you to buy it.
birdman3131··on Backblaze seemingly does not support files greater than 1 TB
You have never played Ark I take it. I am sitting at ~700gb between Ark: Survival Evolved and Survival Ascended.
birdman3131··on Starship Flight 7
I remember being woken up by the thunder from Columbia.

Lost it over the years but I used to have a photo of about 20 vans of people parked on our property doing the search for debris. Don't think they found any on our land but there was a 3 ft chunk about 5 miles down the road.

birdman3131··on Six day and IP address certificate options in 2025
Digital ocean can be used as name servers without paying and they have an API. No clue how compatible.
birdman3131··on Show HN: Simple Docker Hosting
This reminds me a lot of caprover.
birdman3131··on IP addresses through 2024
The brown bar in the middle of a tiny column of text is very aggravating to read.
birdman3131··on Xiaomi has provided official support for Home Assistant
I am ok with devices that default to 2 but can be converted to 3.

Don't recall if Shelly's default to 2 or 3 but I like that you can flash em to tasmota for a gaurenteed 3.

birdman3131··on ElasticSearch and many other repos are gone
https://web.archive.org/web/20241009043953/https://github.co... And for those like me who don't pay attention it had 69k stars earlier in the month.
birdman3131··on 'Nearly unusable': Calif. police majorly push back on Tesla cop cars
At no point are they saying tesla's are bad. Just that they are not good for what police need them to do.

I have no connection to police but I do own a 2015 ford Police Interceptor Utility (Essentially an explorer.)

There are several features that are useful to police.

Manual headlights. (Keep debating spending the ~$50-70 to upgrade to auto headlights.) The lights and horn do not trigger when you lock the car with the remote. Nor do lights come on when you open the door. (All of these are features to prevent drawing attention when you are idling on the side of the road.)

Fairly tall sidewalls. I can go over a curb and not have any issue. The suspension is the best of any car / truck I have owned.

It is rated for a 75MPH impact from the rear. (Fun fact. The full size spare tire is required to be in place to keep the rating.

I have 4 switches on the steering wheel for accessories. (I assume stuff like lights and sirens.)

There are some others like being able to disconnect the door locks from the back doors although mine were set to normal car when I got it.

birdman3131··on Google threatened with being broken up by US
Cross country? You mean a 15 minute drive away. Many places local was only that town and maybe another town under 5 miles away.
birdman3131··on Don't build your castle in other people's kingdoms (2021)
Interesting article but it only talks about 1 half of the coin. For the sort of stuff they are talking about you can't get near the visibility and ease of use building it yourself.

You will see a fraction of the traffic that somebody doing the same thing on those platforms will see.

They try to hand wave it with build a tower and bring them back to your site but that rarely works well.

I need to create an account to use your site has a significantly higher bar than I hit subscribe to see your next video in my feed.

birdman3131··on How the iPhone 16's electrically-released adhesive works
Because what is in a 9 volt is 6 AAAA batteries. They are smaller than even an AAA battery. Only thing I know that uses them is some of the surface drawing pens and the like.

That said if you need 9 volts ask a church. I know we would gladly hand you a box of half full ones as you have to pull them out of the wireless mics before they die. And older Shure mics are 9 volt.

birdman3131··on Ask HN: What email service(s) do you use for your side projects?
+1 for mxroute. Works great for anything but spam or marketing email. Those get a quick ban and a downgrade from valued customer to scum of the earth.
birdman3131··on Is Tor still safe to use?
To quote the article. " To the best of our knowledge, the attacks happened between 2019-2021." and " This protection exists in Ricochet-Refresh, a maintained fork of the long-retired project Ricochet, since version 3.0.12 released in June of 2022."

While it has been fixed for years it was not a case of using old software from what I am reading.

birdman3131··on How to mail an SD card with gummy glue
I would look at toploader sleeves from the collectible card scene. Thin enough to not trip the 1/4" envelope rule.
birdman3131··on Show HN: Click counter using iPhone volume buttons
That would suck for any kindle reader people. One of the best features is volume to switch pages.
birdman3131··on Ente Auth: open-source Authy alternative for 2FA
Just because your in the Apple ecosystem does not mean your not outside it as well and want the crossplatform side.
birdman3131··on Firefox 3rd Party Installer Campaign – Mozilla Community Portal
How does that differ from chocolaty?

And for that matter Action1 is likely better if I am doing this on a regular basis.

birdman3131··on Firefox 3rd Party Installer Campaign – Mozilla Community Portal
Ive been using a third party installer for probably 15 years.

It is very hard to beat ninite.com for installing everything at once on a new pc.

birdman3131··on Ask HN: Privacy Friendly Smart Phone?
3gb ram is unacceptable in any phone.
birdman3131··on Adobe users are outraged over vague new policy's AI implications
I was required to enter my password the last time I install black magic software on mac.
birdman3131··on The American West is figuring out how to keep cool
Bikes are not great. Ebikes might be able to keep up with traffic but not legally. No bike lanes mean your in traffic with posted speeds of 35-40 MPH and actual speeds of 40-48 MPH.

Not to say I disagree with bikes. Ive got all the parts for an ebike just need to mount them. But its not really viable transport around here if you add in the dangers.
