bigodbiel··on U.S. pauses all military aid to Ukraine
Amazingly the USSR was more reliable than Putin's russia, whatever that is today.
bigodbiel··on The NIH is being slashed and burned, not "reformed"
Do you think Trump wants to copy China? He is emulating Russia, where the oligarchs rule over the plebs and the Tsar rules over them all. Meanwhile, most homes lack plumbing, but the Capital is first rate.

bigodbiel··on Trump wins presidency for second time
For the world the consequences will be horrible
bigodbiel··on Trump wins presidency for second time
It worked. Putin now is on top. And Europe must prepare. America now will be hostile.
bigodbiel··on Trump wins presidency for second time
There is no positive for Europe. Only bad to worse. Globalization is dead. In Africa hunger and mass migration to Europe. Europe needs to militarize: Defense budget >5%, deportations, conscription, nukes and a fully functional independent army against expansionist Russia who now will have Trump's acquiesence. America must be seen as possible enemy. I am not being hyperbolic. It's parabellum.

America joined the ranks of Russia and China. If you think Democracy isn't threatened, then you believe it never existed
bigodbiel··on Trump wins presidency for second time
I don't think it mattered much. It was the will of most Americans to join the Russians.

Putin, Xi, the New Totalitarian World Order: Won A very dark chapter in human history is about to start and all from "our" own free will.
bigodbiel··on Rutube added import YouTube video functionality [Russian lang]

Like the idea, but tangible arts like paintings or live tours are scarce, unlike digital media. So for these money should be going directly to the organizer (artist, sculpture, troupe, etc). For non-tangible mediums, an endowment would make sense (despite the bickering). I can see an incentive for artists to then produce tangible arts for the monetary rewards, but also our industry already is filled with negative incentives and bickering. Something new would be nice.

thank you, that was really funny

Technically it is match manipulation by most association regulations, even if not for financial gains. But it has always been part of the meta-game in such competitions, though this case was too extreme!

bigodbiel··on 2022 letter on life in China
As an entrepeneur, I left Russia last year, later than I should have, sooner than I could have. I also have a child and that was not the place I would want any child to grow up in, even if homeschooled (we tried). It's hard at first, but doable, new friends, networks, of course resentment/nostalgia, but part of being a responsible human being looking after another.

As for changing China from within, I can empathize fully [1].

bigodbiel··on Plastic-based fuels may present an “unreasonable risk” to human health
Plastic based fuels sounds like petro fuel with extra steps! As for the plastic waste, instead of dumping it into the ocean, we blow it into the atmosphere.

bigodbiel··on Ask HN: Comment here about whatever you're passionate about at the moment

bigodbiel··on Why are so many adults acting just like children?
Very true, childish behavior, specially by decision makers, is the bane of society (always has been). Cosplaying by adults should be the least of our worries, and besides it isn't even a recent phenonema (at least not for men): carnival, secret cults, religious ceremonies.
bigodbiel··on President Putin has announced a partial mobilization in Russia
Soviet Russia after its collapse had a chance to integrate itself to the west. Even if neoliberal policies were attrocious (and they weren't exclusive to Russia, but to the whole developing world) during the 90's, its integration to the global division of labor is what allowed them to re-emerge and have rising standards of living, much higher than during Soviet times.

But they still want revanchism and imperialism in the 21st c.?

African continent is rich in natural resources, meanwhile Taiwan is just a volcanic island that produces 90% of the world's CPUs. The same applies to Russia.
bigodbiel··on Covid: Summary of lab-origin hypothesis
I disagree, I hope that lableak confirmation will push for a reassessment on the risk reward ratios for research. It may slow down scientific process, but we can now see that the dangers, if catastrophic enough, even if minimal, may not warrant it.
bigodbiel··on Japan wants young people to drink more alcohol
If Abe’s “Have More Sex” appeals didn’t work, maybe “Have More Drunk Sex” will.
bigodbiel··on U.S. annual inflation rate drops to 8.5%
Russian foreign reserve assets are liquid, nationalized means of production for goods outside their respective chain of production isn’t and of dubious value (eg car manufacturing).
bigodbiel··on Air Support in a Backpack: The Switchblade
The current conflict hasn't seen the best employment of loitering munitions, from both sides actually. Maybe as a function of the current paradigm (artillery duel), the low yield explosive of the S 300 fielded, or lack of experienced fixed wing drone operators, in comparison with multi-rotor drones, which are retrievable with much longer flight times.

Tube launched loitering munitions are the future nonetheless and will replace the mortar and multi rotor drones, once all the issues have been figured out.
